MTG Arena - New Standard Decks and Mythic Gameplay! Come join!
Side job is being a partner in big law in Los Angeles. Now using my lawyer logic to find the BEST card synergies in MTG Standard that everyone else missed!
Also, “Spawn of Mayhem” is my favorite MTG card ever printed :). Hoping for a Standard reprint!
Haha me too bro, I have been crushing with your rakdos skeles build but getting bored a bit and need something new. Debating this golgari build or dimir toxic.
I like the deck mike but I think it does a lot better with 4 overlords of the balemurk instead of the vehicle, while it worked okay, any time you draw 2 or more of them its very clunky, I find it better to just have 4 overlords and a bronco or two
For sure Black overlord is almost always great! Likely worth considering the add if you have! I have a Mono Green coming soon where I just use 2 of the artifact vehicle thing to avoid that issue. Although I didn’t have that issue much in this deck since we have bunch of small creatures to crew it :)
For some reason, and it’s probably my flaw, but I can never pilot mill yourself decks very well. I feel like I am shooting my foot every time I mill away something I need.
You gotta just indiscriminately mill yourself. Don’t worry if you mill something good, the odds of the top card being what you need are exactly the same if you mill or don’t. Milling is just an extra resource to always be used :)
at least with mono red every game we know if they win in 3 turns or not. whats the best counter towards these control decks? specially the ones that exile everything
It hurts when BO1 gets so stratified like that. Healthy midrange is needed for sure. Good news is the 2 mana Vehicle and the 5 mana worm in this deck help a lot in the control matchups :)
Hyper Aggro and a lot of 1 for 1 removal not being great anymore because mono red can make multiple more creatures if you kill their first creature or any of the enchantment decks putting ward two on things has forced more board wipes to be in the environment. Edit: Sunfall to board wipe on turn 5 is usually too slow now anyway. Lockdown is an MVP though.
Amazing deck! I did some swapping for Enduring Curiosity to get some card advantage in which has been working wonders for me :)) Thanks for the awesome build!
Really fun deck mostly losses so far but havent played alot. Is there any particular strategy that is important with this deck and why ichor of all 1 drops, is the lifelink so crucial? best regards
Probably more of a fun one than top top tier, but I have positive win rate with it (noting I made it so have the strategies largely nailed down haha). Ichor is good for the (1) lifelink you can buff with the combat trick, and (2) you can discard it and play it back. But more importantly, it is a double sacrifice trigger to play your tricks on :)
@@MythicMichael I came across a game where I used it to take out a rotpriest and didn't get a poison counter. I'm thinking because nowhere to run is an enchantment/permanent and doesn't target the priest until it's on the battlefield so doesn't trigger his ability from spells
Fun Deck! Very clever. I know it was off the cuff, but I do think you're take on Monstrous Emergence being a trash card is totally wrong. Sure it is Sorcery speed, but the fact that you can reveal a creature card from your hand: 1.) Makes it playable on turn 2 vs mono red without needing a creature on the field 2.) Solves the "card disadvantage blowout" when black or blue swipes your target "swinging" creature from the field fizzling your spell that most green decks suffer from
Thanks!!! Hard disagree. First off, in that deck it had blue and one mana bounce is infinitely better vs red. Or even the whale thing on defense. And if you are relying on 2 mana sorcery vs red Leyline with no creatures on battlefield, you are already dead I think. The one mana fight or bite spells (especially since green has solid one drops including the 3/3 delirium guy) are the way for green. The one mana clobber spell helps you not get blown out since can tap two creatures also. Not saying green alone has any amazing answers to red Leyline (especially if they are on play), so splashing other color often best :)
during Bloomburrow it was terrible, now with these mythics its good again.also during dinosaur era it was amazing. for people who dont have 4 copies of cards - try lord skitter (free tokens+grave removal), tarrian journal(repeatable sacrifice+casting from grave), vraan , braids, rakdos the muscle, invasion of azgol, harried spearguard, archfiend of the dross, jasper flint. there is many alternatives, only stable cards are urabrask forge , furnace reins, callous sell-sword.
Didn't get to play your Heartbreaker v2 but finally got into the fun with this one and it's a banger! Just won a match where opponent slammed their rottenmouth viper on the board on turn 3 and bailed out when I stole it and attacked with it to their face. 🤣 Like you said, maybe not most efficient on the ladder but it sure is fun and unexpected. 😁 Thanks yet again for an original deck. I did add a couple of the sacrifice a creature to exile, will need to see how it works.
Obviously the forge is amazing in this deck, but it's also pretty expensive. Are there any other red, black, or colorless token generators that could take it's place if you wanted to make a budget version?
There used to be that vampire spell which I miss haha. Could always just switch in that one mana red haste artifact toy guy that let’s play play your top card when he dies :). Or the one mana red haste human that makes a rat when he dies (for more sacrifice triggers)!
@@MythicMichael I was thinking more along the lines of something that would make a token every turn. I did some digging and found 3 things with the same CMC as the forge that can do it. Lord Skitter, Sewer King; Lagomos, Hand of Hatred, and Squee, Dubious Monarch. I also found Defiled Crypt//Cadaver Lab. Slightly higher CMC on the side that makes tokens, but you do remove cards from your own graveyard often. You can also use Ashnod's to target your own graveyard. Plus you also get the other side of the room to bring back something you normally can't, like your sellsword.
@@MythicMichael I actually just realized that mox was displaying the forges as $10 each, but tcgplayer is selling them for like $4. So they aren't nearly as expensive as I thought! Still nice to know the other options!
Can't wait to try this absolute HEARTBREAKER!!! P.s. the new rare lands are (with rare exceptions) better than basic lands, which may be a minor improvement to the deck :)
Thanks!!!! I was thinking of that Leyline for Skellys or Rats, but there are probably enough good Skellys and rats by themselves, and would be super risky since you only hit Leyline like 40 percent in opening hand. But worth some testing to see if can pull it off :)
Excited to play this. I don't have the wilds for Bloodletter, so I am going to throw in 2 Gisa, the hellraiser in their place. Skeletons and zombies get +1/+1 and menace, plus the token crime trigger might work nicely.
Oh by the way, the 327 "your go"s a game by mono red players are the worst. Im so glad you made fun of that dude. It nade me endlessly happy😂 also i think if youre caught rooing you should either be forced to play only other ropers for a month or immediately get sent back to bronze 4. Its just the worst.
Damn mike and i thought i was cool playing the new one blue pip spell to make obe creature unblockable until the end of turn with tiny bones and slasher, but it doesnt change the order which damage is done. I thibk the whirrling strike might be better.
If you were to sideboard ? I’m thinking Liliana ? Fell ? Duress ? Also why do you use disfigure rather than fell ? I find that I’m confronted by enormous creatures where -2/-2 doesn’t do much 😢
Sound like good starts! Well the good news is the death touch (and whirling trick) get through the biggest creatures here :). The reason for Disfigure is to have one drop removal that hits Mono Red. But can always swap it out in BO3 if not playing them!
That won’t work unfortunately. You need deathtouch, trample, AND FIRST STRIKE for this to work. Otherwise it just can be blocked by big or multiple creatures still. And you don’t get the better math from first strike (it halves their life BEFORE your other creatures hit) :)
