This 1994 production is still a high-water mark for productions of this ballet, even though I could live w/o the sets. Anthony Dowell is without peer as Carabosse, though Monica Mason was awesome too. What's more divine than Act 2 of The Sleeping Beauty? (ans: nothing)
@@ci7446 Benazir is the sister of England Cricketer Nasser Hussain. Viviana had to take over from Darcey Bussell as she was injured during this production. Sadly the RB lost Viviana as she fell out with them and got fed up of playing second fiddle to Darcey. Both brilliant dancers but quite different. Now both coach the RB and I think the rivalry eventually calmed down.
@@ReneMicheo thank you, he was a teacher I will never forget at CDT the dance hall in Clifton, where he guest taught....what a great dancer with a great outgoing personality.

THE ABT SHOULD LEARN TO RIVIVE BEAUTIFUL ROMANTIC BALLETS. RODOLFO VIQUEZ
Thank you for sharing. This is really interesting for Offenbach lovers and I am happy to see something about this unique and great Offenbach ballet. I must point out that this is a reworked version in 3 acts instead of 2 and 4 scenes. The music is also largely reworked by Lanchberry with cuts, numbers in different order, re orchestration, re harmonisation and new music from Lanchberry. I think this is important to mention to identify what this version is :-) Plot is also changed. Hamza, the bad Fairy, being less ridiculous in the original. Farfalla ends up with the Prince instead of Patimate. And the last scene seen in this version is set to music to celebrate the wedding of Farfalla with Prince as an apotheosis. Anyway, choregraphy is interesting. Costumes are great. Thank you again for sharing. Wish to see Caracalla version reconstructed from original material by Pierre Lacotte on which is also based a version from Russian ballet. Can someone share this?
Is this the Terme di Caracalla in Rome? I used to go there for operas? Yes. We must have the original. Composers like Offenbach, Minkus and Messager needed no "help" from a ballet conductor: Lanchbery. He wouldn't give me his sources for "Beatrix Potter". He told me in a letter he'd changed them too much. The Jacques Offenbach Society.
