Thank you so much for an easy to follow tutorial. Just a question. If I want to use DOH for example, then I wouldn't put the localhost:5353 address on upstream DNS right? Thanks!
12:25 Brilliant!!! I didn't know about transparency laws requiring the disclosure of private certs. For me, that's a deal breaker for my (future) homelab.
too bad 4in6 won't work if you only have v4 via CGNAT :/ ..funny it has bogota (the broker) but i have yet to see a real v4 or a v6 in colombia.. tried a year ago
It says a lot when a tech-related video is still relevant 3+ years later. I still come back to your videos to set up VLANs, DSA, and so on. You are a natural teacher.
great video quality, great content, great tool and of course great explanation. I have downloaded the XCA software on my windows 10. I have a lil challenge: I am working with vs code and have accessed my server via it. I have also created my CA with XCA. the challenge i have now is copying my CA to the server just like you did. Any guide?
Great video! Could you please shortly reply to this question: Which Internet > Type of Connection > IPv6 Connectivity have you enabled in your FRITZ!Box?
The moment then noob (me ofc) trying o understand bunch of information very fast (for me ofc). Many thanks for going into logic of your actions instead of "click like me" - that helps to understand what actually going on. At least now i know a little about vlan building possibilities/reason of tagging/etc. Many thanks, i like your way of teaching (its hard one, but really working way).
I heard this guy bought a bunch of routers without telling his wife and got divorced. He's now homeless and living in a fortress of solitude made of unsold routers. Who knew that a love for tech could build walls, both metaphorically and literally? But hey, on the bright side, he has the best Wi-Fi signal of any cardboard box in the city, and he's now the go-to guy for all the local squirrels who need to check their nut stock portfolios.
Thanks for the great video. I am still unclear who does the VLAN tagging. You say several VLANs can exist on 1 physical cable. Lets say I have 1 cable with 3 PCs who should not see each other. The cable goies into a OWRT device (e.g. a Raspberry Pi), how can I create one VLAN for each PC if they are all on 1 cable?
I mean is there NO POSSIBLE way to have two (or more) different "lan" subnets when your ISP only gives you a /64 prefix? For example, could I do the whole relay thing for my lan interface/subnet and then for a guest interface us the ULA addresses with a NAT rule to then MASQUERADE all the guest ULA addresses to the wan ipv6? I am using AT&T Switched Ethernet Service and they gave me a static ipv4 as well as a ipv6 address along with a gateway for each and a /64 prefix. Its wild that a business focused ISP service that cost at a bare minimum $600/mo can't manage to give out anything more than a /64
Just don't do that. VM's are just so much better for isolation, backup and migration. And if you are creating the Docker LXC-Container on a ZFS filesystem, you have to create a ext4-Disk on top of that for /var/lib/docker as a workaround. Best practice is to not even create a single LXC container and just rely on VM's and Docker-containers.
I am still completely lost. haha. I just can't seem to figure this VLAN thing. I have the GL-MT6000. I have tried both OEM Openwrt and the standard version. I just want to have a IOT VLAN which is both, some wifi devices and some Ethernet cabled, How to I tell the devices to use the VLAN's DHCP? Do I static IP them? If I make one of the GL-MT6000 ports a VLAN does every device on that port have to be in the IOT VLAN? I have some devices I do not want on the IOT like my computer equipment and computers. I pretty much have a few smart devices and tvs I want to put in their own VLAN.. I feel like this shouldn't be this hard! Well, if you are still listening, thank you so much! -j
Hi, is it ok that IP changes when WiFi Roaming occurs from Router to DumbAP and vice versa? I just noticed that on my mobile but also I do have VLANs and wonder if it has something to do with that. Any ideas how to fix it? Setup is like in both OneMarcFifty videos about Roaming and VLANs, for simplicity let's say I have VLAN2 setup. Is there anything else I need to specify on DumbAP in regards to VLANs (WiFi Roaming works and internet is reachable but IP changes which makes me wonder)?
Are those multicast pings supposed to work in an everyday dualstack network? Because I have tried at home, work and in the cloud, and while I regularly use IPv6 (even installed a plugin that tells you what site uses IPv6, as I wanted to see how common it was), and definitve can ping with IPv6 against normal endpoints, local and global, nothing with ff02 ever works anywhere, and those are all provided by entirely different network designs and companies as well as different OSs and clients. Not saying it's not great for you to explain it truly the simple way. Certainly seems like an interesting concept in comparison to trying to rely on Layer 2 things like ARP requests, that shouldn't even exist.
Hi, sir i am from indonesian My question is, how to monitoring every node in visual / gui ? Can i monitoring with grafana or somthink like that ? I also want to monitoring db signal in every mesh router
Great video! Thank you Marc! I have just recently bought a small elitedesk 800 g3 mini with a i7-7700 , and I#m waiting for a power adapter for it , but also for 2 other minis which are on their way. Never used Proxmox before, and I was planning to create some k8s clusters with these machines for some web development and home services servers , but now you made me want to give Proxmos a try :)
Please update the router list at 0:57, Xiaomi Mi Router 4A Gigabit is no more OpenWrt compatible (not yet atleast). I purchased one after watching this video, but it is hardware V2 and it is good for nothing.
OneMarcFifty, Where is the 4G LTE video's that you promised us? You are the only one besides a few other's that are worth AF to get information that makes you understand how this stuff work's and explains in depth how all this stuff work's. The OpenWRT aspect on Routerboard is perfect but the only video's that are worth AF are in Russian about the RBM11G from Routerboard. Small problem with mine, I bricked it and can't access the serial port as they have disabled it on the board to get in and load the correct firmware. The bootloader is still working but you can not get to the serial console as they have disabled the serial port on the board to access it over SSH threw putty using an adapter to get a serial connection! Am I screwed on getting access to the serial console threw the serial port on the board?
Thank you very much Marc! My VLANs are working but I am in trouble getting my access points to work as well. My access points should offer wired and wireless connection to my network. So I need to configure the access point without firewall rules and dhcp or dns and only provide this by setting gateway and dns to the mainrouter? I thank everyone for support!
