The Every Brain Matters community educates about the health and environmental dangers of marijuana and the drug culture expansion by providing support for families and advocacy, all based on science, including lived experiences.
The public is being deceived regarding marijuana products and their effects, like cannabis use disorder, cannabis-induced psychosis, and cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, which has led to a public health crisis. No matter how much the drug culture expands, we will “Keep On Keepin On” because we wholeheartedly know that Every Brain Matters.
We believe policy should be driven by science, and the best harm reduction is drug prevention.
I had a bad weed trip after smoking what we called chronic back then alone at age 13. I thought I was going to hell and heard a tornado of voices in my head. It ruined me psychologically. I didn't even know if I was still really alive or not. I remember asking my friend if this was hell and he was like Blake, wtf??? I just hid the wound from everyone and went through life. I couldn't tell my parents.
Considering that marijuana can affect the psyche in unpredictable and unique ways not typically seen with other substances like mushrooms and psychedelics, it becomes evident that it was banned due to its objective dangers. However, this rationale has often been overshadowed by overcomplications involving racism and associations with Latino communities. Public health and political interests, along with pharmaceutical lobbies, have also played mixed roles in this discourse. Evidence shows that marijuana is linked to psychosis in unique ways. Other drugs such as amphetamines, methamphetamines, and even cocaine may pose relatively fewer challenges and are more amenable to treatment and rehabilitation programs than marijuana. This is due to marijuana's unique euphoric component, where the immediate effects are essentially temporary, but the subsequent harms and consequences may last for weeks or months. Heavy usage, early onset, and a family or personal history of mental illness put individuals at higher risk than healthy individuals. Moreover, healthy people who regularly smoke high-potency cannabis strains in the skunk domain-up to multiple joints a day, are at a 400% increased probability of suffering psychosis. Surveys of these same people reported having at least one emergency visit compared to controls who did not smoke cannabis. This drug is far from entirely harmless or comparable to moderate alcohol drinking. Any amount of THC consumed, not necessarily dependent on the dose, puts a user at risk for psychosis during intoxication and afterward. Its objective dangers are far from negligible, and even cannabis grown in the 1970s could pose similar mental health challenges. Today, with higher potency products, the probability of experiencing a drug-induced psychosis is significantly increased, which could inevitably contribute to a diagnosis of schizophrenia later in life. Recent studies employing brain imaging techniques such as MRI and PET scans have provided concrete evidence of marijuana's impact on the brain. These scans have revealed structural changes in areas responsible for cognition, memory, and emotional regulation. For instance, chronic marijuana users often exhibit reduced gray matter volume in the prefrontal cortex, the region associated with decision-making and impulse control. Functional MRI scans have shown altered neural activity patterns, indicating that marijuana affects the brain's communication networks. In individuals who have experienced marijuana-induced psychosis, brain scans have demonstrated hyperactivity in the dopamine system, which is a hallmark of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. This hyperactivity suggests that marijuana can trigger or exacerbate underlying vulnerabilities in the brain's chemistry. Furthermore, adolescents who use marijuana heavily are at a greater risk because their brains are still developing. Imaging studies have shown that early exposure can disrupt normal developmental processes, leading to long-term cognitive deficits. These findings underscore the imminent harms associated with marijuana use. They provide tangible proof that the drug can cause significant and lasting changes to brain structure and function. Both healthcare professionals and the general public should be aware of these risks. The evidence from brain scans confirms that marijuana is not a harmless substance and that its use carries serious mental health implications that can affect individuals across various demographics.
Turns out Richard Nixon did a correct move by putting in Schedule 1 of drugs, and we all thought for generations that it's out of the blue, and blatant, while nothing is ever banned or restricted and people there made up a confusion of public health and politics in a mixed bag, and turns out it is objectively dangerous or even more dangerous than it's propaganda.
My psychiatrist said that marijuana is the most dangerous to mental health than other drugs, combined with mushrooms, and other typical psychedelics, and other stimulants such as amphetamines, methamphetamines, and even cocaine.

My husband is in the hospital right now due to his latest episode. If he didn't finally go when he did he would have died. His kidney were starting to fail. 3 days straight he spent in the bathtub vomiting without getting out and he finally knew it was time to get help. Thank God he did or this time around would have taken his life. After 7 years of episodes I FINALLY have an answer as to what was causing all of this! He is a cancer survivor and Marijuana was the only thing that helped him keep his food down during chemo. Now the same thing that helped him all those years ago is what is literally killing him now.
@@annarose4308 oh Anna, i am so sorry but so glad he was able to make it to the hospital on time. Would you consider writing more about this so we can raise awareness? Does your husband accept that the marijuana is poisoning him?
Thank you I had my son in the beginning of soberity 13step and we been in this delomma on pot smoking is my weakness. I learn God mercy love and grace.

Had a weed induced psychosis for 2 months. Now I’m on 1mg of respridom. Been feeling like I have no emotion, can barely visualize, and my inner monologue is dim. I just need some hope for a good recovery. How long did it take for a full recovery?

I appreciate you spreading the word about this, but dont try to conflate real cannabis with synthetic cannabinoids. It was delta 8 that did this. NOT real cannabis. I myself got poisoned from this stuff as well. Luckily I survived before my heart fully gave out. I'm still not alright though health wise.
Keep in mind, the hemp industry has been trying to pass off even delta 9 as real cannabis. So if your son got a d9 product legally from the hemp market, it was still synthetic, despite being the exact same compound thats in real cannabis. All synthetics have dangerous toxic compounds.
My neighbours secondhand marijuana seeps through our house and it literally makes us sick. My lease says that it’s prohibited but my landlord is refusing to enforce it.
Very sorry for you. In our city, people are allowed to use in their own homes and on their own balconies. So, if THC smoke comes into our home, it's our problem entirely. All the rights belong to the drug users. We have no rights to clean air.
terrible direction this nation turned. When good people fail, evil prevails, and good folks get burned 🔥. Same for this YOUTH indoctrinating perv substantiation through school education- The flow of fet and icy meth over the border and immigration will bring pure disorder, and they will come after your daughter- Being underreported in the press-. Shame on our Government, they failed the test.....
@@itruleyloveyouonyt123I never met pot smoker's who were clean tenants, on time with rent, and responsible.. There's a disconnect when THC is abused like any drug or substance.
Thank you Aubree, Heidi, Dr. Brown, and Robert Schwartz for participating in this podcast. There are no words to describe the unimaginable pain that the O'Melia family has endured. The loss of Chad is a tragedy that will forever leave a void in the lives of those who loved him. My heart goes out to his family, as well as my own, as we all continue to navigate the immense grief and sorrow since that day in May 2018. There was no ill will between Chad and me, and I would never intentionally harm anyone. I have listened to the accusations that I show no remorse and am here to tell you all I do. I am broken and aching inside. I hurt knowing O'Melia family and friends will never see Chad again…and they will never celebrate the holidays together again. This hole in their life is not lost on me… I want the family to know this… I am truly sorry for the loss and trauma you will endure for a lifetime. I too, will carry your words… pain… brokenness… and despair with me for the rest of my life. I can only hope that… in time and prayer… Chad's family and my family find some measure of peace and healing moving forward. I wish I had known more about the dangerous and deadly effects of marijuana. Had I known, I would never have smoked marijuana that night or any other time. Cannabis-induced psychosis is a very real, though not widely known, phenomenon. It is my hope that through education and advocacy, we can prevent further tragedies. The cannabis industry has grown rapidly, and with it, the potency of available products has soared, sometimes reaching over 90%. These products need clear warnings about the potential risks, particularly when it comes to techniques like stacking hits, which can dramatically increase THC potency. With the support of Every Brain Matters, I am committed to raising awareness and ensuring that people - whether long-term users or those new to cannabis - are fully informed about the potential dangers of high potency products, especially from stacking hits. Education is key to making safer, more informed decisions. -Bryn Spejcher
It is a crime that the California legislature does not regulate this inustry, which as Bob noted in his comments, has tactics which are similar to Big Tobacco. If the industry and public health organizations provided specific public health education about THC (akin to detailed sex education), I have no doubt that Chad would have been careful, and upfront with you, about what he provided to you, especially given your lack of experience. And, as you testified and commented above, if you knew there were any harms, including those to mental health and the risk to violence, you would have refused to use any--period. My heart breaks for Chad O'Melia and his family. For you and your family. You are all victims of the lies of the marijuana industry, our govt, the public health organizations and the media. Lawsuits are finally in motion. Hopefully, like it was with Big Tobacco, we will see this addiction industry pay for withholding the facts. And then public awareness will change. Our govt, public health organizations and the media will be forced to acknowledge the risks. In turn, this will reduce some of the senseless violence and loss of life to THC.
I know you prob wouldn't agree with this, But I personally think its vital now more then ever to teach kids drug safety knowledge in school. Just like sex ed. Just cause someone learns about a substance dosnt mean they will use it, Tho they may have the knowledge to save someone if needed with learning this. There mom's, dad's, brother's or sisters.
