Hi Kelly. Thank you so much for your informative videos. Especially explaining what and why you do in your sketchbook book. I love drawing in my sketchbook, but I am always overwhelmed by thoughts to create a perfect art piece in my sketchbook. But you showed me to keep it simple and also as a reference book. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
So happy to find a new video from my favorite artist! I savored as long as I could and then enjoyed it immensely. I just finished my first color chart. I did it for my new Della Magna handmade watercolors. I had 11 pans, so it took me a few days, but I feel I learned so much. Thanks for the lesson on how to do it. I must admit mine didn’t look quite as lovely as your stunning chart, but I’m working on it! Have a great week.
Your circular month sketch book is just magical!!! I also really love the concertina sketchbook!! Your design and color palette are wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
To see more videos on the circles sketchbook search for "5 minute". For the concertina there are several videos, "playlist for the 100 day project of random things", "concertina sketchbook" and "this sketchbook has been emotional." Enjoy them and thanks for watching!
Oh Kelly! Working along side you with my own work, and listening to the guitar, I feel a little less lonely in the world. thank you for all your creative loveliness and you bring out the very best in me, I imagine many feel this way too. I am now devoting time to “palettes play’ as I call it, and color charts and my output is greatly increased because I just keep doing more, and more….thank you!
Kelly - thank you so much - I've watched several of your videos and I've loved watching you paint leaves. Such a lovely idea - I've started painting leaves from my garden and it's such a joy to use the outline of a leaf as a guide and then all my attention goes into the paint and observing how it mixes and flows - and while I'm trying to make them realistic-ish - I'm not too obsessive about it - it's all an opportunity to learn about the paint and the brushes. xx
Thank you so much and I'm glad you have enjoyed painting my favorite subject, leaves! They are an obsession of mine and I just can't stop painting them LOL
Each circle represents a month. Each pie shape represents 4 days of the month. The 8th pie shape will vary with objects because of the month dates ending number (28, 30, 31).
I like the tracing ideas. I love putting the tracing in clear sleeves. I also would use oops printer copy paper. Slide down in sleeve so tracing up against the wrong side of the oops paper. Easier to flip thru and see. Winston Salem nc USA
Question here - I love your color mixing advice and how you document your palettes and color mixes. And maybe I need to just watch the rest of the video, but how do you store your big sheet of color mixing so that you know it goes with a particular palette? I’m organizationally challenged 😅
I write the palette date on the small sheet as well as the bigger sheet so they are coordinated. I then store the larger sheets in a storage display book art portfolio that's 14"x17". You can find them at Hobby Lobby or Dick Blick, here's a link to see them www.dickblick.com/products/itoya-original-art-profolios/
I love that you went from a small Moleskin to a large (huge?!) one - that was so brave! Your art is beautiful and you’ve inspired me to document the colors I’ve used and to splash! 😊
It was a HUGE step for me and one of the largest sketchbooks to date but I also loved having as much space as I wanted to create and fill as I saw fit. The small one just wouldn't fit anything in it. Try one, it is a game changer!
Such a wonderful video that shows how you progressed and changed and what stayed the same was you. Your heart and soul shines through each video and lively art. I so look forward to each one as the always inspire and make me want to create instead of just scrolling. So thank you once again for the beautiful spirit with which you teach. 😊
Hello Miss Kelly!! I am reaching out to see if you have any videos where you show in the recording how you balance water and using a napkin/ paper towel with your brush and paints?… And I have too many favorites in this video to ONLY pick 3!! *addicted to anything granulated!!!* 🤣🎨🖌️😍🥰❤️🔥
I too love granulating colors, welcome to the group LOL As far as the water balance, that is a great question and I don't have a video on it but will be making one now with your suggestion, thank you!
Thank you very much for this, it's extremely helpful!🌷 I have a question about the colour cube card you show at 6.31. How do you get those? Is it a stock pic where you identify colours on the computer, pull them on the margin and then print? Or maybe they are selling like this? I wanted to ask you many times but every time somehow got distracted while watching you mix the colours afterwards and forgot to do it.
The designer of these wonderful cards is Sarah Renae Clark, you can search for her here on RU-vid. You can order the Color Cube sets from her website here sarahrenaeclark.com/colorcube/ Happy shopping!
I really love your colour mixing exercises, it's beautiful and so useful for us 😍 Keep doing what you are doing, Kelly, as you and your channel are truly great 💕
You are too kind and I'm glad you found the information helpful! Color mixing is the best and pretty soon you just do it all the time without even thinking about it, enjoy.
ii love these colors!! yesterday ii was playing with an artecho w/c quad, gamboge, vermilion, green gold & indigo.... thinking of using yr quad for the opposite page....a sort of grid journal page using ovals w/random marks throughout and a single contrasting back color around each mini 'portrait'...did find a couple of mats to cut up as cropping tools, though the Michael's frame girl was incredibly sloppy with cuts ii could (should) have made... oh well, it still works & it surprised her why ii wanted to cut it up.... a $2 mess that works reminds me to work past the ugly stage...cheers!
What absolutely beautiful paintings you've made out of the book illustrations, I'm in love 😍 And how lovely are those antique items you showed. Absolutely exquisite, all of it! Thank you very much for another inspirational video!🌷
Thank you for this! I thought I was the only one who has various pallets that are different! I do label and make small notes about them so I know which ones I love!
I like to challenge myself with out of the box color wheels, they make it just a little bit more exciting for me and I discover so much when I do this exercise!
My mom bought me the set of two cubes and I've been struggling to figure out how to use them. I love how you took something you normally would have done differently, and used the cube card. Decided to subscribe to you! Thanks! 😊
Thank you and welcome to In the Studio! You can find several color cube card videos on my channel if you search for them. There are also a lot of playlists if you are looking for something specific, enjoy!
@kellyhoernig oh, and I am also very interested in your water splatter technique! Never seen anyone do that, and it's super cool for texture and showing off comolex colors. Thanks foe the tips about the Playlist. I didn't notice that. 😀
@@loripatrick8335 you are welcome and I use the water splashing technique for texture and also giving your paintings a lot of lovely color values. Have fun splashing with water, it is very addictive!
Hi Kelly, this video was so inspiring.Your aesthetic is right up my alley. I absolutely adore the BIG journal. Is this a class that you are still offering? I like the idea of incorporating magazine pictures, photos and ephemera with the paintings.
I am just what I call a hobby artist and after years of painting pictures, most of which didn’t go anywhere! I collected a series of sketchbooks of all shapes and sizes. In one I do landscapes, another, birds, another chairs, another flowers. One is a nature journal. I really enjoy this as whatever I feel like painting on any given day I do so in the appropriate sketchbook and slowly fill them up. I love your artwork, Thankyou.🇬🇧😁
I do that too, each sketchbook kind of has a purpose for experimentation and play. Although I do have a large one that just collects everything and anything LOL Thank you for watching!
Good morning Kelly and beautiful artists. As another viewer commented I look forward to your posts and have purchased all of your classes but have yet to start them as I have some unfinished acrylic projects and I want to commit to your courses full time. I am the world’s slowest painter and am really impressed and inspired by your art and watercolors. Thank you so much for continuing your art journey with us.
