I'm pretty sure you ran into the Muton Football Team. Three Berserkers, Six Mutons, and Six Heavy Floaters... you could make a football team out of that, I think.
I would have liked Reyna here as first choice. You have the sailing boost and many sea/coastal resources available which is good for early, harbour >>> more trade routes upon completing
Sweet civ 6 again. I've changed my opening off Magnes to Leiang for the plus 1 builder charges in the early game. It's a 33% boost if your looking at it. Bit the I go with Pengula for either science or culture depending on whom I'm playing. Mag is good but tired of the same starts.

Wow Sectopods are just stupid tanky! Does the game difficulty adjust the likelihood of soldiers possessing the psi gift? I feel like you've been so unlucky this campain with soldiers not having the psi gift. On my playthroughs Zhang has always been gifted (maybe it's another guarantee like Annette?)
He's tested mostly higher ranked soldiers I think. It's more difficult to get psi abilities on higher ranked soldiers. It's capped at Will/4 for anyone above lieutenant. So a will of 100 has a 25% chance. OTOH, rookies have +75% chance to have the gift if there is no one with the gift yet. +55% for squaddie, +35% for sergeant and +15% for lieutenant. That bonus goes down drastically if you have 1 existing psi soldier (and gone if you have 2 psi soldiers). So getting the first psi soldier on a rookie is quite easy. But he had Annette already, so odds of getting a second one are really low.
