Proto-freelance layout in N scale Modelling the Canadian Pacific somewhere in Southern Ontario where the Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo (TH&B) is still around with passenger service GO Transit
Awesome! Thanks for taking part in my tank car challenge. 😊😊😊 Love it. When my eyesight could still handle N I had plenty of Rapido equipment. Great stuff. Cheeky including a military tank. 😊👍 Really like the THB geep.
Don't use standard WD-40 on track, it's a lubricant and you'll end up with some very slippery rails! The product you need is WD-40 Contact Cleaner, which is a different thing altogether.
Nice video. This was also my first year attending and shot a ton of video there (which is on my channel). It is truly an experience to see all the manufacturer's (both large and small) displaying their products. The layouts were all incredible. I am planning to go again in 2025. It is a bit of an investment of time and treasure, but the ideas one walks away with are priceless.
Keep an eye out for the new MRC Nexxt system coming soon. It'll supoort what you have now and expand options when you are ready. It'll be even bigger for Amherst 25
Feel free to ask questions about it if you have any. I've been working on it and most likely met you at Amherst this year or last. My main goal is to keep it simple but expand the functionality where it makes sense and have it ready for users who want it.
At a very high level: * Nexxt Gateway will upgrade your WiFi WiThrottle device with the following: higher speed and concurrent throttle count (10+), Persistent Locomotive Roster for display on throttles, Customization of function names on all locomotives, WiThrottle and LCC protocols for clients (LCC is a newer NMRA standard with a few throttles on the market now!), JMRI interface over WiFi or USB. * Nexxt Throttle - WiFi throttle with built-in battery (8hr+ operating time between charges), full color display (2.8in diagonal), easier/guided programming interface (POM and Prog track), supports WiThrottle and LCC protocols for talking to the command station (for Prodigy Advance/Express via Gateway) * Nexxt Command Station - MAIN track current limit would be +/- 5A, RailCom support, up to 2048 accessory decoders, no cab / throttle count limit, Automated roster entry creation from PROG track, and more. * Nexxt Booster - +/- 5A track current limit, RailCom support. This is currently in development and may be on demo at Amherst. If you can, send me an email (check my channel for address) and I'll be able to share more info (including photos and WIP docs).
@@cpwhiskycreeklooks like RU-vid ate the comment that I posted. But at a high level you will get the latest NMRA standards, expanded features across the board (including RailCom), higher track current limits on the CS, customizable function names on all locomotives, persistent built-in locomotive rosters, expanded accessory decoder support, editable routes and more of them, expanded throttle support (including using Prodigy throttles on the new system), new WiFi throttle with 8hr battery life (maybe longer) and more
good thing about any system that you choose to use now a days, you tube will have a video about it, or you can join many live chats and ask questions, lots of people to answer you
Great share Chris I know a few guys have that system. It seems a lot like NCE looks comparable. I say use what works for you and is easy. I definitely like going wireless 🛜 is the best way to go. Great video and explanation
@@cpwhiskycreek They pulse the DC and change the wave form at lower voltages on their DC packs, and I'm sure their DCC has some of the same DNA, hence the Rapido warning about MRC.
For Table Saw safety when doing small(thin) cuts on stock I use two different methods. 1. I cut a little more of the length of the board and then flip the board lengthwise so I always have a piece of the wood to hold on to for control, 2. I use put the wide side of the wood against the fence using the offal side of the cut as the side that is good for the project. Modelers should search cutting thin strips on You Tube.
Proper weight really does improve performance. I use wheel weights used to balance auto wheels/tires. They are cheap and can be purchased at any auto parts store.
I've been using pine car derby weights (thin and wide) to keep the COG low. For hoppers I've been using tiny steel shot and soak it with watered down Elmers glue.
That’s a neat way to sort out the weight. I have seen guys use liquid weight as well. I bet you could fill those shoots and it becomes solid. That should evenly distribute the weight as well. The nut and bolt is classic though. Thanks for sharing.
You'd think the securing clips would be on side of the caboose and not on the roof. That needs to be specified in the instructions. Great looking model however.
Great channel ,love it. I enjoy watching your videos ,nice mix of content.I did manage to visit Little Canada 2 years ago with my girlfriend (she brought me for my birthday) and we had a very enjoyable time. Great update ,very nice layout. I model in N scale myself and just recently received two beautiful Rapido Vans (Soo Line and CP) and a few center beam lumber cars. I was watching your video on making lumber loads....GREAT ! Keep up the great work.
Adding to all of the previous comments...I must agree with several. Was really excited when I saw this advertised so I pre-ordered and the caboose finally arrived today (D&RGW). The detail on the model is quite good for sure but could not wait to get the lights working. Surprised it did not come with batteries...nothing in the instructions mentions that (or type) and only after having read some of the comments did I find out 392's were what the model requires. Getting the cupola off was a pain in the a**! The tabs that hold it on are NOT on the sides of the cupola but on the front and back. I had to use a small flat blade to gently push them back (without damaging anything thankfully) for final removal of the cupola...and after several choice words BTW!!! I collect watches so luckily I had 392 cells on hand. Which way to install as far as polarity? No guidance from the instructions...big surprise there considering cupola removal process details/error. It turns out the positive side of the cells should face down with (2) 392 cells required. Got the magnet out to ops check. Lights came on when magnet is close to front and back of the cupola respectively. Not super bright...probably will only be visible when the train room is darkened. I guess I am kinda okay with this item but disappointed with the frustration that was not at all expected. It would have been better if the same attention to detail were made in the instructions as the manufacturer did with the packaging. Happy railroading to all...Cheers!
@@cpwhiskycreek ah, well, it looked like you were well off the right of way. I have some old videos from the 90's I don't think I should post. I was waaayyyy too close to the trains and I just don't want to hear about it 35 years later, but watching them makes me cringe now.
Cool layout and love the Canadian theme.. i too bought the rapido caboose(van) because they look great and i needed them etc..the lights were very dull was this your experience as well?
Love your SD 40-2 , I'm an n scaler too Gave ya a hint, move to horns of the cab, place them on front of the third rad fan from the rear. I've taken lots of photos of SDs up here in Canada in Calgary Alberta, I received my my caboose about a week before you may have, and thought it's a great model, I too wasn't a happy camper when it came to the batteries. I too I subscribe to your channel , You have a great layout
Hey Chris Great Video & letting us know the Hassle of the Battery Installation as for the Batteries the Equivalent to the LR4 that Rapido list, try the Energizer 392 the ( 392 ) button cell watch battery but I'm on the Fence of detaching the coupla as Well i have the Santa Fe Model it looks Damn sharp but i dont wanna break it have you tried pulling the shell off the caboose Rapido back some years ago pulled the shell on one of there N scale cabooses to dim the lights because they we're to bright they dimmed the lights with black paint but I'd think if that early made Wide Vision was to we're the shell could be removed these models could be as well you might give it a try & save removing the coupla.. But so far I'm liking my little Santa Fe Take Care Allen D
