This channel was created for anyone who owns the Aerolite 103 ultralight airplane.

Most of us buy them unfinished though and we need to add things before they can be flown. Things like our own choice/s of engine/s, steam gauges or electronic instruments, electric starters or pull cord, Emergency parachute deployment systems, larger fuel tanks, trim tabs, etc. The list can go on and on.

I didn't find a lot on the Internet about the construction of our airplanes. Most of what's on the NET is video of them flying, or the like. So I decided to start a RU-vid channel for others like me who also had questions about their airplane's construction. As you know the manual that comes with the plane has a few missing chapters. Like the engine installation chapter. Not there. So one has to figure it out as you go, depending on what engine you use.

I hope my RU-vid channel helps you. And please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions.

"Blue Skies & Tailwinds" to you all.

Awesome job on first solo flight!!! It doesn’t have to do with flying, but I remember when I got my learners permit for my motorcycle. I met up with a friend that’s had his license for years. He was in his pickup and said to follow him back to his house and he’ll jump on his bike and we can go ride. He forgot the whole learners permit thing and got on the interstate and I followed. It was at that moment I found myself in a situation I wasn’t sure how to get out of as I was still figuring out this motorcycle so I kept going talking myself through the gear shifting, signaling and everything else at once. I was scared!! It’s crazy how we can quickly adapt to situations when faced with fear or very stressful situations. I look forward to your shared adventures and continue to entertain the possibilities that one day I might just decide to get an Aerolite myself.

I’m in my 50’s with similar history . I have been perusing my dream for many years and finally I can see that this beauty Aerolite with safety fixtures is available. Please, continue with your videos as an inspiration for others like me to complete the dream of flying on this round.

I agree with both recommendations. Ditch the plastic Tee, reroute the fuel lines.

cloud condition did not look suitable for flying in microlight also you seem to be over correcting the aircraft should’ve let it fly just keep the altitude up of just my opinion

Late to the party here - but you appear to be pushing hard on the left rudder which would cause you to compensate by turning the yoke to the right. Nice flight

I found he was commenting on another 103 channel under a different account name. He said someone he knew got killed in his airplane that had a hanger there. Got the feeling he lost he flying bug maybe little fearful of getting killed yeah I can understand that. Single seat aircraft never really going to get training like a duel control. Experimental adds another layer of risk on top of that.

every mxl that i checked needed a pound of weight in the right wing tip, no one checks left right balance. hang it from the root tube front and rear and balance the plane left and right, otherwise you use the ailerons all the time and add drag.

Been there done that!!!🤦🏼‍♂️ They don’t work quite right when backwards! Had to spin mine 180 degrees too! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Don’t know what I was thinking the day I put them on! Must have had the brain in the neutral or off position? The flat part of the prop goes on the side you want your thrust going/blowing. I’m now testing my prop at 10.5 degrees pitch, adding .5 degrees from the last time I flew it, attempting to lower cruise RPM.

I’m Canadian eh? I had a snowmobile with a Rotax 503 engine in it. The machine weighed about 460 pounds and at the time I weighed about 260. I loaded the rack with a huge back pack that weighed about 50 pounds and I towed a boggan with three five gallon Jerry cans of fuel and enough supplies for a week out in -40 degree temperatures. I would go for long trips out into the middle of nowhere and climb mountains with that sled. I owned it for about eight years. I beat the tar out of that machine and sold it to a guy who took it out to hunt bison. That machine never let me down, it never stalled or sputtered the entire time I had it. I ran every type of two cycle oil out there without issue. I ran it from sea level to about 9,000 feet. I once rescued a hello skier with it and towed other broken down snowmobile with it. I can say with great confidence that the Rotax 503 is a very stout engine indeed.

I'm going to assume here that those tubes underneath are for fuel, I would agree they are very exposed and vulnerable to hitting something or having a rock or something thrown up to damage it. Instead of rerouting you could possibly build some sort of shield but I guess that adds weight it wouldn't take much a piece of formed aluminum maybe. Reminds me of the time I was following this car and they ran over this big chunk of concrete must've fallen out of someone's truck or something but they ran right over it and wiped out there oil pan, I stopped to help but there wasn't much to do except push the car. Thanks for making the video those of us who are just getting interested in learning to fly appreciate any information.
