Major failure. With that OAL and cost a catamaran makes way more sense - you have TWO hulls for sleeping, a wide central cabin, front tramp area, and a proper rear zone for hoisting a dinghy. Nobody in their right mind would want this tri. I can’t believe it won an award.
This boat has a design speed of 24 knots and great light wind performance due to its low weight. The folding amas allow it to fit in to small marinas common in northern europe. It serves a completely different market niche than your typical bungalow on pontoons. There is nothing wrong with prefering a caravan over a similarily priced racer but that doesn't mean the latter is stupid or has no market. The dragonfly 40 is actually quite popular and has won races.
This is just what I was looking for, more please or at least point me in the direction to understand all these concepts as they apply to a classic A cat. Turns on a dime, can throw you like a horse. Im working on dialing in my first A cat currently! Will
I would be willing to assemble a team to take one down to Cabo and get some great footage and kick ass music, drone shots etc. I am an experienced sailor, surfer and Baja traveler.
Thank you so much for the detailed filming and explanation/descriptions of the Dyer. I’ve owned a Midget, own a Dhow, and planning on a Dink purchase this weekend! I hope that I’m able to sail in a wide river area, and occasionally have a friend along.. Thank you again!
Well...I did get the Dink! I also joined the “multiple-view” club in watching this again. I think this is the only Dink video on RU-vid.. Pray tell, what type/model of tiller extension are you using?
It was probably hard to find a more nerving music. Makes quit watching long before the end of the clip. This lovely boat did not deserve to be treated like that!
I found the video very interesting and informative but I was confused by the term "massive flies" (or message fly in one part of the transcript). A search on Google just took me to how to avoid flies (insects) on a boat. Please help.
Just doing some research and learning about the DF95 before becoming an owner and finding one of my heroes doing a clinic! OMG!!! Ken Read supper fan! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
There is a lot to get my head around in this video. Will need to look at it a few times. First take and understanding indicates that effort will be worthwhile.
Stupid video. Could have been great if you showed what they were actually talking about but my god. Maybe you could learn something from the retro boat series? Or BUY the rights to that show from Sailing Anarchy!
electric engine with diesel genset, horrible nav station layout.. better use of space.. might as well expand that bathroom.. why duel helm in that layout.. seems better to just have it centered. why a center board, why not c foils in the amas ?
I sailed in a one design fleet a few years. We won just about every race Kicked some butts at the nationals and we talked about just about everything except sailing the boat.. our team was so good
Hey Dave Reed! Check out the upward climb of the 105 at the Chicago Noods this year. Many fleets seem to have found some new legs and we all know the pull of one design racing. Beautiful boat!
What is going on with the camera? This video is frustrating to watch. Gary is explaining the layout and controls which is difficult to interpret by audio only while the video is showing J/35s racing. Please, we need better production of a great series that I very much enjoy and hope there is more exploring of different classes and their boats.
yes, I want to see what he was talking about too...I have a stripped down J35 I'm putting back together, the things he is talking about are exactly what I'm trying to figure out, what to put back, what to replace, what to leave off. Love that totally stripped interior
Having raced Annapolis this year on Division 3 course with all of the J Boats, it was very tricky working all of the traffic, especially as we were the last start on a J-80
Really great presentation, I watched both parts, like you both said, have a good start, go fast and get the first shift... its easy. Thanks for the videos
Your throttle curves are usually used on helis. It's to set your rotor speed relative to your collective pitch. Idle mode just sets a throttle setting that doesn't move while you adjust collective pitch using the joystick. Normal adjusts throttle and collective at the same time with the joystick. Using these curves on the boat is a great idea. On my radio I have a three position switch. You could set each position to haul in the sails at maximums by setting the throttle curves to 0-100 on switch positition 1. (Black) Throttle curve 5-100 on switch position 2. (Red) Throttle curve 10-100 on switch position 3. (Green) I wish I could come race with you guys.
