@webncyber :))) What you are doing there is just an unnecessary work-around! It seems that you are missing the main/straight-forward way of connecting a midi device to a track in Cubase. In your case, just click on the track in which you want to receive midi data from the midi controller, go to the Cubase "Inspector" on the left side and click where it says "All MIDI Inputs" - there you select the MIDI port and channel through which you want that particular track to communicate to your MIDI controller/keyboard. Now click on the next track and chose another MIDI channel, through which that track will communicate with your MIDI keyboard. Use the same technique for the 3rd track and for any number of tracks that you have. The only limitation is how many MIDI ports and MIDI channels your midi device/s has/have. A midi device with a single MIDI port has 16 midi channels running through that port (not less, not more - generally). Now, to separately play the 3 different instruments on those 3 different tracks, on your MIDI keyboard, you just need to change the output MIDI channel in your midi keyboard to correspond with the midi channel on the track that you want to play. Finish! You do not need to have all the 3 tracks selected at the same time! You do not need to use that MIDI Channel Input Transformer plugin for this! I guess you are new to DAWs and Cubase. If you spend more time learning and searching youtube videos for the things that you do not understand yet, you will see that everything in Cubase makes sense and it is much more straight-forward than you have dared to think of. MIDI basics: A) - 1 MIDI port means 1 MIDI cable / 1 MIDI input OR output. This is true in the case of the "5-pin DIN MIDI connection", which is the standard MIDI connection. In the case of the MIDI over USB connection - I believe that USB cables and USB MIDI devices might allow more MIDI virtual ports on the same USB cable input/output. But this is dependant on the midi hardware that you have. If you find more MIDI ports in the "USB MIDI ports" menu of your MIDI hardware, and that MIDI hardware only has one USB physical port, then ... good for you! But I repeat, I am not sure about this possibility! B) - Every MIDI port has 16 midi channels (not less, not more) running through it. If you want your MIDI hardware/device to controll/play a particular track in your DAW, you need to match your MIDI device/keyboard's output MIDI port and channel to that particular DAW track's input MIDI port and channel. In this way only the matching pairs of MIDI devices - MIDI tracks will communicate to each other/play. If all your tracks in your DAW have the MIDI inputs set to "all MIDI inputs", then all those tracks will receive and use all the midi data that comes into the DAW, at the same time - I believe this was your case and the confusing factor for you. If your MIDI device is set to "send data through all the midi outputs", then all the tracks that are set to receive data through those respective MIDI ports and channels will receive and use that data at the same time. Only those tracks! If a track is set to "no MIDI input", than that track won't receive nor use any data. I hope this info reaches as many MIDI newcomers as possible and it clears their MIDI misunderstandings.
Yeah, ive tried transpose & and it's not logical. My big problem with using it live is not being able to chain Scenes. Ives used all 16 for one song and could have used more. Id also like to be able to map a trigger to the Scenes to free my hands to improvise.
Very useful and well presented. I was not aware that midi channels are stored per project. I missed this feature for the control mode! There it seems that the CC Knob values can only be set globally but not per project. Right?
I think that maybe the keystep translates the traspose function in a relative way as if it was on key of C. I mean if your song is on D, for instance, and you press A for transpose, your song will go on key of B because it calculates the interval between C and A. Try it and tell us if I m correct.
@@webncyber I did not understand anything. Just that. The first thing you should do is explain what trans mean... Which later I learned it´s trasnposition.. I know what transposition is, but you do not explain it.. So explain trasn, then explain transposition, then yu explain what exactly does, and then you explain what is annoying you.

Hi Luis, hmm nop you dont need to use AUM if the 8 channels in Sampletank is enough for what you need to do, I only used it to have more additional sounds and volume controls. If you just use Sampletank, you can have 4 sound layers so each 2 channel used for one layer and etc...
It does not work for me, i've been stuck with it for 3 days. I tried everything. Is there a setting on the keystep pro itself? I'm doing all the same things and all channels play at the same time always. Very frustrating
what sampletank version do you use dude? i installed the new version 2.0.11 version sampletank can't make a layer.... i try in ipad and iphone but have the same result....
@@payentertainment2949 hmmm it might depend on what apps and setup you using but I say try everything first with whatever ipad you have. If works great if not you get the new model
I've just recently got the Keystep pro. It works great for my use case, but I keep reading about half baked features and some bugs here and there. Kindof worring due to the fact that it's been almost a year since the last update 😌

Hmm yes I did sync the KSP with Cubase in the past but don’t remember how. Just play with the options in synchronization part in Cubase or I think KSP has sone online instructions too for it.
@@webncyber I had a play with it yesterday and all good now. You need to set Cubase to send midi clock out to the key step/beatstep pro and have the sync on the key step set to USB. Press start on the key step and it waits for you to start Cubase play/record.
Hello, I bought Mk2 for using with iPad like you as well, but my problem is Knob no 1 and Knob no 9 doesn’t work properly others are fine. Have you ever seen something like that about the knobs on the Minilab? I have searched some forums but couldn’t find solution.
Hi, hmm not really. What’s exactly not working on it? Manufacture defect maybe? You can use an app called Midi Wrench to check if it’s sending any midi info
@@webncyberwhen I rotate Knob 1 and Knob 9 clockwise or opposite, it can only take 6-7 Value (other knobs can take 120) but some people have the same problem on their Minilab but nobody explained the solution. It looks like it is not a physical problem, but still I’m not shure (Midi wrench shows the same btw)
@@fidodido7711 hmm I say just make sure you are not using the template 1 it's for for Analog Lab and can't be e changed, use any other templates from 2-8. And use the Midi control center software to change the values and see each controller settings
I can kind of understand the way they implemented the trans button. It works hard on offsets and doesn't care about the key you're playing in. Definitely not through through properly and needs a better approach... A way to sequence the trans button would just be amazing though. 😎
It works but it will not transpose as you expect. For example, you recorded on D and turned on the transpose and you want it to transpose on G, it will not transpose on G, it will transpose to some different key other than the one you are trying to transpose because it was not recorded on C. For some reason they are always counting the starting point on C in order to transpose, instead of the key you record with.
@@bjamminsincebirth3494 I don't think so. They do have the details in the documentation on how the transpose works and why you should always record on C but I don't remember what was the reason
Thanks for your videos on the Keystep pro. I have found them very informative and quite eye opening. I have been thinking of buying one but am now not so sure. The whole thing seems a bit half arsed and I would have expected Much better from such a company. I mean at the price, which is way way more than the production hardware cost, I would have expected solid, tried and tested software. All the issues you have raised are software rather than hardware issues and as you have pointed out, a lot could be done with options in a setup menu. I mean physically it looks like some sub $100 toy. I’m starting to wonder if it is in fact little more.
You can use the KSP with patterns and scenes and chains . I think it is a great value for live in that part to build whole song sections but the Trans feature is kind of useless at the moment but it’s only %5 of the over features of what you can do.
@@webncyber The trans feature is probably the one I would use the most. I would also hope to trigger it vis midi foot switch as live I am a vocalist/guitarist. I am currently tooing and frooing between a ksp and an mpc one.. Quite different I know. I use an Alesis rs18 and a Korg Wavestate which I hope to sequence with either a ksp or mpc one. Can run the 4 sounds in Wavestate via seperate midi channels. The stand alone features of the mpc are a big plus and it’s sounding like far batter value for money to me. One thing I have just heard of though is the NDLR. Could be just the thing with the Wavestate.
I see, yes in that case Trans will not work for you. FYI I think there is a way to switch patterns and scenes with ksp using external midi controller but I haven’t looked closely on that how it works.
@@webncyber Thanks. I appreciate your input. Not looking so much for foot switching between pre existing backing tracks. More live hands on and foot switchable sequencing. I already have a TCHalicon VL3x and the main reason I got that one in particular is the ability to import backing tracks. Although I can make my own in my home studio it gets a bit Karaoke.
Hello. Can you please tell how you did to program your arturia minilab mk2 with sample tank. I bought a same unit but cannot make sample tank midi learn to achieve your same results. Thanks in advance for your kind answer
Hi, so I used two things to map it. The first thing is to set each midi channel of mk2 knobs to separate channel from 1-4 with CC 7, and set the correspondent instrument slots midi channels as well in sample tank that way automatically each knob will correspond to the proper midi channel volume from 1-4. The second part is I changed the other four knobs in MK2 to have empty CC numbers like 120 or any and then I used the midi learn in sample tank on only those four knobs to the bottom section of smple tank instruments to control toggle mute on the mk2 pads with different cc's on the pad to toggle on and off instruments which will add a layer or remove but note that when you're layering both layers needs to be on same midi channel in order to work, but the second layer volume knobs also need to be mapped to different midi CC with mk2 on same midi channel. Hope this helps!
