You really have me beaten this time - don't know the work, can't find it to hear on-line....& instead of being peaceful on a Sunday morning, I'm - rather less than that ! Don't suppose.....?

Well, this is from the CD liner notes: Alexander Vasilyevich ALEXANDROV is probably the most famous among the composers featured on this CD. An excellent composer of sacred music in the first half of his life, he subsequently became a symbol of compositional art during the Soviet era. Numerous cultural scholars claim that there was no genuine global cultural upheaval between Russia during the time of the Romanovs and Stalin’s Soviet Union era. Alexandrov saw no general ideological for musical obstacles standing in the way of his transformation from choirmaster of Christ the Saviour Cathedral (1918-1922) to “official” musician of the Soviet Union. The orientation towards the traditional Russian melody remained and was even encouraged. Patriotism received official justification and received support from various sources within the world of the arts. Even the Russian saints were “rehabilitated” as demonstrated by the revival of the Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky. Alexandrov was therefore displaying sincerity to God, his homeland and himself in his composition of both hymns of the Divine Liturgy and the hymn of the Soviet Union (1941-1991) which since 2002 has been adopted as the national anthem of the Russian Federation, but with a new text. This anthem which has become a symbol for the new face of the Russia of today is steeped in the melodies of the Znamensky hymns and other ancient sacred chants. Its harmonic language is far removed from Soviet songs for the masses or even the popular songs of the time - the progression of modulations clearly originates from the depths of distant centuries. Several passages from the recollections of his grandson Evgeny Vladimirovich Alexandrov, On the Anniversary of a Great Man, provide a clear image of the master composer: “Alexander Alexandrov was already 45 when he received an invitation to direct the Red Army Vocal Ensemble which had been assembled in the Central House of the Red Army. Josef Stalin heard the ensemble for the first time in 1933 and from this point onwards, no concert initiated by the government was held without the participation of this choir. Stalin was extremely well disposed towards Alexander Vasilyevich and regularly phoned him in private to invite my grandfather to breakfast or lunch. My father told me the story of a phone call received during the night: - I would like to speak to Alexander Vasilyevich! - Who is speaking? - Tell him it is Stalin… There was immediate turmoil at home. Grandfather ran to the phone and attempted to get dressed while holding the receiver in one hand and his trousers in the other. It turned out that all Stalin wanted was to hear the Russian folk song Kalinuschka at a concert organized by the government. Immediately, soldiers who had already performed this song were summoned so that the text and melody could be notated. As soon as the entire ensemble had assembled during the night, Alexander Vasilyevich began rehearsing this piece with the choir. In 1939, Alexander Vasilyevich composed the Song of the Bolshevik Party based on words by Lebedev-Kumach. When Stalin heard this song during a concert, he immediately requested that Alexander Vasilyevich should repeat the performance, but this time slower and more majestically, like a huge ship powerfully parting the waves on its path through the ocean. The song sounded completely different performed in this manner and Stalin remarked with satisfaction: ‘Now it sounds really good. We will name it the Anthem of the Bolshevik Party.’ This was how the work became the basis for the Anthem of the Soviet Union”. It must be added that Alexander Alexandrov was the only composer featured on this CD who was never a member of the Synodal Academy; following conclusion of his studies in conducting at the St Petersburg Court Chapel, Alexandrow was appointed at the Petersburg Conservatory where he had received tuition from Rimsky-Korsakov, Glasunov und Lyadov.
THE Alexandrov, whose magnificently coached Red Army Chorus was worth billions of dollars in propaganda to the atheist, persecuting Soviet Union? Blimey!
How Humankind Came To Be “...Since it’s the new year, I should have said a few festive words that everyone likes to hear, but I see danger is getting closer and closer to mankind. Because of this, Gods and Buddhas asked me to tell all beings in the world a few words that the Gods wish to say. Every word reveals heavenly secrets, and the purpose is for people to know the truth and be given another opportunity to be saved.” * Why the Creator Seeks to Save All Life “...The Creator is the Lord of all gods in the cosmic realm, and He is the maker of the Lord of all lords, and the King of all kings. He commands all beings, including all humans, gods, and things in the Three Realms, which He has created. His love is the ultimate holy grace for sentient beings! It is the greatest honor for the world’s people to be loved by Him!” New articles by Master Li Hongzhi on Minghui website
This is the first time I’ve heard of this composer. And that is a shame. Because this was intensely spiritual and moving. Very soul rendering and absolutely beautiful. Keep these posts coming.
Thank you for your kind words. This is exactly the purpose of this channel: being a reminder of countless forgotten classical gems. Many more will be published.
How utterly beautiful! Thank-you for this breathtakingly gem. I never heard this album before. But what a wonderful way to show praise to our Lord, Jesus Christ! 🛐⛪️
