I mean, it's capitalism, pure and simple. The fact that party culture, while fun sometimes is done in such excess and to the Cultures deficit, is on purpose. The main movers and shakers in the music industry are still wyt, and they'll only play your songs if you put out Drake music. It's pigeonholing a lot of artists to constantly be out there with their stuff for no reason just to stay relevant. FD talks more about this concept much more succinctly, but I really think the old school gatekeepers let the party go on too long.
This is the original soulful hip hop which has mostly been lost because younger or lame listeners are just looking for "this beat wild 😜". I really enjoyed it. Once again the quality is in another level compared to the 15 songs put out by Drake.

Dirty mackin is when a man disparages another man’s name or exposes secret exploits of said partner to a woman for sexual access. There’s “nothing” wrong with bagging a chick in a relationship if she’s going. It’s your fault for wifing a 304. But to talk down on the man in order to pull the chick is what we call Dirty mackin. It’s seen as weak to have to disrespect a man’s name for sex. If you have real game you’re expected to use your style charisma charm and personality to hook up with a girl. Mentioning another man in that process is less than.
i think that pause is him showing his confusion on what to do. i take it as he wants to do something, but he doesn't know what and it stumps him to the point he can't even just spit out some random BS to fill the air
Idk if anyone else agrees (i’ve paused at 1:53), but to me this song had the sort of unsettling feeling that a lot of people attributed to Meet The Grahams. Like, that song felt a little too “stereotypically eerie” to be actually creepy to me (I still like the song, don’t get me wrong), but THIS song. This song feels like reading the diary of a school shooter (and i’m not saying that in a joking way, that’s just the first thing that popped in my head). It has a sort of fatalistic determination to it that kinda makes my nerves crawl
I was waiting for your take on this song, it feels like (from a comment in a vibezilla vid) "this song is when the balloons have deflated and theres a half pinned banner on the wall" to which to add, Kendrick's talking to the industry and people who havent left the not like us party, and sobered them up. I feel like Future and Baby Keem are the obvious feature during the half-time - King's Dead is a great song and Future would probably give a remastered "La-di-da-di-da" with a deeper voice a shot just to redeem himself, since he has expressed that he doesn't like the attention and memes he got from the original version. - Savior is an insanely PG-13 song if you take out some swears and extremely uplifting, perfect for the super bowl. MR. MORALE, GIVE ME HIGH FIVE!! - Like That would be INSANE, the reveal of Future walking in to Metro's "DA-RA-RA DA-RA-RA DA-RA-RA DA-RA-RA DA-RA DA-RA" would hype everyone up. The clean version gon be hilarious tho "Man, forget the Big 3. People, it's just big me. What a- BUM" and for Kendrick's songs alone, he would definitively play Humble to kick things off, Not Like Us (clean), King Kunta and WEEE GONN BEEE ALLLRIIIIGHTTTTTTTTT!!!
One interpretation I heard about that silent/censored bar is that Kendrick is praying 🙏🏽 in that moment. So my interpretation is that blank space is a literally an empty space, the void. In that emptiness is a reflection of who you are based on what you think Kendrick did in that silent moment. Kendrick already rapped about violence that he would bring about the current state of the industry, so we're in a headspace of imagining a violent Kendrick; but also right before Kendrick's empty bar is him asking what Lecrae would do: "fuck these _______ up or show them just what would prayer do." If left blank, it's your own imagination that would fill in the blank of what atrocities Kendrick would do. If you're a person of faith and turn that faith towards Kendrick as our fellow man, we interpret his silence as him quieting his own tongue, holding back his own demons and sinful inclination, and really showing us what prayer is. Funk is not about the sound, it's about the absence of sound where you think sound should be. "So by the time you hear the next pop, the funk shall be within you." "Is it wickedness or is it weakness? You decide. Am I gonna live or die?" "Do yourself a favor and get a mirror that mirror grievance. Then point it at me so the reflection can mirror freedom." In short, I think the blank bar is a mirror into you based on how you think that blank bar mirror reveals Kendrick. Will he be what you think the worst he could possibly do? Or will he be the one who literally stopped himself to pray, doing what he thought Lecrae would do and with Dee-1's empathy?
I interpreted the pause in the verse as him saying although he wishes he was more empathetic and have a heart like Dee-1, but he’d basically do some unspeakable, evil things to these niggas 14:01
