I really miss the thrill of watching AOT for the first time and uncovering all these different aspects of Hange's personality What a great character Thank you for the video🌟
To me it was forced because that was the time when the agenda started I think Korea honestly should have been single and Amon should have been the enemy for the series because that was an awesome idea when I go back and watch it I can only watch season 1
What fascinated me the most about the character of Hange is that you very rarely see a "researcher" type character in stories with fantastical settings, even though people in our world have always been driven to understanding the natural world in some capacity. This is especially strange when the world at hand is in constant state of war. Historically, the need for weapons has driven many of new discoveries and inventions for the sake of getting a strategic advantage, as it is shown in Attack on Titan; still, so many Fantasy-Worlds just use Swords, Bows and Arrows for fighting for millenia.
She was my favorite character, but she was wrong and eren was right. The rest of the world wanted the smoke, and would not back down till he gave it to them
Nope. Eren was not right. Eren could have only destroyed the military bases and installations and minimised civilian casualties if he wanted to, but he didn't. He chose the Rumbling mainly because he was disappointed that the world was not an empty vast lands that he envisioned in Armin's book. Eren did it for himself; his friends and the island was just an after-thought he had in order to appease himself into thinking that he was doing the right thing. He chose the Rumbling just so his vision of the outer world being empty was true. But in the end, even Eren admitted that he was a "garden variety idiot who got his hands into power". In the words of Hange, "Genocide is wrong. I'll be damned if we ever justify it somehow."
@@daniaaal yep eren hid his selfish desire of seeing the outside world as a plan sight BEHIND a noble cause of saving paradise JUST LIKE REINER who also hid his selfish desire of gaining respect BEHIND a noble cause of saving the world i dont know people thinks eren did it for his friends when in s4 ep5 reiner literally confesses that he did it for his selfish desire and not for saving the world AND EREN SAYS 'like i thought i am the same as you'
Thank you!! This was such a beautiful analysis of Hanji, you touched on aspects i haven't come across till date. Her character had depth and nuance. One of the biggest reasons AOT is phenomenal.
Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The depth of all the characters (even supporting members of the cast) is definitely a big part of why I love this series so much.
I love her, she is curious, funny and smart, but I don't think she was suited for the role of commander. She was too idealistic to analyze the situations as they presented. Many times, she failed to action. She handled Eren snapping poorly. She was persuing peace, but without any real actions, only speculations. In the end, she just wore a Marvel hero personality to save the world.
She was a human afterall, her frustrated reaction was valid given the dire situation she was facing. Everything had gotten complicated and unpredictable once doors of paradis were thrown open to the unkown outside world. Hanji simply had too much on to deal with singlehandedly.
she was not a devil floch said it perfectly erwin was a devil they needed a devil to handle eren but even that devil who was erwin had it enough and levi gave him a rest
So cool to peel back the other layers in the show to focus on just Hange's perspective like this. I didn't give her too much thought before. But you're spot on about the nuances about her character and how they carry through the series. The depth of even these supporting characters I think is what makes AOT feel so real and complex.
Thank you! I agree 100% that AoT has an awesome supporting cast. There are quite a few I've considered making videos about (in addition to the ones I've already done lol). Anyone in particular that you'd like to see?
Welcome back! Big fan of your Korrasami & Yu-Gi-Oh! videos, if I didn’t mentioned it before. If you take recommendations, are you familiar with Inuyasha or Fullmetal Alchemist? Those are my current interests (with mainly the 2003 FMA as of right now) as of right now.😅
Hey! Glad to see you again! I do indeed take recommendations, so thank you for the suggestions! I've never watched Inuyasha, but I am a fan of Full Metal Alchemist, so I would definitely be down to make a video of it at some point (although I've only ever seen Brotherhood, not the 2003 version).
without Korrasami, we might would take way to long to get other iconic animated couples like them, like Catradora, Lumity, Bubbline, Yasammy and many others, despite the limited time they got on screen, I absolutely love them and when the ending happen I jaw was on the floor almost in disbelieve, is kinda funny now days is consider the more tame of all yuri ships in American cartoons but without these 2 crawling, the rest wouldn't had hit the floor running like they did, and just for that Korra and Asami might be one of the most important pairing in animated history for US. (which Japan have to laugh as they at that time have like GENRES of animes dedicate only to gay representation literally XD, but the important this is that at least US is catching on).
The thing with AoT is, given the context if the story; From the 2000 years of Eldian rule to the heinous Marlyian treatment of an empire who willingfully stopped and seceded to let them be free and then called the entire planet to join them in a genocidal romp. No one in AoT in is morally right but everyone is justified. Personally I think Eren shouldve done all 99% minus Pardis if course. They fucked around and now they find out
I think they really should've made Asami an equalist infiltrant as initially suggested. Would've given her at least some character conflict. Though that means Hiroshi also doesnt get a similar redemption.
Annie is the character that understood the final morale of the story since ep 1, the perspectiveness of morality. She is in trost arc what Eren is at the end saving Ramzi. The only thing she misses is accepting this and its where Armin comes into play. Bertholdt was too shy to be as mature as Annie and Reiner was too crazy, while she faces reality all the time, until she has to isolate herself cause no one else in the show its close to be able to understand even a bit of her (except Armin again). And she is also one of the most scared characters in front of the adversity, and often shes so the most determined, the strongest in a way
Floch had to be made to look as evil as possible because his reasoning was 100% true and all the fans would be on his side rather than the main party if he did not act like an complete asshole. The author had to write him that way for the plot else from the brief moments we saw him, its way out of character for him to act the way he did in later seasons (like an asshole).
I am fr out here listening to sir copesalot the 5th explain why the character that killed over 100 survey corps members in a very VERY twisted way had a good heart. BRUH SHE WAS SMILING THE ENTIRE TIME THERE IS NO DEFENDING THIS ARE YOU BLIND 😭😭😭😭
Dude, she killed one single yo-yo guy. if you forgot all her actions in the trost arc and in the finale, you are blind, not him. Why did you forget about Levi and Hange who bullied the wall cult guy? Or is it something else?
So Korra shows interest in Bolin, and when Mako goes, "Hey, Don't hurt him, he's vulnerable." She insists he's into her, forces herself on him, while he's dating Asami, before starting a relationship with Asami, (were they don't ever talk to each other outside of progressing the plot) which I'm almost positive she does before ending things with Mako. And that's beautiful? Holy crap dude..
@@vetarlittorf1807 So forcefully kissing someone isn't forceful? And she did it in front of Bolin, who was bringing her flowers for the date they were supposed to have?
@@The_Big_Jay She didn't forcefully kiss Mako. It was a consensual kiss. Initiating a kiss is not necessarily forceful. If she had continued after being pushed away, then it would've been forceful. And she wasn't dating Bolin. It was a hangout that Bolin interpreted as a date.
To me, Annie was the smartest warrior. She never fell for the propaganda as you highlighted, she knew the reality from the beginning, she was the one investigating and putting in the effort to find the royal family and to capture Eren. She was the most strategic in battle and even Erwin found it hard to capture her. Lots of people are convinced Zeke is the smartest warrior but he literally fell for /Eren's/ trick 😅 and was eventually betrayed. Even his philosophy regarding the existence of Eldians is childish (to me).
i think zeke fell for eren's trick because of his love for eren not because of his iq or something he literally shed out a tear when eren for the very first time calls him a brother in s4 ep15
Yang is pretty much my favorite although I never was a fan of Bumblebee or watched past Volume 5 or 6. Her stand against Adam was totally awesome too, and I think the payoff for it was pretty good to say the least.
If I was there I would be against Eren killing the entire world but as it was already started, it was pointless to stop it, if they had stopped Eren when even 50% of the humanity was alive, They would be in trouble. And as the future showed that Eren was right. The Boy at the end that fell into the Tree where Eren was buried was going to inherit the Ymir's powers. So they were back to level 1. What Levy squad did was pathetic, how they became friends will Reiner and Annie and Peick. They were war criminals, they should have been punished. they did not deserve the freedom.
But isn't that exactly how humans are? Whatever you do, you might only be able to hold up peace for a temporary amount of time. Even if Eren completely succeeded, as long as humans stay alive, we will always be at each others throats and continue fighting.
6:10 That comment wasn't just an appeal by humanizing the future victim of Trost. Her comments about them getting to sleep in and fuck around is a spiteful jealousy, because she can't have that. She needs the freedom being a loner to do her operations that Reiner rather ruthlessly demanded of her, going into Wall Sina to spy. Everything you say is definitely true, but she was exhausted and angry that Reiner bulked everything on her--even if when they were younger, it was simply because boys couldn't get into Wall Sina as easily as girls, when it came to the MP checkpoints. If you take the games as canon too, which I feel they are in their small moments, the characters were all trying to engage with her, and she actually did enjoy the rare moments she could do things with them. But, for the most part, she had to stay away. She likely did feel it was for the best, at some level. The most tragic part is she was FORCED to become a Warrior. Reiner was coerced, yes, but his mother never forced him, and we get the sense that was the case for Bertholdt as well. But she was abandoned, only to be found by an abuser, who only repented after she had already signed up for an official death date for his comfort. Anyway, no, she's not a villain. She's an antagonist. Not all antagonists are villains, and not all antagonists stay antagonists--just like protagonists like Eren don't always stay protagonists.
It made me so sad reading the comments below on the original recap of what happened after Korra. Things like ''mental illness'' being compared to bisexuality. Thanks for your contribution. I'm a little more hopeful.
Some AOT fans need to get some brain cells and maybe re-watch this show. Annie is a phenomenal character it’s actually embarrassing to see people still hating on her with the same old excuses. “She yoyo-ed a corpse-“ it happened all the way back in season 1 to make the female titan seem more menacing, get over it. “B-But the Levi squad-“ they’re npc’s that were literally trying to kill her. “She’s so violent and cold hearted-“ she clearly dissociates as a coping mechanism when she does the horrible shit she’s forced to do. I’m not saying she’s an angel, but she was literally raised by an abusive father; cruelty was beaten into her, and all she ever knew is war, but somehow it's HER fault for not being sane? Oh, and for the millionth time, other characters in this show did much more terrible stuff, why does she get so much hate in particular?
Because all of Annie’s “flaws” are written in a clear and accessible way and even in a shocking format (for example, a yo-yo), while the advantages are not visible on the surface and need careful analysis. Viewers are more likely to perceive information that makes the greatest impression, rather than information that needs to be thought about.
