I'm a mixed media Artist working from my home studio on my family's dairy farm. Based in Cumbria, North West England. My own artworks are mainly landscapes of the Lake District.
Here on RU-vid, I post occasional videos, mostly beginners' art tutorials and demonstrations. I also, from time to time, talk about growing my art channel and selling artwork online, etc.
To see what I'm up to in my studio, you can follow me on Instagram @callylawsonart
Love your unbiased Comments On Viviva Meditate w/ Art Kit. Will share with the Lady I bought this for after gifted. I'm a fine artist from age 5. Many special schools I went to over yrs and college twice for art. And used to show my Art in NYC. Was looking for something for the Lady who commissioned Art from me. Your video Will totally help her when trying to use it!! I think I was the 2nd to 3rd person who contributed yesterday. Knew about it for a while now. THANK YOU!!
Cally- P.S. I bought 9 of the colorsheet books with their initial Funding and 2 of the engraved Faux leather bound cases/ books. Been their Fan since the beginning. One Case for my Goddaughter / Niece. Want to spread the Joy of what they're doing.
Reverse coloring, if I remember correctly, is basically just making the line art for a pre-colored picture. Sometimes they’re very abstract so you can find your own picture in the mess, but these ones they included seem pretty straight forward.
Hi, thanks for watching. That was what I was thinking. However, with the delicate illustrations included in the book, I'm not sure I'd want to line them.
@@CallyLawson true I would be worried about “ruining” them too, with how small and cute they are, I suppose it’s also possible to just paint or doodle around them as well.
Thanks greatly Cally for this scene of a canel barge, I enjoyed watching you explaining your process of getting the right subject in placed correctly ie barge. Thanks again for sharing and the colours detail and depth are brilliantly created, thanks stay safe and healthy
Hi Philip, thanks for watching. And thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated, I'm glad you liked it. I really enjoyed painting this scene as it is so close to home for me. Enjoy your painting and drawing 😊
Good morning, Cally! This Viviva kit might not be my style, but it is well put together, well made and nicely presented. And as always, it is an absolute pleasure to listen to you sharing your thoughts on art and art materials. Thank you very much. Cheers from California! ❤
Hi, I'm not sure what you're asking 🤔 There are no tax funded buy- outs here. We aren't selling the farm, just the cattle. We are changing to something less time consuming and not as physically tough. It’s just an age and lifestyle choice. Thanks for watching.
@@CallyLawson okay. In very socialist countries the gvmt is forcing the sales of cattle. Usually from the very ppl that voted for them. Which is Rhee hilarious part. Which is why I asked. If it was a forced buy out I'd know to stick up on dried milk.
Hi, good question. I do love them, but Derwent have stopped making them! It doesn't seem fair to create videos with a product that's unavailable. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much, what a lovely compliment. I love their drawings, so full of character and life. I really enjoyed doing this, it's a while since I took the time to just sit and draw, I need to do it more often. Thank you for watching 😊
Love seeing this as I have seen this Painting in real life! Love Degas! The original is a Pastel drawing and so would love to have seen you do it in pastel? Cheers
Hi, thanks for watching. I haven't seen the real thing, but I have seen some of Degas' other works in the national gallery, and I love them. Sorry, I never use pastels as I am asthmatic and I can't cope with the dust.
Hi ! I don t know which size to use , the XL or the small ones. Because i feel that the result in the stroke style is different. Or do they give the same result ?
Hi, thanks for watching. I would choose the xl if you work on a large scale with big sheets of paper. For most average size work, you can use the standard size. You can make similar marks with both, especially by lying the block down and using the side to drag along the paper. With the standard, you can get a larger range of colours in one tin. Whichever you choose, I hope you have fun with them! 😃
Thank you for this. But it sure does take trial and error with how much pressure and so on. I think also makes a difference what kind of charcoal you use.
Yes, absolutely. It is good fun, but sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. The amount of paint, drying time, pressure, etc. are very difficult to replicate. I use scraps of card that I have spare, I don't like to pay for good paper for these if they are going to end up in the bin! Thanks for watching 😊
I love the vibrancy of the dye-based watercolors but I have found that not being able to use it like a traditional pigmented based watercolor isn't worth the brilliance. I like the 'lift-ability' and spread-ability of traditional watercolors and that's just not fully possible with dye-based products. It's both a strength and a weakness, depending on how you work with watercolors.
Yes, I agree. I love my Artists quality watercolour paints, my favourite are Sennelier. However these are great fun and very portable. For the price they are good for sketching. I particularly recommend them for Children who will like the bright colours. Thanks for watching 😊
Did you have any issues formatting your e-book version? How did you keep the stanzas separated in your poems for reflowable text? Did you include images in your poetry e-book? If so, how did you format those for the EPUB?
Hi, thanks for watching. I didn’t have any problems with the formatting, I used Canva for that. I added my images on Canva, then flattened them when saving.
@@CallyLawsonThanks for replying! Does that mean the pages were all image files? Were they fixed format for the ebook? I’m trying to do reflowable text. Thanks again,
Hi Cally, thankyou for that bit (but really important helpful) bit of advice. I will definitely be buying these, but I'll probably wait until Prime Week which is about 3 weeks away. I hope that Derwent expand their XL range of colours. Inktense are one of the most innovative art products that Derwent have ever released and I really enjoy using them. Thanks again Cally for your helpful hint, take care .😊
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found it useful. It would be good if they brought out more colours in time, I agree. I hope you get a good deal on Prime Week. Have fun with your Inktense 😃
I have just published my first poetry book and was looking for other poets on RU-vid to follow and learn from when I stumbled across this video. Thank you so much for taking the time to record it! I'm heading over to Kindle Unlimited to read and leave a review with my morning coffee! 🙂
Hi, thanks for watching. Thank you, that's helpful for others reading this who may just have the previous instructions. It seems a long time since I did this video. I haven't really used the thickener much since then.
Cally, you make it seem so easy! I love those cypress trees, it’s like they vibrate against the sky. His style can be recognized from the Moon 😊. Thank you for the inspiration! ❤
Thank you 😊 and thanks for watching. You are right about his style! I really enjoyed doing this, as you could probably tell, I am a big admirer of Van Gogh. Have a lovely weekend 😃
So happy I selected this particular lamb and this particular artist to follow! Usually my first attempts are rather rough and ugly, but because you took the time to give us a full presentation and many details, my first effort at this lamb is successful and actually something I will give to a friend for Easter. I am ever so thankful, and I will be looking forward to other lessons you offer.
Hi, thank you very much for your lovely feedback, and thank you for watching 😊 I am glad that you found it useful. I hope you have a nice and peaceful Easter and that your friend likes their gift 😀
