Would this work with my cocker spaniel. If I'm in the garden he listens, if I'm down a double fenced path he listens. But on grass or in woods around lakes well anywhere his ears turn off
Oh wow this was informative and made so much sense. Helped me feel more confident to carry on what ive been trialling with my own 4. 3 are peaceful but the french bulldog x Norfolk terrier puppy we rescued has come along and changed the energy up in yhe house hold. This video helped tons as he naturally has a brain running at 400mph. So definitely trying these tips out and to carry on enforcing the mind stimulation over the physical we have already started with him. ❤
This was amazing to watch. Amelia you have a complete understanding of these dogs on a soul level. I have 4 dogs, our latest rescue is a french bulldog x Norfolk terrier and he is my learning curve lol. So I'm here to pick up tips !!! Please keep sharing these videos, I can't stress enough how amazing you are with these dogs and helping their owners just as much. ❤❤
Hi, our scenario may well be common, but struggling to find any training tips. (Dog now 16 months old) Great recall before winter, but when winter hit we chose predominant footpath walking, only off lead in that time a minimal amount of times. Though he still listens at the park to come in my direction, he barks excessively and will not come back for lead reattachment. Need some quick wins to get back what I had.. treats are not really working, praise when I do finally get hold of him, but it’s not sustainable and ruining any time off the lead now.
True...We're ready, as can be.People think this is a planned joke for all people, not to take this seriously..I'd heed, this ,seriously. We're in the last Days. God bless and cover all.
Love it! I love how dedicated Indy's mom is and I love that it's such a gentle and smart approach to helping them thrive. I hope we get to see an update!
Thank you for this tip Amelia. Is it best to start them off on a long line? As my dog would probably run straight after the treat when I threw it away from her.
Ive got an imporant question, i use break as release command for a stay but if she needs to find something its “cherche”, that means she needs to find it, can we use more than one release command or just one (if this isnt clear tell me cuz i also get lil brain error reading this)
I would disagree with this method. Seems like you’re rewarding the golden retrievers bad behavior. Notice the dog coming back to you. I would suggest having them learn sit/down/place and stay first. Do not feed them or give them a treat while you’re eating. Reward them after. And never give house food that you’re eating as a treat. Strictly dog food and treats.
Actually to assess whether something is rewarding you look at whether a behaviour has increased. Because we can see that over the course of the session the unwanted behaviour decreased, we know that it’s not rewarding the begging :) the staying on the mat is the behaviour that increases so that is the behaviour being reinforced. Remember that reinforce means to increase :)
This was really helpful Amelia. It was really helpful to see you training a dog in the situation, that is new to training. I have watched so many other videos of trainers that use a dog that is already trained and makes it look so easy. With your video it was really refreshing to see you training and overcoming situations and explaining how you overcome them. Thank you. Really looking forward to seeing more videos 🐾☺️
Thank you. My dog will always come, even if she is playing with other dogs, which is a massive pull for her. But the one time is when she is after a hare, or deer, or cat, she doesn't seem ot hear. Do you think your tip will help with this prob?
Amelia, I love your videos. I am trying to adopt a dog (1.5years old) from friends, because they have to much in their plates and they have already 2 older dogs with them. I try your tricks and it work really good with the dog. But when my friend and I are together the dog just don't listen anymore and it shuts down his brain. He walks really fine with them and it is OK with me, but today it was nightmare. He looks like a wild animal 🙈... Do you know what could case this behavior? And how to make it better?
Interesting video! Thanks for explaining. One curious question, though: Could you talk a bit more about the time frame it takes to teach (and the dog to learn)? From the video, it looks like the achievement is done in under ten minutes - which I suppose (from experience) it isn’t… What would a realistic expectation be? I’ve had dogs as a child and I am just looking at this as I am thinking about taking in a dog in the future…
Brilliant video with loads of useful training tricks. I'd love to see a video on dealing with nuisance barking in the home, thanks! Can't wait for the next video 🐕💕
We have a rescue from a kill shelter in Hungary that has obviously has had a terrible life before coming here to us. He was found as a street dog, but He is scarred from nose to tail, so we assume, because the scars are on legs, face, ears, stomach, but not on the top half, that he was used to train young dogs for fighting. He is a very placid dog, is greedy for love and is ok with big dogs. But little dogs make him very anxious. Not great when a close family member has a Yorkie. He is always muzzled on walks and has a yellow warning lead. I say, we, he is my sons dog & he has done wonders with bringing him out of his shell & trusting people. But we can’t trust him around little dogs. He was adopted previous to us. It was a huge mess. The person approved to adopt actually wasn’t really going to be the owner, that turned out to be a lady in a wheel chair with 6 other dogs. Our boy is about German Shepherd sized and looks to be a Bavarian Hound mix, Anyway, another Walker let their off lead sausage dog go up to the pack of dogs and yap in their faces, our dog reacted and shook it, causing the sausage dogs death. Thankfully the courts didn’t give a more serious sentence than harness, muzzle and returning him to the adoption centre to be rehomed. Anyway, it’s amazing how many dog walkers either don’t understand the significance of a yellow lead, or think that because of the muzzle everything is fine. And because our boy has very visible scars on his face and ripped ears, people do want to ask about him out of, understandable, concern for his current well being or curiosity. They don’t take into consideration that a) a big dog can still do a lot of damage to a little dog even without using its teeth. They have big paws too. & b) The main problem is their dog approaching ours that causes him extreme anxiety. He was terrified, he shook, hid behind us or if they got too close tried to pounce, when we first got him & has on two occasions been sick on a walk because of too many dogs in that area. Like I said, my son has been amazing, he hasn’t cured the anxiety completely, but it’s 90 x better. So thank you for this video. More dog owners need to be aware of what yellow leads are for. And to understand there are good reasons why an owner with a yellow lead may appear rude by not stopping to chat or will be too focused on their dogs comfort whilst they pass. It’s not because we are rude, we just have to respond to our dogs behaviour which essentially keeps all the dogs safe and comfortable. ❤
