The NFC South might be the weirdest division in the NFL. Three of these teams are transplants from the old NFC West (yes, the famous Western cities of New Orleans, Atlanta, and Charlotte) while the Buccaneers came from the Central. They're certainly in a more sensible geographic position now. While many know of the NFCE's streak of 19 consecutive seasons without a repeat winner, the NFCS had a similar run from 2002 to 2013. The first team to defend their division crown was the 2014 Panthers-with a record of 7-8-1. The next year the team would finish 15-1 before losing the SB to Denver, and they've fallen on hard times since then. The Saints had a miserable history through 2005 (with only one playoff win) before building some solid teams under Sean Payton and Drew Brees. The Falcons are best known for blowing SB51 to New England and Tom Brady, who would be lured to Tampa four years later. He would give the Bucs their second title in 2020, despite being the worst NFL franchise by winning percentage! Overall, this division is far from the NFL's best, but with no team having more than seven division titles in 22 years, it has offered the most parity.
I really love these type of videos because it’s so important to see how far the NFL has come. Back then, the Patriots were a poverty franchise. Even the Jets had more division titles than the Pats. But when Brady happened, they had the most AFC East titles. It’s kinda crazy to see how details like this are so important.
