I have a clone of this amp and it's amazing. Mine even sounds good at lower volumes. Better when the master volume is above 4, of course, but between 1 and 4 still gives usable sounds.

I'm liking this because I think a high gain amp should have also a tight crisp sound when quieter this gives the tone a wonderful ring to it that sustains, and you can really dig in and work with it. Lovely.

Picked one up last summer used but in mint shape for 450 bucks. It’s the only tube amp I’ll ever need. Loud enough for gigs but quiet enough for home use. Super-versatile, speaker outs, DI, looks cool, portable etc. 3,000-4,000 boutique amps are cool and maybe realistic for professional musicians or blues-lawyers, but for regular blue-collar folks the DSL checks all the boxes. Great video btw👍
@RayPlaysGuitar
@RayPlaysGuitar День назад
I agree. And pund for pound, the DSL will hold its own. Better than anything in its class and will give boutique amps a run for their money. Thanks for watching!

And I can understand why you feel this way. I brought mine to a gig the other night. Was talking to a fellow local pro guitarist and asked him what amp he uses and he said “the one you got, the DSL40” and then we proceeded to talk about how much we both love that amp. Wish I would have discovered it sooner. Better late than never though. Thanks for watching!

I like the tone of my dsl40c stock speaker broken in better than dsl40cr which has a frequency that I didn't like. Put a ts9 or boss super overdrive in front of your dsl40c is all you need

Agreed! I am also not a fan of the Celestial V-type speaker. I am finding that I mostly use the crunch mode on the clean channel at edge of breakup and then use an OD pedal for "more". Thanks for watching!
@adamwatson6916
@adamwatson6916 8 дней назад
Both speakers are kind of crappy . The 70/80 being better than the V Type is a pretty low Bar . Creamback M and Creamback H are much better with the DSl 40 amps . The G1265 Heritage is another . Extension cabs with G12H30 Heritages also sound amazing with these amps m The 70/80 sounds like a swarm of angry bees .
@Alfonzo862
@Alfonzo862 8 дней назад
@adamwatson6916 I don't want to offended you but the creamback 65 is dark and too bassy speaker and the creamback h is a heavy speaker and has an orientation towards a vintage 30 that I don't like either. I don't know about the heritage speaker. I like the 70/80 and it sounds great broken in, I am talking years which sounds great on low volume and turned up even better with a strat, less Paul or sg 61 with a ts9, ts808 or boss sd1 in front. No bee swarm here, but that depends on the player and what you like

Wonderful song! I must say though, on the main A riff you are over-emphasizing the second G, or the last note of the riff. Listen closely to the record. He is barely hitting that note if not hitting it at all. Instead of picking that note maybe do a pull-off from the A before it. But don't pick it with equal strength as the rest of the riff. Listen again to the record. I just did.
@RayPlaysGuitar
@RayPlaysGuitar 24 дня назад
I hear what you are talking about. I’ve listened to some live versions where sometimes the last G is clearly pronounced and sometimes it’s like an after thought or like you said he barely plays it at all. But that’s a detail I never really noticed before. Thanks for pointing that out and for watching!

I have no 1st finger ,lost the tendon that controls making a fist of my pointing finger, the rest are fine . Now let me be real with much modesty, I've never used pride in my music , I've been playing for about 40 years so I'm familiar with all the craziest, most ridiculous taps ,double taps, sweeping across five strings ,using scales, modes, diminished scales that would normally destroy the integrity of the piece of music. But through expireance, hours and hours and hours of making horrible racket at the age of ...about 8-15 years of age ,I learned how to emphasis a note or two in scales that brings out that mysterious hell yea . Unfortunately a skill saw found it necessary to cut half way into my left hand, cutting two tendons and leaving lots of scare tissue causing stiffness I'm all my fingers . But i tell myself that I'm a musician, so I must find that way . I've got 9 fingers still so I play . Any advice to help me get a better spread on the fretboard would be a blessing . 2 frets are now my comfortable hammer ons ect. I've learned a lot of ways to use my thumb and picking hand fingers for making them sus 7 's and a simple bar chord . Dude you play very fluent, beautiful teaching skills so I was hoping you could do a lesson without the use of that nagging pointing finger . I don't think people realize how important that finger is . Mine is just in the way now. In our shared extra emotion I ask this of you .. your friend Dave in GA. Thank you for your showmanship in helping us to rock into blues of all guitar styles
@RayPlaysGuitar
@RayPlaysGuitar 25 дней назад
Hey Dave, really sorry to hear about your finger. That is such a tragedy. However I do love your attitude - you're still a musician with 9 fingers! So I was just trying to play without my first finger. Damn it's difficult! I am primarily a three finger player, keeping my pinky curled and out of the way most of the time but I will use my pinky if I have to. But playing 3-fingers without the index is far more challenging that it may seem. Players like Mike Stern and Steve Morse had to "relearn" the guitar after experiencing physical problems. I'm sure you've seen vids of guys shredding guitar with their feet. If there is a will there is a way. So, do a lesson vid without using my first finger? I think that might be well worth doing for all players. Like you said, people don't realize how important that first finger is. Be sure to subscribe so you'll be notified when the three-finger video gets released. Thanks for watching Dave!

I see used 40CR's listed for around $600. I see a lot of 40C's for $450-550. That's why I was surprised to start seeing 40C's for under $400. The first DSL40C that caught my eye had a white wrap and sold for $380. A few days later I saw a black one for the same price so I bought that one. Then a few days later I found one for $320. This all happened within the last 4 weeks. Thanks for tuning in Pete!

I found the DSL100HR head for $500 . I had about 2 years playing on it and had to have a little work done on it. New tubes an the work was about $300. So Im only in to it for $800 total to this day and its a KILLER amp! He replaced all the capacitors in it and its like new again. I nearly bought this amp you have. I was happy I waited. Both are great amps though. I just like bigger amps more. But it sounds great and I am sure that amp is more than you need for home.
@RayPlaysGuitar
@RayPlaysGuitar Месяц назад
Sweet deal on that head. I wish Marshall did a DSL40 in a head cabinet and made a matching 1x12 extension cab. The 40C is way more than I need for home and has been holding up plenty well on gigs so far. I bet your 100 water sound amazing! Thanks for tuning in!
@DreidMusicalX
@DreidMusicalX Месяц назад
@@RayPlaysGuitar Yeah I ran through a few speakers in the cabinet before it sounded the way I wanted it. The amps I found out do really nice with a Creamback H and a V30 mixed into a 2X12 cabinet. The Marshall Cabinet came with a those seventy 80 speakers and they are so shrill. It always sounded like something was loose rattle or something with annoying highs and EQ could not get rid of.

The DSL40C had a few bugs... Which we're addressed in the DSL40CR. (I think the C has a 70/80 speaker? The CR has the newer V Type Celestion). I love my CR. I use it as a practice Amp. Mostly I go through my Fractal Audio Axe Fx 3. But sometimes I just want that classic Marshall roar!

I challenge you to google "electric violin." There isn't even any wood. Why is that?
@RayPlaysGuitar
@RayPlaysGuitar Месяц назад
Problem with amplifying a violin is you run into feedback issues at higher volume levels. Same problem happens with hollow-body guitars, uncontrollable feedback once amplified. The solution for guitar was the soid-body guitar. But if you made a violin out of solid wood it would be too heavy to play properly. So other materials are often used to make electric violins. You can put a pickup on a violin made of wood and it will usually have more of a natural sound whereas bodyless electric violins usually sound more "electric" to me, much like the difference between an amplified acoustic guitar and an electric guitar.
