Fun fact, the actor who plays the homophobic prince brother is also a gay man. I noticed you swooned a bit over Henry’s email to Alex in Austin. The book itself has so many beautiful, romantic emails strewn throughout the middle section of the book. It’s worth reading it for the emails alone.

The show explores many character relationships but I think Stefan and Damon's complicated brother relationship is the one I find most interesting. Their personalities play off each other so well. Stefan has a very muted personality most of the time but his demeanor is most exaggerated, emotional, and humorous in his one-on-one interactions with Damon. Damon tends to be magnetic and witty in all his interactions but his most grounded moments are with Stefan. I just love their conversations, especially the casual scenes we get in between the action. So needless to say I like this episode a lot.
While we all were shocked at the Lexi thing - I never understood why everyone fawned over her. She was there for part of one episode. She was controlling of Stefan and abused Damon in his own home. Most guys would have tossed her ass out. That doesn't excuse what he did in any way but even on first watch I thought there has to be a reason for the animosity between them. I still liked Damon best LOL

I made the same assumption about another reactor and he came back and said yes but it's an edit and over the course of the full version those are just the parts I left in for the edit. Dunno. Guess that could be why it seems like he's always talking over it and not paying attention. The point is they put in a lot of time and effort to do the videos and upload, sometimes learning as they go, so we should probably cut them a little slack on that.

Damon is a menace and an evil, raging asshole in this episode, can't deny. This behavior is distinctly anti-aura and I NEVER forgive him for killing Lexi. And yes, I'm still a Damon stan. Judge me if you will.
Many wonder if Adam is also dead. In the Japanese book from the 80’s this is loosely based on, the main character was alive. Though as you see in this version, Adam seems unwell at times, because in the book, the ghosts were slowly sapping his life force when he was around them. It’s an exploration of the metaphysical which doesn’t work if the main character is dead. Though the director stated that “ultimately whether you believe Adam is alive or a ghost is up to your perception of the film.” It’s not about what is real or not, but “it’s about the emotional feeling you get from it” The director also has said in interviews that what can be left to interpretation is whether Adam was actual interacting with ghosts or “imagining what a relationship would be like with people he lost or reflecting on different paths he couldn’t have taken in his life, such as the relationship he might have had with Harry if he’d let him in”. Andrew Scott said “maybe it’s both, time not being linear .. to bring the memory alive is not as absurd as we may think”. Suggested that Adam wasn’t dead but in some metaphysical realm at times perhaps? We will never truly know. To me it is much more devastating if Adam is alive. That leaves us feeling entirely bereft.
Heavy on the Rocky Horror Picture Show vibes for the theatre coven! Vampires honestly have the most reason to be camp as hell, I love how dramatic they all are. Even Louis in his own way! You might've missed it, but I think you confused the older looking vampire as the coven leader, but Armand is the leader, which is why he was the one to approach Louis and introduce him and Claudia to the coven. It's also why Louis tried calling him "Maître" at the end there because it means "master", but Armand told him to just call him Armand.
You will see why Lestat left France later. These vampires are bitches. They're awful. You will also see why Lestat didn't tell Louis and Claudia about them, other than that they are "vicious".

It's so fitting that you watched 'Rocky Horror' just before starting this season. There are a lot of similarites. Camp, horror and cults. But no 'Time Warp' dance unfortunately.
I'm a bit late to the party but am really enjoying the first part so far. It's always great to see someone grasp most of what's going on (It's impossible to catch everything on your first watch and if you're not familiar with the books). Luthien who Aragorn sing's about is indeed not a past lover but one of his (and Arwen's) ancestors. She was an elf-woman of the first age (LotR takes place in the third age) so over 6400 years ago. She was the daughter of the elf-king Elu Thingol and the Maia Melian (Maia are like demigods or angels, Gandalf is a Maia as are Sauron and the Balrog) and the most beautiful being in the world with great power escpecially through her singing voice. Luthien fell in love with Beren, a human man. Her father did not approve and appointed him for a nearly impossible task if he wanted to marry her but together and through a lot of difficulties they did it. But at the end Beren died and Luthien told him to wait for her in the west. He went to the halls of Mandos, where all men go for a short time after death and before they leave the world. Luthien died shortly after and begged Mandos with her beautiful singing to give them a second chance together. He was moved by her song and let her decide if she wanted to go to the Undying lands to live an immortal life where she could forget all the hardship of her life but where Beren could not follow or if she wanted to go back to Middle Earth with Beren and live a human life with him and die at the end. She chose the latter and they went back and had a son together (Dior). After a life together they both died as humans and went beyond this world. It's the greatest love story of Tolkien's world and it represents the love he and his wife Edith had for each other. The names Beren and Luthien are engraved in Tolkien's tomb stone. Dior had a daughter (Elwing) who was the mother of Elrond and Elros. Elrond is Arwen's father. Elros was Aragorn's ancestor, so him and Arwen are very distantly related (like 60 generations or so removed).

When Damon told her to leave, he wasn't being totally heartless. He was telling her to leave because she was bleeding and the urge to feed was something he had to fight to control. He did not want to lose it and feed on her. Also, what's she bitching about now? Stefan called him as said he needed Damon's help. Damon could have said get lost but he didn't. Yes, he created the mess to begin with but he didn't just walk away and say 'your problem.'
no he could always control his feeding he even stated unlike stefan he can stop because of the simple fact he likes being vampire he feeds when he wants and wont if he doesnt

The way they weave the different plot threads together is superbly done - and watching the Ents go to war is absolutely thrilling. Superb filmmaking. Enjoyed your reaction enormously!
Amazing to see on a big screen if you ever get the chance, especially seeing Helm's Deep. Also you'd have to be made of stone if you didn't cry a time or two. There have been videos about the positive masculinity of Aragorn and it shows tenderness between men without it being joked about. I thought you were going to break the arms of your chair at one point, they definitely are stressful.
Anne Rice, who wrote the novels and created the characters, decided what powers vampires have, and they grow in power with age in her lore. RIP Anne Rice.
