Powerhouse of the Cell (formerly Primo Science) aims to achieve two goals:
1) To teach science though animations: From my 5+ years of tutoring high school students, I found that it was often challenging to visualize biological and chemical processes through a textbook or blackboard. Powerhouse serves to create a visual resource for students and educators to use to facilitate learning and improve performance.
2) To teach science through experimentation: After doing research in college, my peers and I realized that it was challenging to translate the material learned from classes into the laboratory. While courses often focus on already-discovered processes and mechanisms, science in the real world (not just in the laboratory) requires creative thinking and critical analysis. Powerhouse teaches the stories of famous biological discoveries to help students expand their view of science.

I'm just a housewife and grandma who's been fascinated by CRISPR Cas9 since the beginning. I even read Code Breaker. I'm so excited to now hear that this is being used to cure sickle cell, blindness, and deafness. Amazing.
Hey bro I don't know how to contact you so I will try it here. I have a VERY important presentation in school and its also about CRISPR-Cas9 so I had the question if you could send me the animations you did in this video so I can put them into my powerpoint? That would skyrocket my grade and help me a lot. is there a way I could dm you on instagram or something so we could figure a way out how you can send it to me? Thank you for your help.
Thank you so much for the love and support! More videos are definitely on the way - each video just takes upwards of 200 hours to finish so the process unfortunately takes longer than any of us would like haha
Dammn that last sentence "maybe that scientist who will accomplish these feats in the future is watching this video right now." felt really emotional for some reason. Thanks
This “God mentality” from the generation that thinks making eunics of men somehow turns them into actual women. But a very good vide to describe what science is doing today.
love how you simplify topics, it is great video! Sad to see you've stopped making them, but thanks for all the awesome content. Good luck with everything you're doing now!
Hearing from viewers like you makes all the hard work worth it. And I haven't stopped permanently - each video just takes hundreds of hours to make, so I've been working on my most recent video for over a year now. Hope I can get it out within the next few months. More videos coming soon!
This was such a useful video and explained things so well but I'm a bit confused as to when the ZFNs were developped because when hes speaking he says 1:20 it was developped in 1994 but on the actual screen it says 1:26 "1985: discovery of zinc finger nuceases". I would love it if someone could pls explain it to me.
Good catch! Zinc finger nucleases were _discovered_ in 1985, but they were first _used_ in the context of genome editing in 1994. It's kind of like how microwaves (the form of energy) were discovered in the 1800s, but they didn't invent the microwave oven until the 1940s.
Thanks for your feedback! I unfortunately cannot change the volume of the music on this already-uploaded video, but I'll keep that in mind for any future videos.

Great question! I actually don't know of any beginner books about CRISPR-Cas9 itself (will update this comment if I find any), but "The Code Breaker" is a wonderful book that goes through the history of the discovery of gene editing technology and is relatively straightforward to understand. If you get the chance to read it, let me know what you think!
bro u making videos plz need a lot , i have 60K followers on insta ,its a physics page ,i will promote your videos there .plz dont stop making videos your teaching way is best .
best biology channel to explain what teachers explain in 2hrs class ,bro explained in 15 mins,am your new subscriber , i will surely promote your page on insta
Wow, your comment made my day! I'm delighted that my videos are helping you grasp biology concepts efficiently. Thank you for subscribing and sharing the love on Instagram!
Will definitely make more! Each video takes hundreds of hours to make, and I've been working on my latest video for over a year now. Hope to get it out within the next few months, so stay tuned :)

Thanks for your kind words! It's fantastic to hear that my videos are helping you understand biology better. Definitely feel free to share with friends and colleagues who might find this helpful :)
Beginning to go into , interfering with natural processes. Not advisable. “ Gain of function” for power of humans for financial gain or weaponise our DNA as they require. Not ours to be messing with means , DNA is a random with many variables . Ability to go there is not advised. But once the ability has been spread, like Guns,. . Tool or weapon, or profit use likely to become abuse.
We have, say 28 billion cells esch with a complete set of DNA. CRISPR is the method to cut out deffective Gens in the DNA of one Cell and replace it with a new Gen. How will thereafter all 28 billion -1 update their DNA? I have no clou as the multitude of humans have. Will appreciate some factual insight. Thanks
Most understandable and clear explanation of CRISPR. This makes me want to take Chem 177! And I had no idea David Liu's lab is doing this cutting edge research...amazing. CCB is so cut off from what the Medical School and Broad labs are doing. :(
Thanks for your kind words, this really means a lot to me. Yes, super exciting stuff is happening at the Broad and HMS, but that doesn't take away at all from the neat work happening in the Jacobsen group and the rest of CCB. Thanks for all you do :)
I'm grateful for your kind words! I definitely am in the process of making more. Have been working on my latest video for over a year now; hope I can get it out soon!
My main goal with every video is to emphasize the big picture, since that so often seems to get lost in textbooks and lectures. I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed! Please feel free to share with anyone who might find these videos helpful.
You're very welcome! It takes a long time, but it's viewers like you who make it all worth it. Feel free to share with any friends or colleagues who might find this helpful!
