Talk Dirt to Me is a passion project and something we feel is a necessity. We break down myths surrounding farming, share how we got started, financing, hot topics in the industry, and much more. All done in an uncensored, no holds barred way.
If the boat is 2 months out, you'll have to eat the random dude first. Because a dog won't last you 2 months, and once the dog is gone, it's you or him. So you couldn't even sleep while he's alive. So random dude first, then your dog, you'll have to go through both to last 2 months. Especially with no refrigeration. 😂
Pendleton Or is a small town in Eastern Oregon. Rodeo grounds is the biggest thing there. Also where Pendleton Blankets have been made since the fur trade days.
Yes, I did hear about that. Really unfortunate & I often worry about that because we have cattle and horses all on the same property. We don’t use feed with monensin often, but when we have it, I take extra precautions to be sure horses can’t get into it. You hear about cases like this occasionally, but I’m not sure that I’ve ever heard of so many dead horses on one farm/ranch.
@HurricaneCreekFarms Same reason I won't have anything monensin for my goats, afraid the horses could end up with some. I know decoquinate is supposed to be safe, but I'm even afraid to have any of it around.
I had a drone spray my roundup ready sugar beets this year. The custom applicator said his drone sprays 3 gallons per acre. I had 3 feet tall weeds so I didn’t think the roundup would do anything to those big weeds, but especially since we only had 3 GPA per acre to work with. I had them put roundup in the tank mix anyway to hopefully get the smaller weeds in the field. The drone knocked the shit out of those big weeds. The spray completely killed them. I was shocked. I think drones work so well because the downward air movement from the drone rotor blades.
I thought lobbyist basically influence (pay off) the politicians to get the policy written in their favor. They aren't the ones writing policy. I don't want to be a politician, but I'd be happily on staff as an advisor or something like that.
@@talkdirttomepodcast Payoffs and bribes is what mostly goes on these days, and they call it lobbying because, well, they can't be honest about what they are really doing. But lobbying in its purest form is advocation.
Longtime fan of the show, first time watching on RU-vid. I listen on spotify every Monday morning heading to work. I worked on row crop farms for years when I was younger and I'm in my 4th year as a first generation cattle farmer. Talk Dirt is a great tool for anyone in or looking to get in farming/ranching so maybe they can avoid some of the life lessons the rest of us have learned the hard way. For those on the fence wanting to get in.I started at 38 years old with 2 heifers I'm currently run 13 head and have paid cash for everything but land. It's not much but it's paid for and I keep growing every year. Northeast Arkansas is listening, keep up the good work guys.
Thank you and keep after it. I (Bobby Lee) am not much different than you, I have my day job, but I have the cows for a side hustle that keeps me busy and out of trouble. At the end of the year, we hope it provides a little extra cash and a nice way to write off some expenses!
Hey guy’s, love the podcast. Huge fan of Hurricane Creek Farms on RU-vid and have come to look forward to this show each week. God Bless from western Maryland.
The agrivolt...whatever it was 😂. Grazing sheep under them? I know their are some paying people to either graze sheep there or to manage their sheep grazing there. Sheep is the only thing I've heard so far. Goats would jump onto the panels, cows would scratch themselves on any of it. So sheep to limit the mowing required.
I have, but the bulk feed we get delivered is pretty cheap. The investment we'd have to make in facilities and equipment to do it all ourselves, not to mention the time, would take a long time to pay off unless we really scaled up the size of our operation. Just doesn't make sense for us to do anything like that right now. It's awfully easy to make one phone call and have cheap feed delivered to our bins a day or two later.
Florida has a master sheep and goat course, so probably cattle as well. The sheep and goat course is being offered both online and in-person, I plan to do the online this fall. The in-person is local to me, but is several individual days, and I'm unlikely to be able to get them all off work. Incidentally, I was at a small ruminant pasture workshop earlier today, which is where I found out about the master course.
1 of my Favorite Farmers, a good gentleman for some sweet girl. I know I was born to be a farmer, so I was excited for the show. Companion planting helps bugs stay away, in gardening. Not sure about acerage farming. I like Organics
Hey guys just wanted to say I love y’alls show. I’m a poultry, cattle and hay farmer in north Alabama and listen to the podcast every week. Just wanted to give Bobby Lee a big Roll Tide. Hope you get a break in the weather to get some hay up soon. Keep up the good work men.
Fascinating conversation! Had a PBR & listened to the whole thing 🍻 Wisconsin here, pest pressure (esp earwigs?? Wtf) has been off the chain this season. Hope you all have a good season 🙏
They are the asphalt world also now. They purchased The Wirtgen Group 5-7 years ago. In some products with the fall of other companies, profits are big on some products.
Chief Tractor Officer Boy = Deere’s Bud Light. If the CTO Boy shows up on our farm my wife will have him babysit the kids. Deere has embarrassed all of us Deere Equipment Owners. - Doug in Iowa
There are several books around here carroll county that let there hands use there equipment and rent there own land and farm it on there own time with there equipment for part of there pay
I don't totally agree with you on the subject of driver licenses and registrations due to the rate of traffic crashes I have observed caused by someone without a valid license/registration/insurance. HOWEVER, trailer tags should be permanent until sold. They are for identification only, insurance and dl covered through the powering vehicle. No need for annual registration, it is 100% tax. My one truck, I am charged according to the GCWR, so wear to the roadway caused by the trailer weight is already covered as well.
I don't mind having to register your vehicle and have a driver's license. However, having to renew registration annually and the license every 5 years, or whatever it is, does nothing to make sure that I am a safe driver. It's just another tax and I'm 99% anti-taxation. I'm curious to know how much of that revenue generated simply covers the costs of our county office and employees collecting those fees. Then, if we also quit wasting police resources on these dumb violations, all of a sudden we have saved a big chunk of $$$.
I don't know that we have that kind of airfare in the budget just yet! Who knows? If we can grow this podcast big enough, we may be able to do that one day!
Ty, I think you did the right thing!! NO babies, you have a beautiful one already. There is someone out there that does not want any more OR need them. Best of Luck to you. If I was younger, I could be your farmer wife!! LOL xoxo
We've had Brandon on, actually twice now. His episodes are very heavy on the Agriculture side but we did sprinkle a little fwaw in there. Nathan is coming on the show if everything works out towards the end of June.
I knew he wasn't gonna pick anyone. The mom thing I knew would be a deal breaker w him. I hope he does find his person. Everyone deserves someone to love.
I respect Ty more for not choosing a lady that he didn't think he'd share his life with, would have been cruel to pick one, and then hurt them worse down the road
