K390 requires diamond stones. Any steel with vanadium or niobium requires diamond stones. I’d say the most wear resistant steel that can be sharpened on non-diamond is CPM154/154CM or the D2’s.
-Sand the shiny micarta with 60 grit sandpaper and it will look more “organic.” -you can use the 60 grit and a block to round the edges of the scales like the new versions of these scales. -your lock probably still sticks out.?
I got several K390 Spyderco models, almost all of those except the Police because it has more than 11 centimeters of blade and thus it's illegal in my country and the Dragonfly because it is too short to perform common tasks as cutting cheese or bread (type of baguettes over here) for the lunch and such. I have instead in my keyring as kind of backup a Ladybug in K390. In some places to release a knife is seen as alarming but I always have my inconspicuous Ladybug and I use it quite often.
Og Military in the pocket all day every day . The rest of my 40 + ish folders waiting in the toolbox to be used one day 😀. The only folders came close is tne GB 1, Benchmade 710 and recently the Presidio 2 what I really like indeed . This Military 2 just a larger pm2 imho . I have no intrest to purchase it whatsoever . Instead I orderd an other Military just in case 🤭
Just ordered my second spyderco in a one day sale. First was ladybug haha. The endura sale price was sadly just outside my budget. So I ordered a dragonfly. Two days later I received a tax rebate cheque in the mail. So close to getting a green endura.. hopefully I’ll still appreciate the dragonfly. Thanks for the video
I appreciate this video. My first Spyderco was a Para-1 from an Army-Navy store. it was just so big as a knife. When I got my Para-2 recently, I was shocked how sturdy it is next to the Para-1.

The 2 definitely…and that’s just because the 1 doesn’t really have liners. It’s got a liner lock but that’s the only bit of metal that exists in the scales aside from the lanyard tube. That’s one of my favorite aspects about the 52100 model. It’s this big chunk of carbon fiber that’s lightweight but ridiculously sturdy.
To me it really doesn't make sense to carry a big folder like the Military tip up. At least with tip down you can pinch the hole while still in the pocket and flick it open with a spydiedrop. With tip up carry you have to fumble around with your hand to reach for the hole in order to flick it open, maybe even dropping the knife in the process. Imho it only makes sense with smaller knives, or knives with a wave or similar deployment concept.
Never a fan of the pm2, this mighta as well be a true pm3 lol. My favorite is my s90v Ti framelock/ cf Millie. That is the epitome of that design imho.
Sal said they don’t have plans to discontinue the Military any time soon which is a good thing. So the two versions can co-exist for now. I have had my 2 for 2 weeks now and I’m enjoying it. I may still buy another original since my old one is long gone.

I actually hit you back…I’m always looking for new sharpening ideas/techniques. They say that you can spend a lifetime learning how to sharpen and I believe it…always learning and always evolving.
Got plenty of Spydercos but never a Military since they have so many great models. Can't own em all. Love the compression lock so will grab this new one. Thanks for the video and your thoughts on the new design.
Personally, I don't really care for Liner-Lock Folders. But, I do like my Compression-Lock Spyderco Folders. So, now, myself, I want to try out the New Military 2. It looks like a really nice Spyderco. I want one. :-) Great comparison Video. :-) Thank you for sharing. Now, I have to get it. :-)

This M2 with its upgrades is not making me want to retire my 10+ year old original camo Military with liner lock which has held up perfectly Something about the original design that makes it more, special ✌️
I got the Blurple S110v Military, a few months ago, before they're discontinued,, I much prefer the liner lock, and tip down carry is sheer perfection, imho.. My PM2'S haven't seen daylight since the Milly arrived, 🤣.. It's simply the best knife in the world,, bar none, imho....
I completely, totally agree about tip-down carry, man. I’m not sure why it gets such a bad rap. The PM2 and military would feel weird any other way to me.
Dude…I’ve been looking at that knife for a while now. It’s interesting to hear it referred to as a delica sized stretch. I’ll have to put that on the ole list. I like keeping some 8cr around for sharpening currency and general beatery.
Ergonomics are a hand size/shape talking point that you can go on about forever (I guess they already do that on the spyderco forums). I have a stock cruwear 2xl and it *is* fantastic. For my money though, a g10 or micarta shaman with a slim deep carry clip is top of the line, ergonomically.
@@manifestoutdoors5698 That does sound like a good combo. Even if the knife itself is ergonomic I do admit that the clip can get in the way for some actions.
@@zedax7122 I actually carried my 2xl on a lark today. Man, that thing is double tough. I don’t know what you’d have to do to reach its breaking point but it would almost *have to* involve the pivot area…the rest is just so life-proof.
I wish I could keep my 52100 para 3 that clean! Im pretty sure if its not cutting something its rusting... probably the only knife i have issues with. At least the military in m4 isnt a rust magnet 😅
Lol for sure…sometimes I wish you didn’t have to be so careful with 52100. I find myself reflexively wiping the blade on my jeans every time i touch it. The crazy thing about 52100 is it reacts to sweat and body chemistry so heavily. I don’t have particularly corrosive sweat and i don’t sweat that heavily to begin with but some guys will leave marks on their blade simply by touching it and not cleaning it off. It’s just *so* reactive…
@manifestoutdoors5698 - Mine is doomed anyway. I work at a fertilizer plant. Everything is covered in salts.... and I got it off a buddy for $40 because he was so annoyed by its rustiness. So it gets used like a $40 knife. Great knife though. Just heavily speckled. 😅
The military is so good. One of the best liner locks ever made. The geometry used at the interface, and the angle of the lockbar are true innovations. The military 2 is a 4" pm2...
I just found your video. Nice job! I have never sharpened K390 but I expected it to be more of a "pain" to sharpen! I wish I could sharpen with my left hand too! Seems like it would help with consistency.
K390 isn't a pain to sharpen at all, just need to use Dimond or can and it's a breeze. Especially with a great ht like how spyderco does. It's such a great steel
All of those at least have the strongest and least intrusive lock in all folding knives. It is the only lock that broke the blade before the lock failed. All the other Spy Locks broke first.
