I currently have a 10 speed 11-46 setup for my gravel (650b) and I'm planning for an upgrade to 11 speed Shimano Deore M5100 (11-42) or (11-51). Which of the two gear ratios is better? I ride 20kms daily on rugged asphalt and on weekends I do uphill.
This is a fantastic video that covers all the important parts. I just ordered a Fyxation Sparta Allroad with a straight alu steerer and QR for my touring bike. I'm thrilled to upgrade from a steel fork to a carbon fork and this video made me look forward to receiving and installing my fork even more!
I had the chai waffle (YUM!) on an organized ride a couple of weeks ago. It was difficult to open & eat while riding. It broke (I was sad) & crumbs fell all over. Grant it, I was able to eat about 85% but after one bite I was sad to waste what fell. I wish there was a trick to eating!!!!
Appreciate this review. Just ordered the Graveling + in 700-38c. This will be used on a fitness hybrid running an asphalt mostly with a bit of hardback along the way.
Just noticed one more thing I prefer about the Tranz-x relative to Redshift and Kinekt. Each has its own features that I prefer for different terrains. In addition to the low cost and light weight of Tranz-X, I noticed the rotational compliance when I hit a rock rinding on pavement. My hands on the hoods, I hit a rock that gave a slight rotation to the wheel and fork as it shot off to the side. I barely noticed feeling any rotation or any impact in my hands as the wheel immediately snapped back. Noticeably less dangerous than a horizontally rigid stem.- Pretty cool and definitelh a keeper on my paved road touring bike.
Have these tires for about 300kms, and I love them. Hard to install, but once done they feel very solid, puncture resistant, and not too slow on road. I would say excellent tires for no extreme conditions. But quite harder than other tires so yes play with pression. I owned schwalbe GS One RS and I had flat tires every 50-100kms, so I prefer one thousand times these Panaracer.
Looking for a quality tire (700-38c) for my TREK hybrid, which I use as a fitness bike riding exclusively on asphalt (~50 miles/week). Is the Gravel King Slick my answer?
Wow you have built a complete shopping list of all the components I have lined up (after watching 100s of hours of YT videos!) for a similar future build. Will be interesting to see how you find them. (Only difference still mulling over might be Rohloff Speedhub with Gebla converter to SRAM, with suitable frame, if not the Ratio/ Garbaruk combo).
@@johnutli4 well I have reviews basically for all the major parts on this bike on my channel (which after 100 hours you have watched) I love this build I’m just waiting to take it out for proper gravel ride when I’m healed up from my recent gal bladder surgery. If you have any specific questions you can respond to this comment to ask
@@LockedinCycling Actually the 100s of hours was from scouring 100s of other YT channels - so arriving at (almost) the same answer in different ways I suppose validates the logic from both sides! People seem to be converging on similar solutions. Will definitely check out your component reviews as well. If only there was a ready-made bike that did all this (or would that spoil the fun!?) Hope you recover soon 👍
@@amarramoul4027 I don’t have that bike anymore I can’t keep all the review bikes, some go back some I keep for a short period and sell. If you have a question I can do my best to answer it. For double the price I’d check other options. I’m not familiar with what bikes I’ve reviewed that you can get in Europe
@@LockedinCycling here the American bikes doubled in price ....thanks so much for the replay..i will definitely ask you questions because am new to cycling and i wanns do it more
I asked Microshift about this - they were very helpful. It's actually only the Version 1 Advent-X derailleur that will work with 51t - neither the V2, nor the Sword, will work. Just to be clear - the V1 doesn't officially support 51t either, but it happens to work.
i buy it used i put 700x40c wheels...i think its good for my needs ... The Crankset teeth is getting so sharp , should I. Put on it shimano claris r2000 Crank ???? Is it gonna fit ???
How much have you used the groupset with Ratio technology parts? How is it holding up? I am interested in how the ratchet retains its teeth and shift quality. Thanks!
@@markkutera5329 it’s still going strong if you watch my latest build video I still have it on my current build. I think it has probably about 4000 miles on it. I would assume at this point since the kit.
I have this group set on my bike , I went from mechanical 9100 Dura Ace to Wheeltop EDS TX , and it’s been flawless. I got it about 3 months ago and live in the USA , NV. I’m very satisfied with it, it shifts all the time every time, and no chain drop yet. I have about 1200 miles on it as of now. I wanted to try something different so I saw Wheeltop, and its versatility is just awesome to say the least, is what attracted me to this particular group set. I believe I’m the first one that got this group set in the states, even before GCP, and bought it with my own money, back in the end of May of this year, just after they went public with this group set, however I could be wrong”!!! I talked to GCP and he said his was working fine and had no issues either with his set as well.
I run the 35mm version at 55psi rear, 51psi front. For reference with bike the total weight is 175ish pounds. Mainly for roads and gravel-like 'short-cuts'. Nice review!
Late to party, but I have it on 3 different touring (gravel) bikes with drop bars. initially happy with the damping, but am experiencing compression wear on the elastomer after only a year on the bikes that get the most trail abuse. To be fair, they all have 1” fork shims that may be the cause. At $25 on Amazon, they are cheap to replace, but am moving my two 3-season bikes to Redshift and considering a Kinect metal spring for my 4-season rough trails and sub-zero bike (out of concern for elastomer changes in low temps). The symptoms are more play when pulling up like when bunny hopping and more chatter on chop. Otherwise, I do feel much less shoulder and upper body issues on longer rides of 60-110K. I’m a 58y.o, ex- road, track, and cyclocross amateur racer and still ride a 5cm drop saddle to bars.
This seems like it could really be a competitive option if/when they come out with a gravel model that is 1x and cheaper without the front derailleur. A removeable battery seems like a must to me but supposedly they stopped doing that because of a SRAM trademark. Hopefully they are working around it if true.
Your SRAM loving is showing when you say you like that one button on the left shifter! :P Coming from riding Shimano Di2, when I test-rode a bike with SRAM drivetrain the thing I liked the least was the idea that I wanted to be in "the other ring" when actuating the front derailleur. Sometimes I just want to make sure I'm not cross chaining or that I am actually in the smallest gear combo. There not being any intuitive way to check without it switching to the one I didn't want had me looking at my feet instead of at the road.
@@MarkCassell1 it’s really not , if you set it up to to your fit numbers most wouldn’t notice , but this was a way to help you dial in a change in it if you notice
@@vbnxt I have a review on the kitchen sink bars, Ill try to reach out to red shift and see if they can provide a set for review, I’ve been wanting to review the new seatpost they came out with at sea otter
