My name is Jakey, and I'm an international student studying at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan! The purpose of my channel is to show what life is like here as a college student! I hope to do lots of fun stuff, so please, watch and enjoy!
Hi Jakey, I had been exchange student at Kyushu University about 5 years ago! Now I’m graduate student and preparing visiting student to USA, so I really have to study English. Then I am finding vlog video in English to study, and finally found your video! I am really missing my exchange student life in Fukuoka. It’s best experience for my life. So I am very happy and thankful to watch your video. :) I don’t know you are still in Japan, I hope it will be a meaningful and happy experience for you!
Wow the food is so much cheaper than Canada, even if I bought from farmers markets in the countryside I don’t think I could get the meat especially that cheap. Also of you want some convenient storage, I don’t know if you can get them in Japan but Canadian bike shops sell panniers that convert into backpacks and they’re very convenient for shopping.
Hi, i wanna do my bachelor degree in Japan,,, in Electrical engineering and Computer science Subject, so what is the acceptance rate and iam from bangladesh.
Thank you for the informative video as usual . One question i would really appreciate if you would answer is , say if i apply for a masters program in kyushu uni , do i need to apply for the scholarship of mext separately ? or is it just awarded to the students automatically if the have a good academic resume ? i wanna study there by applying to MEXt hopefully next year so , if you see this comment please show me the light !
It's not difficult at all! It's a straight shot from campus, and almost entirely downhill or on flat terrain! The hard part is getting back up the hill 😂 It only takes about 12-15 minutes to get there though! I like to pedal fast, so maybe closer to 15-17 for a more leisurely ride!
thank you for the video :) i'm also planning on mechanical engineering! how are you finding the education quality? are you studying in japanese or in english?
Thank you for watching! I found the education to be extremely intimate with the material being taught. Pretty much all of my professors did research in their respective fields, so they had a huge passion for what they taught, and an even larger pool of knowledge. I took my engineering classes in English, so no need to worry! Make sure to study extra hard for your tests, though! ;)
Interesting floor plan, although I am somewhat perplexed about the Japanese cultural superstition’s in regard to the usage of unlucky #’s. So during the filming inside the elevator I noticed an elevator button for the 4TH FLOOR, is this now acceptable in the Japanese culture seeing a 4TH FLOOR elevator button in Japan?
The dorms come with a winter blanket that is thick-ish, but I personally thought it wasn't enough, so I went and bought another! However, if you don't mind being a bit cold at night, the winter blanket provided might be enough!
hi jakey , i really love your channel but i wanted to inquire about the admissions in kyushu University to achieve a master's degree and when it is open
Hey Jake, when did you arrive in Japan and what was the date on your visa for entry in japan? I got my student visa and it says that I can enter anytime starting from 23 August. I want to arrive in Tokyo on 10 Sep and go to Fukuoka on 18 Sep. Can immigration deny entry at Tokyo because I come too early even though it is allowed by the visa? I can show reservations for the 1 week hotel stay in Tokyo, if needed? I will check into my Uni dorm on 18th Sep.
Hello!! The entry date on my visa was Aug 23 as well, but I entered Japan on September 19. The only reason I came that day was because it was the first day I was allowed in the dorms. Plenty of my friends arrived early and traveled/stayed in other locations, so you're completely okay! However, upon entry, you will need to specify where you will be staying and provide an address, so I would definitely show them that reservation! I'm excited for you, man! It's coming up soon! Best of luck!!!
@@JakeyInJapan hey really thanks for your reply. Thanks for taking out the time to get back again and again for my questions. If I arrive in tokyo on 10th sep and show them the hotel reservation from 10th to 18th, will that be sufficient. Did you know someone who was successfully able to enter early? I really don't wanna get deported 😭
@@amansharma2870 No problem! Sorry I was a few days late! Yes, that should be perfectly fine! And yeah, I think 2 or 3 of my friends came early and stayed in Tokyo or traveled around during their time before the dorms were available! Even if the worst case scenario happens, you always have a 90 day tourist visa. I accidentally cancelled my visa when I went to Thailand, so I had to get a tourist visa and then another student visa when I returned to Japan. The staff is so nice and helpful too, so you'll be fine! Your visa is active anyways; go enjoy yourself, man!
@@JakeyInJapan I think the 90 day tourist visa is not for my country (india) so I can only enter on my student visa. Well, I also believe there should be no problems. I will see if it's possible to go to tokyo first.
Thank you for watching! I am no longer in Japan as I graduated from my program, but I did make one more video on shopping! It has the prices in there, and it is a much better place to go shopping as well! I hope you can watch it and get some value from it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fOIUy2oyfn8.htmlsi=CD1deyON2Tmi_Kku
Hi Jakey, I am a new student who will live in dormitory 1 next month. Thank you so much for your dorm tour video about details of this dormitory since there is not enough visible information on the official website.❤ Wish to see u on campus.😊
That's awesome, congratulations! I am really happy that you got some value from my videos! I struggled to find information as well, so I wanted to put some stuff out there to help others! And, unfortunately, I have graduated from the JTW program and am no longer in Japan, but I hope you have a great time there!!
I'm not from Atlanta, but I am from Georgia! My brother used to work as a driving instructor at the Porsche Experience Center in ATL, so I got a bunch of exclusive merch for free; it was great!! You should definitely apply, though! The school is amazing, and I really wish I could do it all over again!
Thank you so much for the video. Quick question: If we pass the secondary screening, will they also give us questions about math/physics/chem outside personal questions? Because I'm scared that I couldn't answer it.. (for engineering program)
Fortunately, no subject related questions are asked! Just make sure you know what you wrote in your personal statement and what your motivations are and you'll be fine! Of course, this may change over the years, but I imagine the interview process will likely not change much. Best of luck to you!!
@@JakeyInJapan That's a relief.. thank you so much for answering! 😊 I'm planning to enroll at the Kyushu University IUPE program majoring in civil engineering next January. I've been preparing all the docs including competition certificates since then.. I hope I'll also become a part of Kyushu Univ just like you next year! 😔
Quick question, do you know whats the daily schedule like for freshmen in engineering? Like how many classes/hours a day, or if there's breaks in between? Thx in advance
The daily schedule will certainly vary for each student, so it's tough to give a proper answer as far as breaks/hours/etc go, but you can find examples of schedules for each academic year on their website! I'll link it below for you! qubes.kyushu-u.ac.jp/list.php?CONTENTS=11
I tried looking around their website a little bit and couldn't find anything indicating whether or not they would. I would imagine so long as you have standardized test scores like SAT or ACT, you should be okay to apply!
@@JakeyInJapan Thank you so much for the reply. I have mailed them 2 times and looked out on their website and they mentioned they're "ambiguous" that GED is accepted. I will be sitting for my SAT exam really soon and they have mentioned the mark that is required for the subject. I was wondering if they accept GED cause I don't have any other high school diploma, anyways I am also applying to Nagoya G30, hoping to get accepted in one of these two universities !
@@saalimsaadman3648 Ah, that's frustrating that you can't get a clear answer. At least you're able to take the SAT and submit that, though! Good luck with that test; I really hated taking it myself lol! And good luck with the applications as well! I'm sure you'll be able to get in!!
@@JakeyInJapan Lastly, Is the engineering department open for 2025 Ocotber batch? The website is showing only for Department of Bioresource and Bioenvironment. Can I apply for ME/EECS for the next 25 oct?
@@saalimsaadman3648 I would imagine that it would be open for the October 2025 class. However, I can't say for certain; I apologize. Perhaps reaching out to someone may be a good idea, but even I have been having trouble getting in touch with the university, so I can't say for sure how soon you would get a response...
Hey man, thanks again for you videos, they really help to cope with stress. Yes, even the ones where you do squats. I've got some questions about weather there, how's it like in different seasons? And also maybe you've got some packing tips, in terms of weather appropriate clothes or just things that you consider musts?
It makes me happy that I am able to help! Thank you so much for watching and supporting my videos! The weather is pretty interesting to be honest. The heat is super hot and the cold is super cold! I feel like I start sweating just thinking about going outside in the summer haha! The winter is a biting cold, so be careful to wear stuff that will block the wind. The wind in Fukuoka seems to always be absurdly strong. One of the best things I bought was heat tech undergarments from Uniqlo, so I would absolutely recommend either bringing some with you or buying some there for the winter. Also, another thing is that Japanese people don't really wear shorts, so if you're looking to fit in, make sure to bring lots of pants lol! Also, in the summer, shirts that can help wick sweat are a huge help. Copious amounts of sweat are practically inevitable, so make sure to prepare for that. Gatsby (or any other brand) wipes are my favorite thing for sweat. They're great to help you cool down, and they stop you from sweating for a few minutes too! Best of luck braving the elements there, and let me know if you have any more questions!!
Hey Jake, how is it in terms of study pressure at kyushu? Do you have to be attending every single class or are you able to go away for a week? I want to go back home with christmas but probably will have classes to late december
You definitely will have a strict attendance policy, but so long as you attend your classes until Christmas and let your professor know before you leave, you won't have a problem! I actually did the same thing, leaving halfway through one of my classes to go to the airport to go home for Christmas! One of my classes actually agreed to have class on zoom so I could attend from the US. It was a Japanese language course, so we had a lot of flexibility with it. I did have to miss others, though. Depending on which courses you'll be missing, your experience may vary. A few absences are more than okay, though! I think three is generally the limit
Bro i would like to know about entrance exam of MSc in EEE Kyushu University... Please help me. Please recommend me or help to connect with a student who pass this exam. Please.....(I was search a lot but i couldn’t find one) 🥲
Unfortunately, I do not know any students who are currently in that program or plan to take the exam. All of my friends are undergraduate. I can ask around, but I might not be able to find someone. I will let you know!
Thank you for watching! I would love to do more, but I unfortunately just graduated from Kyushu University and am back home in America! I'll still be making videos, though!
The dorm policy does not allow for anyone to spend the night with you. Also, there isn't much space in the rooms. However, if it's maybe one or two people, then... 😉 Just be careful and respectful, and it should be fine. Lots of people have folks stay for short periods of time
OMG! I'm so glad I found your video. I went to Kyudai for a short program in 2015-2016. I used to live in dorm 1, too, on the 4th floor. This video brings back so many memories!!!. And how crazy it is that everything in the dorm looks precisely the same! The only change is that the laundry room has many washing and drying machines. There used to be only about 5 pairs for the whole building, hahaha.
That's awesome!! That makes me so happy that I was able to give you back some of those memories!! I'm sure I'll go back and watch my own videos after a while too! I wonder how many washers and dryers will be there then haha!
The dorm rent is paid monthly by yourself! You can open a Japanese bank account and manually transfer it each month, or you can bike to the bank and pay it by cash! Also, there is a 30,000 yen deposit that is paid at the beginning of your stay, but you'll get it back as long as the room remains in decent condition!
Would be sick to do that, man! Unfortunately, I will be leaving Japan in a few days; I just graduated from the JTW program, so it's time to go home for me... Best of luck in the iron temple, brother 🫡
I was wondering if JLPT will help me in applying? I understand it isn't required, but will it help my application be favored? I'm pretty confident I can pass N4 with a bit of studying, but idk if its worth it.
Unfortunately it won't help. The entire program is in English, so all that matters is either you are a native English speaker or have a high score for an English proficiency test. I wish the JLPT helped, though.. If you do want to take it, take it in Japan! It's much cheaper here, so a lot of my friends did it!
No Japanese proficiency needed at all! In fact, a lot of the friends I made here had never studied Japanese before! I would highly recommend learning as much as you can, though, as it will greatly improve your experience here! :)
@@JG_Vietnam That makes me happy to hear!! Sadly, I'm selling my bike now. I'm really going to miss it when I go back to the states. There isn't much opportunity for me to bike around there :(
Ahh, I thought you meant the video haha! I misunderstood! EVA is a life-changing perspective-shifting experience for sure! It has stuck with me for a while; that's why I decided to add the title card and outro in each video I make lol
Thank u so much, just came back from a trip in Fukuoka it was beautiful, as u said the beaches are great and so are the cafes! I also got a chance to check out kyushu university but sadly since I went on a Sunday everything was closed, got to roam around the outside though and learned how to get there 😁💪. The school is way bigger than it looks on pictures, I was pretty surprised. Hopefully i’ll be here next year (I’m class of 2025 hoping to do aerospace engineering). Thanks so much once again - Ashmita :)
That's so awesome!! I am so glad that you were able to experience those! It's a shame everything was closed, but at least it wasn't crowded haha! I wish you the best of luck in getting here! I know you'll be able to do it, and I know you'll have such a great time here :D
