Today, looking-out at the current milestone we are passing on our AI journey, many companies envision using AI as a tool that empowers managers and employees to increase productivity and creativity. Companies are clinging to the belief that they will continue to need employees to perform job roles, especially as those employees are boosted by AI skills that make them more efficient and effective. But how long will it take before this upskilling becomes a waste of time? This belief in upskilling is due to a fundamental misunderstanding of exponential growth in AI performance, and thinking that current capabilities will persist in the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, as AI develops, roles for people that seem practical for the future now, will increasingly (and quickly) lose their significance. The reality is that any task that can be defined, can eventually be automated. Jobs, as we know them and envision them, will be toast!
I need an AI Bot to summarize this podcast. I am sure there is some value, but it's taking so long to listen to the guest. Even with 1.2 it feels slow.
Thanks for listening and commenting. You are right there is a much substance in this podcast! AI is math and statistics. Of course we could argue definitions and the metaphysics of what constitutes "intelligence." The fact that AI raises these issues is compelling in itself. Thanks for commenting!
Great question. I think their consumer customer base is so large and diverse that segmenting would be hard. However, they do offer business services, which is under the umbrella of a different group. Bear in mind that the interviewee is president of the consumer group and business groups fall outside his responsibility.
I asked the fire damage assessment problem to chatgpt for fun. Here is the reply: "If it's too risky to send anyone inside the building, consider using remote assessment methods such as drones equipped with high-resolution cameras or thermal imaging technology to evaluate the damage from a safe distance. You can also utilize satellite imagery or conduct a virtual walkthrough using 3D modeling software to assess the extent of the damage without putting anyone's life at risk. Additionally, if available, consult with experts remotely for guidance on the best course of action."
Many individuals who lack true understanding of the ML field, often dubbed 'pseudo AI experts', struggle to dissect and solve business problems due to their inability to grasp how to effectively utilize these technologies. A significant portion of applications, for instance in generative AI, remain fixated solely on conversational chatbots.
Very insightful talk. I am from life science background with PhD in Biochemistry. I am really interested to grow as a Data Analyst in Pharma but do not have a clue where to start developing those skills.
AI is only going to benefit big tech. AI is already being used to move people away from the workplace. Truck drivers are one of the first things that AI is trying to attack. By removing the driver out of the truck. It's also going to remove a lot of other people away from other industrie such as car to try and say that this is going to save jobs is a joke. This is all about trying to keep from paying decent wages to the everyday American person and all around. Sorry but I just don't buy this!!!
Thanks for the comment. You have raised a host of issues with no easy answers. These are hard challenges and on CXOTalk, we plan plenty of discussions around workforce disruptions and what can / should be done.
This is a marvel. I read a book with similar content, and it was a marvel to behold. "The Hidden Empire: Inside the Private Worlds of Elite CEOs" by Adam Skylight

AI has millions of positive opportunities and few negative things associated with it and minimize negatives through learning experiences. Disruptions will be massive. Exponential growth of open source projects bringing new opportunities,
