Creator Insider is an informal RU-vid channel to share information from the RU-vid Creator technical team with the wider Creator community. Our team works on the product you use with RU-vid to manage your channel. We will feature different people talking about the products they work on and changes we are making so RU-vid creators have more context. Please note this is not an official RU-vid channel and is an experiment. Also we are biased to rapid communication over video quality. If you like it we will do our best to continue. If not, we'll get back to our day jobs :-)
It doesn't seem like having lonegr shorts is very good for retention. The vast majority of viewers (myself included) seem to have short attention spans with them lol so 1 minute is perfect. Higher than 1 minute may work well for a small fraction of a few but in general it seems that the shorter they are, the better.
I personally love the short shorts but once in a while i come across one that just needed 20 seconds extra to make it awesome especially for film reviews and educational tips.
An extra 10-15 seconds would be ideal for me for shorts. I'm usually editing down a few seconds to get to 57-58 seconds just to make sure RU-vid recognizes the video as a short. Often cutting that last piece a footage to tie a video together.
Hi, I recently received an age restriction on one of my videos and appealed it, but RU-vid decided to keep the restriction in place. I also deleted 25-30 low-performing videos around the same time. Now, I'm experiencing a drop in views and my algorithm seems to be suffering. Can anyone suggest what I can do to improve my views and get my algorithm back on track? I'd appreciate any advice or guidance. And I think my channel has been freeze
A lot of views comes from RU-vid shorts! It's really sad that we won't have this ability to edit a thumbnail for the end of the year... Can you at least give the ability to choose a frame from desktop?
You're all very disconnected from the platform. There are lots of issues needs adressing, instead of wasting time with these nonsense, it would be better to spend time and learn from creators about the real problems we're all facing. You might start by increasing the 2Mb thumbnail size to at least 20Mb... year 2024 - this is simply a joke.
2Mb Thumbnail size limit is illogical, are you reading reviews? you're very disconnected from your own platform, otherwise you would've seen all the neccessary things that needs attention as a matter of urgency.
That first one would've been helpful back in 2017 before permanently demonetized over a surgery and changed the policy, The last one was confusing Jargen. Now How about stopping the outsourcing.
I would just put shorts to 5 minutes and if you could make an entertaining 5 minute short and get a lot of people to actually watch till the end, you would get a lot of views. Plus, there would probably be more engagement and more subscribers from views on the longer ones. So people would spend more time on YT and creators would be able to build a bigger audience with Shorts.
I'm glad you two feel so good about the new features added that I'll likely never use. Yet the one I need (and judging by the comments, many others agree) remains unanswered, i.e., the ability to choose the thumbnail on the desktop. Is that even on your team's roadmap, Johanna?
I dont Like Shorts at all. OR the type of creator that makes them. OR the type of Audience that watch shorts.Get that Brain Rot OUTTA HERE. Shorts content STINK.
Shorts have basically done nothing for me... and now my latest shorts are shown (grouped in) with my longform content instead of with all my other shorts. What's going on?
How can you say, "The majority of views for shorts are videos without thumbnails" Then ignore that thumbnail creation is not available with the exception of the phone app. When so many of us are asking for it. This is the system limitation RU-vid has created. The capability to create a far richer content is on the desktop!!!
... These are "YOUR" opinions on shorts! If you could link to the video referencing the short, then it would be absolutely useful in practice. ...and bring back hypertext RU-vid links.
