When I made this video I didn't even consider Masters EX or Mystery Dungeon and I really need to play those games for completion's sake. Thank you for watching :)
Honestly tera just made restricted pokemons even worse. Calyrex can just randomly tank dark moves and groudon can just resist water like it's nothing now
i disagree, i think dark magician and blue eyes white dragon are far more centric than calytutu. have you ever faced a dark magic attack? and it can tera? like light does be dark type, but whats the point if they can just tera away and dodge the light attack? dark magician centric meta game is super not fun
I disagree on the point for Yveltal and Xerneas Yveltal is absolutely an amazing Pokémon but it was used a lot in Gen 8 not only as a great offensive utility Pokémon similar to Incineroar but also because it was the bulkiest Dark type in the format next to Incineroar, meaning that it had an amazing Calyrex matchup. It was great support with snarl and AV, and with dark aura it always did a good chunk of damage. Xerneas had fell off in Gen 8 VGC as a result of Dynamax and it having to play without it as a result of geomancy and losing dazzling gleam upon dynamaxing. While it’d be stronger in this format it’s significantly weakened by the prevalence of this generations steel and poison Tera’s. We have super strong options to handle it or at the very least handle its partners, cause while Tera Fairy Flutter Mane with Fairy Aura boost is scary, at the end of the day Tailwind + Gholdengo forces either a defensive tera or a protect. This generation has multiple ways to play around Fairy Type spam that it’s no longer a powerful team style like it was back in Gen 6/7. Even then most Xerneas would use Tera Steel/Poison/Water which isn’t great in this format due to Landorus-I, Ogerpon, and Ursaluna running around. No longer having Yveltal makes Calyrex even harder to handle now that it can just click Tera Fairy and call it a day. There’s absolutely no reason to use any other special attacker than Calyrex, same for Physical Attackers. Calyrex has absolutely no reliable counter outside of Imprison + Expanding Force Farigiraf with Incineroar or a seconds normal type. The best you can do against it is force a 50/50 mixup with Kingambit by using Iron Head after their protect turn. Otherwise it Tera Fairies, clicks draining kiss, restores to full, gets OHKO’d and survives by sash, then draining kiss again to get back more HP. You need dark spam to win and people are running dark tera to cover for it, it’s absolutely warping the meta game onto itself
Thanks so much for watching and having a very detailed response! It means a lot and I hope you stick around as we grow as a channel. I'm definitely not an authority on the meta game, just a man with an opinion. I think Reg G is pretty fun so far. GL HF on all your matches.
@@PoxxVGC Honestly thing is that I’d agree with you if Calyrex wasn’t in this format. Remove Calyrex (both forms) and you have a really balanced restricted format as there’s no immediate steam roll options. Koraidon sun would be the strongest archetype but sun itself is very easy to play around as a result of Flutter Mane hitting every past paradox Pokémon for super effective damage.
I can respect your take and I really do hope you have lots fun in the format but like i dont most of the evidence you provided strongly support like did you really suggest bloodmoon ursaluna as a good pokemon to use against calrex shadow? The same ursaluna that has low special def and can't take an expanding force or easily ko in return? that one? Alright if you say so dude.
Unfortunately same can't be stated in regards to singles. So many broken min maxed mons released this gen the power creep was felt to an insane degree. Both Miraidon and Koraidon are also very broken in singles. But I guess gf doesn't really balance for singles at all
I agree that this gen seems like it'll be more fun. I usually just put Pokemon away once restricted format rolls around but im actually gonna play reg g. Shadow and ice rider can be beat but if you make a misplay you just lose instantly. If they had nerfed them properly then I'd expect alot of diversity like reg f. I play online so most are terrible at using the horse but in tournaments you better bring a horse
Best it has ever been? Yeah no... I would rather take any unrestricted format in history over anything that has the horse. Even dealing with primal Kyogre would be preferable.
Tbf it's better than gen 8. Dealinf with pre merf caly shadow, pre nerf zacian, pre nerf eleki, weather legends and the broken gmax forms were hell on earth
Yea no, Calyrex is fucking busted, at least in SwSH we had dynamax and more mons to deal with it. Not only that but the introduction of Clear Amulet/ Covert cloak makes all these other restricted even more broken. Tera makes them all more of a pain to deal with, now I can’t just use Rillaboom grassy glide into Kyogre or Groudon if they can just Tera out of it. This gen is by far the strongest in power
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is mostly wrong. Why do I say this? Well it’s because restricted formats allow for more creativity. Not to mention that there are many more meta threats now to keep track of which just makes the game harder. Zacian and Calyrex will still run amuck and terastilizing Calyrex, probably to steel, will shrug off the dark type checks to it. And perhaps the most crucial part is the clear amulet item which takes away intimidate checks to powerful Pokémon like Groupon and koraidon, both of which pair well with paradox Pokémon.
Tera steel is definitely not the go with Caly S. It still loses to icin that way and opposing meinshao. Tera Fairy, even without draining kiss is the absolute sauce. Even then tera dark isn't too bad either
I disagree. It's true that gamefreak has gotten much better at creating balanced pokemon this generation (Ogerpon, Terapagos etc.). The problem comes from from gen 8, and the specific problem is indeed Calyrex. That the damned thing isn't been nerfed is mind boggling. Just finding a way to outspeed it is a pain in teambulding. Sure it's got a lot of things that can wall it (Farigiraf, Kingambit, Incineroar), but I'm finding that I have to dedicate so much of the team's energies to stop calyrex that it's hard to then counter other match ups. Also yeah, you can tera, but the damn bastard can tera too, and in fact it's one of the best users of the dynamic. To me, in this early days, Reg G has felt like a toxic, power-crept, calyrex-centered metagame.
This is why I decided to use a more laid back yet still annoying Calyrex-Shadow set. Bulky with a Sitrus Berry, behind screens, Nasty Plot Tera Fairy Draining Kiss. It surprisingly works. You dont need the screens or sitrus, you could be sash. But I loved healing back to full HP. I’m using Rayquaza now. What’s more broken then Caly-S is Caly-Ice. Clear Amulet + Tera Fire, only way you’re mitigating its attack is with Reflect. And then there’s Bloodmoon…
Everytime I talk about this in my group I always say the same thing: I find extremely funny how the nerfed Zacian-C, and Zamazenta-C for some reason, just quite literally release a Zacian-C 2, but much cuter. And yet, they left Urshifu essentially untouched (they lowered the BP of Wicked Blow, but not even as much as Grassy Glide's BP nerf), and most of all, they forgot about both Calyrex, if anything they got buffed directly and indirectly.
Depends on how bulky they make it, but usually a scarfed rapid Urshi can 1 shot Caly. 252 spe + scarf puts Urshi at 223 speed, outspeeding Caly by a single point. Tera water to strengthen the attack and remove the weakness to Astral. If they bring a Torn, bring one of your own so you're still faster after dual tailwinds.
I like that he says he’s down to talk to people while battling. I’ve only been to one regional and most of my opps we’re open to chatting during the match but I did battle a couple people who put on their head phones and locked in and didn’t want to talk, which is okay but also less fun.
i just finished watchin the pod and it was very interesting to listen to, my favorite parts were defiantly where you went over the mind set of playing treating the game as conflict as well as the relationship and sportsmanship aspect, really echos alot of the same views i have about vgc especially the team building part so a great listen overall
Thank you so much for saying this and for watching. This is the mission of the channel. I am so excited to bring more of these episodes to the world so subscribe if you want to see more.
I think a fun new mechanic could be having a berry AND a held item. It would make the weakness boosting berries more used and make the Unnerve ability worthwhile lol
@@PoxxVGC Its just like...Shiny hats...That's it. At least Z moves, although broken they tried to do something with. If they properly animated them, they might've been the best looking gimmick in the series.
I hope, maybe even go so far as to _pray_ that we do *not* get a Pokémon game this year. We need a break from the yearly releases. Scarlet and Violet showed that.
Hi brother. Just discovered your channel. I was curious to see if Ursaluna Cresselia Trick Room Team was still a thing in Regulation F, and I'm glad I came across your video. I really like your idea of adding Gallade into the team to have a better matchup against Torkoal teams. Keep up the good work!
Dude thank you so much for the kind words. I would say it's absolutely still viable, seeing as how three cress/ursaluna teams got top 32 at Vancouver Regionals a few weeks ago. With Reg G just being announced I'll be pivoting me towards that though.
Mega evos honestly aged well and grew on me a lot. Only gripe is when starters and psuedos and other great mons get mega. I like choices like mawile and sableye, normally bad mons
I agree with your stance that Mega Evolution was never removed. However, there is a very good chance it will return in Gen X. Why? New Mega Evolutions. Look at the previous Legends game. It had new forms and evolutions introduced within but no way to use them in multiplayer. Then S/V came along and had the data for all of those Pokemon. This can only fall apart if there aren't new Mega Evolutions but since they went out of their way to confirm their return, that's unlikely.
I doubt they will give Xerneas and Yveltal a direct buff because zygarde is supposed to be the strongest of the three and zygarde complete was already established as zygarde’s peak. Also if they were going to get new forms how come this wasn’t the case in the anime, gen6, or gen7 when we got ash greninja and zygarde forms proper.
About the whole "No pokemon game this holiday season", according to the rumor mill Switch 2 was originally coming out this year but got delayed. So it is legitimately possible that Gamefreak has nothing lined up for this year (Also i think XY remakes are likely coming before Gen 5, restricting Z-A to just Lumiose feels like a deliberate decision to build Kalos hype).
Its not that the mechanic is OP intrinsically and therefore needs to be restricted to casual play. Its that Gamefreak sucks at balance. I mean no sane developer would give a pokemon with 170 special attack and 130 speed shadow tag. And in concept, metas similar to megas were never removed. Megas behave almost identical to a restricted format. You get 1 (or 2 depending on the format) super OP legendary on your team thats blatanly stronger than everything else and that your team is built around. Zacian instantly terrorized VGC for all of Gen 8 for the same reason Mega Kanghaskhan did but probably even worse. It was overcentralizing and required that people built around it or against it in order to win. So to me its not about balance as for why megas were removed. Gamefreak makes plenty unbalanced metagames even with megas gone.
