I Bought two Didgeridoo, the small one and the very big one. I play occasionally. I will never be even close to be good as Mr. Hudson but playing it opens something in your body, your mind. It makes you smile and you don't want to stop.
I've been working at this thing for over 20 years, and keep coming back to this video, which has helped me more than anything. And still, I can't seem to get the right sound out of the center of my mouth, I always have to go a bit to the left side. And I think I just figured out why! I played the Highland bagpipes for years, starting as a teen, when I needed to strengthen my mouth to keep the pressure on the blowpipe. It took years to strengthen my mouth to get it right. Well, that blowpipe goes out towards the left to the bag, and now that is the same angle I need to use on the didge. Muscle memory is very, very strong.
Goorie David my mate is from quinkin country as well. You fulla's from up there are pretty gifted Mooks is Duppi warra & a very gifted artist. i had been gifted into making Yidaki & just waving a hand young fulla you keep safe. Love your playing.
That was deadly! Thanks Uncle. I'm going to practice the circular breathing technique you just demonstrated. I reckon if I spend an hour a day at it for about a month, then hopefully I'll be skilled enough to hold a tune.
David made a beautiful didgeridoo for me in 2003, It has traveled everywhere with me but I have yet, to try to play it. Tomorrow, I will start to play it everyday until I can make a decent sound. Mahalo David, I hope you & family have shared a great life...
When I was in college I was stuck in the art/music dorm (Though I was an engineer, the university ran out of space in the engineering dorm). The students would sometimes sing and play instruments in the stairwells. This wasn’t always conducive to my studying, but I have some fond memories of yelling at my hippie dormmates to stop playing their didgeridoos and guitars in the stairwells during finals week. The acoustics were good, to be fair. Didgeridoo is a very cool, if very loud instrument.
