Thanks for posting this great concert! I live in Melbourne Australia and was lucky enough to see JJ live sometime in the 70's, been listening ever since, love the man and his songs, but oh that guitar playing-sublime.RIP JJ.
I'm 54 years old...and i listen Mr. JJ. Cale since 1985 ...i live on a very small island in Indian Ocean...very far from States...and although... You should know ,everybody, that this kind of musician and singer like J.J Cale ,it's completely amazing.a nearly magical artist directly come from Angels Choir musician... I must admit that he has been very longtime the most unknown great guitarist in the world...why????? TOO STRONG FOR HIS TIME TO BE REALLY ENTIRELY UNDERSTOOD...A REAL GENIUS!
Unbelieveable guy and to many people don't know of him. Been hooked ever since buying Okie when it was first released. Time and moves meant I only kept the best 100 of my vinyls Okie is one of them. This live session is fantastic and the recording balance, for a live session, brilliant. God Okie was released 50 years ago and I was 25.
I WILL CRY BECAUSE I MISS ALL MY FRIENDS WHO DIED YOUNG MY BOTH HUSBANDS FRANK AND URI COMMITTED SUICIDE AT AGE 35 YEARS I HAVE NO KIDS MY OLD SHEPHERD DOG DIED ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO BUT I STILL HAVE MY CAT JACK ONLY LIVING SOUL IN MY SOLITUDE I AM A HALF CRAZY BUT I AM AN ARTIST SO I AM OK
Wow! maybe it's the wine, but the groove of this recording is outstanding. One of the few recordings where some songs had extended jams. While JJ will never be considered a great guitar player, he has subtle finger picking for a tone that's hard to duplicate. LOL on his sales on the CD table.... 🙂
I discovered JJ Cale when still a teenager, I learned to play guitar to his tunes... Its' been such a great and enriching journey, I am incredibly thankful for his music. Also people who cover his music here, on youtube, you should check one person in particular, his channel is "telejazzman". Anyway JJ still remains my favorite musician up to this dayhe had it all and was a wonderful human being. So genuine and down-to-earth. Listening to this video makes me feel already nostalgic, it's like I know every note that JJ and his band is gonna play, because no month goes by that I don't listen to JJ... i know all his music, most of it I learned to play on guitar and jam to it myself... He ispired me to learn lead guitar and improvising too. Love his minimalistic approach to solo guitar and his phrasing and jazzy blueasy licks. I listen and listen but I never have enough of it. Greetings to all JJ lovers out there, music lovers and musicians!
In the 21st century, at the end of February 2024... and hearing this man's music for the 1st time; I've become hooked after only a few cords of the intro. Song One. Thank you Lord... Feeling blessed you saw fit to keep me from missing out on this one.
I wouldn't disagree with that, Phil. I would add, Credence Clearwater/John Fogerty, that sound is great, simple, freewheeling, breezy yet intense sound. But JJ Cale was a one-off. I think that every guitar-singer should get acquainted with Cale's approach to writing, playing, avoiding celebrity status, not giving many interview and just making music to make yourself and your audience happy and not selling out to anyone. Bob Dylan and Neil Young did that to a lesser extent, they still had fame and controversy heaped upon them, but I love those two as well. Rock and Roll is dead, but it will rise again in a different form. That energy is ancient, eternal, it came up in Africa when the drum was invented, chanting, funk, boogie-woogie SOUL SOUL SOUL!
glad that you mentioned Bob Dylan, he is also one of my favorites of all time, and definitely the best songwriter in history of popular music. I would add some country greats, like Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, they were geniuses in their own right (although didn't really go outside country music, as much as JJ and Dylan). My another favorite songwriter who stayed in the shadow, far away from "celebrity" status and fame, was great late Randy VanWarmer. I really recommend checking him out, not a lot of body of work, but all that there is is absolutely top-class. Greetings! @@GordonCaledonia
