I've never tried photos and I'm sure there is still SOME money to be made but photos are so much easier to get ahold of these days, it still takes a fair amount of effort to find the perfect video clip.
Oh, you watched it! haha - I don't know anything about the wirestock community/platform but BlackBox has been great for me. I consistently see sales come in from numerous platforms so I know they're getting my content in front of buyers!

Awesome, super appreciated this video. I’m looking for a program, but I’ve noticed that when I go to the website, the prices are different than what yours are showing. It looks like they’ve dropped their prices and the free version allows you to try the eye contact AI tool once. I’ll likely give it a try. I noticed that the individuals in your videos were looking off to the side in an extreme fashion. I think if people are looking a little bit off to the side, it would likely do a good job, but if they’re looking Off to the side in extreme, that’s where it poorly perform. Would you say this is accurate? I’m asking because I have my script set up right next to my camera so my eyes aren’t dramatically off to the side but just enough so that you know, I’m not looking at the lens. I’m thinking this could be a good fit for that especially with me not having a Teleprompter. at this point, I just put it on and place it right behind the camera. Thoughts? And thanks again!
That's awesome that the prices are getting lower! You are correct, we tested generally drastic shots, the ones that performed better were shots where the eyes just slightly varied in direction. How your tests go?
5:22 It's BlackBox, isn't it? That icon in the middle explains a lot. I almost consider to use it but ... no. That platform will shrink my actual revenue. That's the last option I will use if I have a lot of low-end stock video to upload. IYKWIM
Crucial question: Should we (new editors out there) wait for a reliable and user-friendly AI video editing software before going all in and purchasing DaVinci Studio, which we know is a crazy overwhelming software?
There are multiple questions/answers all wrapped up in this topic. 1. I don't think AI will completely replace manual editing EVER. Yes, it will help us a lot but we are far from AI doing even 50% of the work and there will always be a need for being able to fine tune work manually which AI really doesn't offer right now. 2. I also teach video production at the University of Washington and I teach on Premiere Pro because it's the industry standard. Of the hundreds of clients my team has created content for over the past 14+ years I have never once been asked to edit in DaVinci. Our agency and corporate partners always want things done in Premiere Pro because it's part of the Adobe ecosystem. An agency has video editors, graphic designers, audio engineers, website developers, etc and they all lean heavily into the Adobe suite. So if you're starting out, I'd learn Premiere Pro! DaVinci is very powerful, I'm not denying that, but it's not what clients pay you money to use!
100% ~ that said, I've seen people create stock footage as a full time job and they make a ridiculous amount of money now because they already put in the upfront investment. That said, who knows how long those sales will continue for!

Premiere Pro! Some folks will definitely advise you to use Davinci and it is wildly powerful but all of our agency clients demand that we use Adobe products so here we are, rocking Premiere!
Did you look at my answer to any of those other questions? haha, I wasn't trying to hide anything, I actually thought it made the video more sincere because I wasn't trying to sell you on joining the platform because of my involvement with it. this is just wasst of time, I porpmise you, First. Shutterstock is paying max ! 20% for a clip, then Blackbox takes 15 % of that !: ) and you have to put up, mix. 8 ! keywork for each clip, this will NEVER be a good bussiness, trust me
damh, the blackbox is a scam) i thought they are doing metadata for you for that 50% of profit, they are just submitting? there are services that can submit for you for like 50$ per month and you get all the money)
So interesting!! I'm curious what your thoughts are on the ethics of these platforms. I've read a number of articles that talked about how several AI platforms have been developed and trained using stolen work/art styles from real artists and creators. (As a writer, I have the same concerns around writing AI like ChatGPT.)
I hear you loud and clear! Functions like masking out backgrounds or making clips slow motion don't concern me at all but you bring up a great point that some of the more art-inspired tools could have sketchy ways of acquiring those visuals in the first place. I'd like to think Runway isn't blatantly stealing from creatives but we all know that companies will do terrible things to deliver quality products. I think the BIG PROBLEM is... how do we know? We can ask but do we take them at their word? 🤔
I made bout $200k in my peak year, but it has been downhill since. Now I only make less than half of that with 2x clips. Many top contributors quit or sold their clips in the last few years. It's not a very sustainable business now.
it is technically possible but it'll be harder. If you can do it easily then so can others which means that it'll be harder to sell the content because it won't be as unique!
Honestly a great question! When you upload your content, be it directly to Shutterstock or through a 3rd party aggregate link BlackBox, you'll be prompted to write up a clip description AND include metadata. That's a set of words that are relevant to your clip. Definitely take the time to compile a list of good words that other people will use to search for your content, it makes a big difference!
Whenever i want to get back into stock, I remember one dreadful thing: metadata. Anyway, why people grade stuff is beyond me. I would never puchase anything but log or raw. For rec709, yeah, i would pay 26cents, thats fair enough lol
1. If you should youtube videos for your own personal channel. Can you post clips from the same footage onto a stock footage website? 2. Thinking of starting stock footage with a DJI pocket 3, but do clips shot using a full mirrorless lense get better sales? 3. Can you submit your stock footage to multiple stock footage sites?
1. Yes, you still own that content! However I would NOT sell content that you capture for a client. 2. I've had high yielding sales from cell phone footage. Worry less about the gear and more about creating content that people need! 3. Yes but if you do what I do and upload your footage to BlackBox.Global then they will share your stock footage to multiple sites automatically!
