Didn’t like break down , I have 4 kids , she did try from day one.. there was something lacking with him physiologically, she does try!! But gets zero help or empathy… she is also a humane being… this is not the mother’s fault… yes she played a role but seemed to be struggling as much as he is…I don’t like the blame prong on her when she was obviously struggling also, not to mention that she did bond with her daughter, she sure wasn’t that bad😢

I always assumed Mrs Robinson engineered the affair with Ben because she never wanted him to date Elaine, (as was the wish of her husband and Ben's parents).

Really hate that you missed how Chris lashed out on his daughter instead of the boys who degraded him.

Vague thoughts but i doubt he ever "loved" his father but saw him as an easily manipulated tool at his disposal and someone who he could use to turn against his mother as we see thru out the film i don't think he (most likely sociopathy) loved his mother either but eventually came to a begrudging respect for her seeing as she could have abandoned him and disappeared after his crime but never did and she took everything that town did as her penance

Wow amazing video. I strongly believe that GoNY is the best movie EVER made from the art design and costumes point of view. For the rest except for Day Lewis and few other actors for the rest is an absolute abomination. I'm not afraid to say that Cameron Diaz and MOST IMPORTANTLY Leonardo DiCaprio delivered their worse performance EVER that's just my humble thought and has always been. Teofilatto Dei Leonzi

I find it highly distasteful to listen to a person with an accent that is obviously borne of some kind of relationship with the UK analyze America strictly from a viewpoint that is the product of HIS times. As a full-blood Cajun, I freely own being of Immigrant stock..tho my ancestors arrived on these shores as the result of being driven out of France in1685 by the Edict of Fontainebleu, making Protestantism illegal, declared by Louis XIV. MY ancestors arrived in 1723, according to a Diary kept by Solange Therese Thibideaux, wife of Jean Michel Thibideaux. NOTHING is known of their life in France, as agents of the French Crown pursued my kind for what must have seemed like forever. Meanwhile my kind intermarried with the various Indigenous tribes of the Caribbean, and learned that land the Yankees AND Southerners DIDN'T want was rich in creatures that were good for food; that small lots of ground protruding from cypress swamps were ridiculously fertile if you knew WHAT to plant and where...and so my Kind survived. My family aided runaway slaves by building tiny shacks which blended into the swamp...places where clean water in jugs, blankets my ancestors could ill spare left to stay warm in on chilly nights, and dried beef, hardtack and salt were stored in boxes built by hand and waxed to keep moisture and insects out. After the War, free Blacks-not many, but some, were able to walk openly up to my 4× great granpapa's front stoop and thank him. So how DARE you, Mr. Voice From The UK pass judgement on America? The whip marks Ive been told were on my 4X Great-Grandfather's back because he wouldnt betray the Underground Railroad and the fact I was raised to be color-blind tell quite a different tale.

great breakdown, the moment you know it's a horror film is by kevin's increasing self-awareness, a blind spot with most psychopaths, intelligent yes, self-aware, no.. it's hard to be self-aware when you're obsessed with revenge violence, the disconnect of a psychopath, reasoning is distorted by a mixture of a distorted nature and nurture, one's own reasoning has no bearing in empathy.

This movie is my favorite of all time and Quintin is a lil bitch for the way he acts about this. Tarintino is one of my favorite directors of all time but his ego on this shows his character.

I was unimpressed with Hereditary as a story, not because the thematic elements didn’t land, but just because it felt like it didn’t matter what the characters did in the end. Like, sure, most horror movies deal with loss of agency, but crucially a good movie will give sone weight to the decisions of the protagonist; there's at least one moment where they could have changed the course of events, and the fact that (despite or by their intentions) on some level they caused this fate only adds to the sense of disempowerment. But in Hereditary it felt (to me) like all the choices being made were pointless. Whenever a character did something positive, the rules would just change to make it a bad choice; whenever a character didn't give in to darkness, the darkness just did its thing regardless. Even when Peter caused his sister's death, it felt so implausible as a series of events, and not directly linked to his traits as a character (and it was all an inevitable part of the cult's plan in the end). By the end, everyone's bodies were just being puppeteered by a demon, no characters required. To me, this is a problem because denying the characters any agency means the story doesn't say anything about them. If their choices don't matter, then it doesn't matter who they are or what their inner struggles are; the demon doesn't need their permission, it's just gonna spook them up regardless.

I highly disagree. What you described IS the point of the story. It's not a flaw. The characters have no choice because they were manipulated like puppets by an otherworldly creature. That's the horror of the story.

While i enjoyed the film, I think a crucial flaw is that part of the art is saying, "Dont take your medication, abandon your family, it's okay to let go of all that.", and thats been baked into the frwnchise since ghe first film.

8:00 There wouldn’t be much to write about. Remember in Breaking Dawn Part I where Edward explains to Bella how he used to hunt down humans who were rapists, wife beaters, child abusers, con artists, and murderers using that as an excuse? If he met Kevin on a train, he’d wait for him to be alone, and exsanguinate his demented ass, cut and dry.

I liked the detail and insight you gave into one of my all-time favorite films (can see a lot of research went into this) but in terms of some of your criticism my general rule of thumb is if it's needed to spend so long dissecting the nuances of what is so bad (or good) about any art, then youre probably clutching at straws. Particularly your main critique about its narrative/ratial themes is dumbfounded - stories are not obliged to represent an angle that they were not designed to represent, especially just because that apeases a trending topic/issue way after the fact.
