I'm 30, graduated from college and certain that my first vocation is to the sacrament of marriage and lead a holy family, with the help of God. Yet, as I know that I'm not called to the priesthood, what's wrong with looking up to being a deacon? Its all about God's grace and recognizing it when its due. Let those who have different vocations pursue them without guilt.
In a time when the Chancery appears to be ground zero for heresy and nihilism the title of “Bishop’s Man’ has no appeal for this married Catholic. I’ll support my humble parish priest!
It sounds to me that what we then need is a man of service who is truly faithful to Christ, to step forward for ordination. Don't forget... Bishops come and go. In your parish, priests will come and go. A strong deacon, deeply knowledgeable, deeply prayerful and faithful, could be the only true earthly point of stability in your parish. When heresies spread, we need faithful men more than ever. When children are being raised without strong male influences, then we need strong male servant leaders more than ever.
I am currently involved in discernment and contemplation of a 'calling.' However, I am gay man attracted to men, so I feel that I am without, to saving souls as a Deacon...No desire to marry, procreate children, but yet I am willing to serve the Church....Sadly, I am outcast
I’m a devout Catholic, and you are not an outcast. There’s a difference between attraction and acting upon that attraction. I’m attracted to women, but I cannot act on those feelings unless I’m married. We’re all sinners, Church priests, bishops and even popes, too. If you’re calling is to be a Deacon, don’t let your battle of the rejection of your sins stop you. I’m called to become a Deacon, as well, so listen to your calling.
Going thru life is like walking backwards. You can tell where you've been but there is not way to know where you'll end up. You have to trust God for that. Thank you. I needed to hear this.
Thank you Fr. Michael, In discernment for the permanent diaconate in the Orlando Diocese. Through years of prayer and intervention in my life God has made it very clear to me His calling. Pray for us as my wife Tessa and I follow this journey to serve. God Bless William O'Hara
Hello, I'm from Ecuador 🇪🇨 I want to be a priest, I've tried but in my country Ecuador rejects my age, I'm 32 years old, help me do not leave me alone, do not abandon me. please.
Michael, God bless your discernment. Dioceses in other countries may accept you as a seminarian, but you will most likely need to move there and become a part of the local Church there first. Or some religious orders may be willing to work with you. Pray and ask the Lord where he's leading you to serve!
