Okay, five questions. 1. Why is the 'day-night rubber sole' so called? 2. How do the toes 'look after themselves' if the heel-joint fitting is good? 3. Why are the Derby and Oxford lacing systems linked with those particular towns? 4. What's the difference between a 'jacky' boot and a 'chucker' boot? 4. Is Martin wearing an Old Alleynian tie?
These old fashioned shoe/ suit shops are brilliant. These people really know their trade inside out. I fear one day these types of places will no longer exist as people don’t enter into these trades anymore.
To be fair to Martin, he's spot on about the Cheaney chukka, just picked up a pair of Cheaney made Ede & Ravenscroft chukkas.... takes a plop to get my foot in, but once in.. the shoe is glove like! Colour, shape and leather is very very good too... looks more shapely than my Crockett chukkas
I love it when people take such pride and joy in their work. Well done to Cheaney shoes and Co. When I go to London, I will definitely stop by and get some shoes.
I have a pair of boots and a pair of shoes. They are wonderful. The quality is great. The whole experience of wearing them makes me smile. My wife says she can tell by how I walk when I am wearing them.! Look for a pair second hand, get them refurbished by Cheaney and you can’t go wrong. Be aware when buying second hand, Cheaney will not refurbish shoes which have been previously resoled by anyone other than themselves.
You rarely get shoe fitting by distinguished gentlemen like this which is a true loss to British culture in my opinion. Cheaney are an outstanding shoe company along with a full pedigree of other British shoe manufacturers. I really enjoy all my collection and have just returned my Pennines for refurbishment - I really cannot wait I’m like an excited schoolboy ! I think I’ve missed my calling in life lol
saw Martin at a Tesco Express store in London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, and how that video with the ASMR has become a thing but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
What is this man’s name?! Does he still work there?! He’s worked there for so long… I pray he’s still alive. That’s the type of person you want to have live for a long time
I used to sell these shoes in a gentleman's outfitters I worked in. Interesting he pronounces it 'cheeney' as I do, I was told back then it was 'chainey.' I only ever bought two pairs as they weren't cheap, but they were lovely shoes.
