Nice video. My Mk4 reads the original maps from 2002 in CD, however it does not read a totally new genuine 2019 DVD. Do you know if is the same laser head ? What you d recommend given your experience with this? Thanks
Hi, do you know when the fan on the dvd module is kickin in? I looked at it today when i started the car and its not spinning, maybe when it gets too hot, I have no idea?
Hi, I don't know either, never checked this fan operation, but i think as with any other audio video equipment, there is possibility that it might turn on after the unit gets warm.
Yeah I guess so. One more thing, I swapped the dvd mehanism with another one(different code) and its working fine. So maybe it doesnt matter the code if you are replacing the entire dvd mechanism but its a must to check the model of the laser if you are replacing only the laser inside. If we remove the dvd mehanism, they are all with the same boards and chips, I didnt find any difference. Did you find any?
@@ivaylohristov6058 Yes, with optical pick-up laser/lens i would only use exact correct part number, because there are differences in length and design of wiring and connection locations, therefore connection or wiring might not match. With the complete mechanism replacement i would be careful, mainly because some are used in Mk.3 and some Mk.4 Navi computers and there are some differences.
Congrats for the video. At minute 1:24 you disconnect the vacuum hose from the electric vacuum valve (pink hose). Does that hose start from the electric vacuum valve and where does it end? Where is it connected to the other end? I'm asking you because I have that vacuum hose disconnected and I don't know where it should be connected. Thank you
That hose is operating blinds from electric fan which will open blinds when you start engine and close blinds when you stop engine. This hose goes from this this valve into a electric selenoid and from there to a small distribution connector and then finally to a vaccum pump if i remember correctly. Here is diagram: www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BV52-EUR-06-2005-E46-BMW-320Cd&diagId=17_0142 Hope that helps.👍
If you don't use or don't have this hose (number 10 on diagram) connected to electric selenoid your electric fan blinds will stay always closed and when the engine will reach higher temperatures electric fan won't be able to cool down engine properly because blinds will stay closed. If you really don't have other option and you have to drive without this hose, i would suggest to somehow keep open electric fan blinds manually by hand open blinds and support it with some stick and also block/close electric selenoid output hose nipple with tape or heat shrinks as a temporary emergency measure, but i would suggest to buy this 4mm vacuum hose and fit it back.
@@straight_to_the_point7869 thank you, you are really very kind. My engine warms up after 10 minutes in traffic, the fan starts and the temperature needle in the instrument panel starts to rise. Could that loose hose be the cause of the overheating and the fan not stopping?
Hi, Both Eibach pro kit and Meyle and Meyle HD parts are still on the car with no issues at all, there are two versions of Meyle shocks and i use M sport version as my car was factory fitted with M sport suspension. Ride is dynamic, have better cornering, but also is not that hard, except speed bumps where i have to slow down anyway.
@Straight_To_The_Point I am considering M Sport conversion from a tired standard suspension set up. My guees is that I will have to upgrade one of the sway bars as well. I've come across people complaining about the longevity of the MEYLE HD shocks. That is my only concern. Still I want to give them a try. Also, are the Eibach's shorter than the original stock M Sport springs.
e46 320d 110kw M47D20 2004 - useless remove right wheel, useless work thank you. Useless remove any wheel. Unit is under LEFT side car (on right is exhaust).
Wheel or any wheels does not have to be removed, it was subtitled right at that moment with "wheels does not have to be removed.. As i was working on brakes at that time i needed wheels removed. Wish you all the best. 👍
Hi Did you need someone underneath the car holding the tyre iron when you were undoing and torquing the bolt? You must look after that engine as you have a lot of new parts ( water pump, alternator, starter motor & now crank pulley👍)
Hi, yes, car was sitting on axle stands and also supported on heavy duty 3ton jack, second person held tyre iron until flywheel teeth bite tyre iron, after that, second person came out from under the car and i was able to safely push hard and slacken crankshaft bolt. I am planning to keep this car for a long time so i did replaced all vital parts at once. N47/M57 engines are very good "bullet proof" engines. Also in my opinion E46's looks great and getting slowly rare too. Hope that helps. 👍
You should put Testo on the car and check data logs. Judging from the dyno graph it might be over-boosting. Bad tuners never touch the N75 maps, but request more boost. This causes the N75 to try and create boost by over compensating because it's not getting target boost, and ends up over boosting. You might get a fault code for your map sensor because of this. I was chasing my tail for 3 years because of a bad tune put on my car. Finally learned to tune myself and it's now smooth as butter and pulls very strong.
Hi, Yes still have and driving the car, If i push the revs rarely over 4k (popcorn) , it creates some smoke, but it's nothing extreme, but when its driven normally there is no smoke. M47/M57 are very good durable engines.
Hi all 2004 BMW E46 330d changed starter motor yesterday. Fairly straightforward job.. Disconnect battery. Removed engine cover. Removed pollen filter and drip tray. Removed EGR intake 4off sockets headed bolts. Removed injector connectors 6 off and then folded its wiring loom over to nearside engine bay. Remove manifold. Remove 4mm diameter vacuum hoses 3 off Remove glow plug control box but leave plugged in, this gives room for the starter motor to be with drawn use a 3/8 spanner to remove 2 off starter motor fixing bolts (wd40 first) and it's 3 off electrical connections .. starter motor will now come away.. reassemble in opposite order.. you will find a few connectors to disconnect while you do the work but the all come apart and go back easily.. No need to go under car..no need to remove coolant hoses.. no need to remove dipstick..4 hours start to finish..car was labouring on start and running battery down.. it is now back to rights..happy E46ing.. Thanks Alex and Andrew.. and to STTS for posting video
If your Mk4 doesn't eject CD, try to press and hold eject button for 30 seconds, if that doesn't work try to reset navi head unit. If none of above works, there is a chance that CD loading mechanism is stuck or damaged and need replacement of whole CD mechanism which is described in this guide. Hope that helps.
I didn't tune my own files, i purchased custom remap and loaded via MPPS cable. There are many good programs and remapping calculators, but i didn't tried to do it myself.
Hi, If i understand correctly you are asking me about injector replacement? I didn't changed or replaced my injectors they are all standard original factory fitted injectors on my e46 150hp version, on my older bmw e46 136hp version i didn't changed them either. If you are asking regarding remaping injection values, they are processed by a remapping company to your custom requirements. Regards👍
@@straight_to_the_point7869 I want to strengthen my vehicle, but I think because it has 136 hp, there are always obstacles in front of me, it's a bit tiring, frankly.
@@keremtekin3446 M47 136hp engines are great engines, turbocharger still using vacuum, which is easier to work with and cheaper to fix, limitation on 136hp version is high pressure fuel pump Bosch vp44 there is limitation to this high pressure fuel pump. When i remapped my older 136hp bmw i just use decat downpipe and nice remap which could take your car to nice 170-180bhp with nice torque too.
Brilliant video.. This has really helped me. I'm at the final 2 bolts to get the starter motor off can I ask how long your flexi 10mm spanner you used is? I've tried to do it with a standard 10mm rachet spanner but I'm struggling to get the leverage with the small spanner to get them loose. I'm going to order a flexi spanner but they seem short at 16cm
Hi, Thanks, i would say my flexi 10mm ratchet spanner was about 16cm as well, for leverage try to improvise and use a piece of metal pipe over that spanner to extend it or any other similar improvisation idea (piece of wood and soft knocking with hammer etc.) Hope that helps. 👍
Car does not goes into "limp mode", also i have a custom remap, also with my previous other Bmw's i never had any issues when i installed downpipe with o2 sensors on them.
Very interesting video, thanks for the info! I just got myself a 12.2005 320Cd 6-MT RHD with 110k miles on the clock. Will go for the same procedure as you did here! The car is already quite fun to drive but lets see what it can do once tuned!
Dude, I need advice asap, my crankshaft pulley snapped in half!!! Somehow the serpentine belt that runs the alternator and stuff must have jumped or some s*** on to the smooth part of the pulley. And the other belt for the AC just fell off. Can I drive it like this to local garage or is it too risky. Because I don't have tools at home to untorque the unbolt of the crankshaft pulley
I would not risk to drive without a drive belt, because your water pump is driven by this belt and alternator and steering pump as well. If the garage is too far, you might end up stuck in the middle of the road, because your battery will be able to run without alternator just for a limited time and steering without steering pump would be much more harder and mainly without water pump running you may overheat engine... If the garage is within a 1-2km you may risk it, but anything more than that i wouldn't.
My brother just got a 320d e46 already with stage 1 200hp and it's ready to go for stage 2 mapping probably 250hp meanwhile without the map it smokes black smoke, many said bcuz without the mapping the car is burning too much fuel. But pop corn is not bad for disel?
Hi, yes if there is too much black smoke it could be caused by incorrect fuel ratio (burning too much fuel), to be honest since i remapped my car i only used "popcorn" once and never again and yes you are right, it is bad for the engine.
Great video. My E46 320d M47 Tourer has 150k with full service history and remapping was on my bucket list when I got it. As a trained mechanic and electrical diagnostic technician myself you have shown me a clear path forward as something I can now do myself (I am retired !!) This information is extremely usefull although not sure my dog will appreciate the result. Love yours though. Well done. PS. Any chance of some links for the bits needed ?? ;-)
Hi, Thank You for your nice comment, i am glad that this guide is helpful to you, with your experience in electrical diagnostics it should be straight forward, regarding to links which could be helpful to you, google searching and collecting info is a big help, search for remaping tools, there are many tool versions and types, starting from 10eur and it can go to 1000eur+, but for me MPPS cable was good enough and is easily available on ebay, aliexpress and other sellers, but always look for good feedback and quality, regarding remap try to do google search for "postal remaps" make sure you ask all the questions before you purchase any remap service, i think in the comments bellow someone already ask for the link for my exact remap, so if you check them you might find the link for my remap, but if the link doesn't work just do that google search. Hope that helps, wish you all the best. 👍😊
Hi, is the crankshaft pulley from cranktechnics still working fine? I red loads of bad opinions about this brand. I have to change mine and I don't know which one to choose. Thank you for the video
No, i dont have the link its more than year ago when i ordered them from aliexpress. You can find them on aliexpress, ebay etc., also some E46s use different types of bulb fitments (depends on year-check the bulb types before ordering)👍
It's been a couple months, hows it going now? turbo and everything holding up? i've recently done a full engine replacement with newly rebuilt turbo and everything is back to new and im thinking about doing this too. Exact same car as yours. cheers
Hi, Everything works well, no issues with turbo or anything else, did couple of suspension and steering updates/ upgrades and couple other things, all posted in new guide, otherwise everything is bit slow nowadays, hopefully by the summer get up to speed. Yeah definitelly do that, you won't be dissapointed with remap upgrade, Wish You all the best.. 👍😊
