Wella and Justin (Swiss Miss & Hook) thru-hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail (2,189 miles) beginning in March 2017, starting in Georgia and ending in Maine in September. They hiked with Warrior Expeditions, an organization designed to provide nature-based healing approaches for Veterans transitioning from the service. The journey was documented on video and published to this RU-vid channel. Now that we are back home in Alaska look for even more adventures!
You can fish the moose but I cannot remember the specific regulations to it - There were kings in the river but obviously couldn't fish for them. I believe it receives a pink salmon run that pushes pretty far up. I didn't see much in the way of trout or other fish but not saying they aren't in there.
Beautiful vistas! 🤩Looks a bit like Swiss trails and passes…just a lot less humans to encounter. And your camera-stabilizer is awesome! It looks like you’re flying at times! And it’s nice how you match your pictures to the trail map. Very helpful!🙌🏻 Speaking of encounters…was the wildlife friendly?🫎
Thanks so much! No issues with the wildlife. The bear bells help announce your presence ahead of your arrival and I haven't had a negative encounter on that trail yet!
Fantastic to see you out and about again! Hope all is well and you are having fun! Would love to see you in Western NC one day! Or elsewhere! Best of luck, Swiss Miss! Enjoy the voyage!
YAY - a new video by the Jays! Sooo gorgeous! Super cool raft! Nice size fish! Gorgeous sunset! (Also that takes a lot of work to get all those video shots by yourself - good work!). Greg & I just watched it this while having our morning coffee. Good job finally doing this, as it had been on your list for so long. -- Chica & Sunsets
Thanks so much guys and glad you appreciate the shots! Definitely work but I feel like it allows for different takes on the hiking experience for both myself and the viewer (also sometimes just me)! Thanks so much
Great to hear that you applied for the 2024 class! For questions, we recommend reaching out directly to the staff at Warrior Expeditions. Contact information and answers to many of your questions can be found at: www.warriorexpeditions.org
@@JaysontheTrail I took your advice and did email them with a few questions. I would like to thank people like you for taking time out of your life for doing what you do to help and share knowledge of your hikes.
So…I know that this is a special situation hiking on the trail, but does anyone actually eat fresh fruit along the way? Or is it just too heavy and adds too much weight/ spoils too quickly?
It's generally too heavy to carry and/or it spoils too quickly. People that provide trail magic will often offer fresh fruit to Hikers though, which is a huge treat!
I really like how you broke down what a re-supply looks like! That will certainly help a lot of people. I have never heard of Pedialyte (my age and non-us resident status is showing😂) but it sounds like a good way to replenish and balance the body’s electrolytes. 👍🏻
I believe the quote he is referring to in the beginning is a quote by Henry David Thoreau, not Robert Frost. Just to clarify....in case anyone is curious. Such a great, thought provoking quote!
It's funny, all the days and nights on trail, and I've never once made instant mashed potatoes, Knorr sides, or had a wrap of any kind. It's either Ramen with Chicken or a freeze-dried meal for dinner, and something quick and easy for lunch so I can keep moving. Snack tho...snacks are the key! That's where some variety is fun and enjoyable! 🍫🍬🍭🍞🍩🥜🌰🍪🤣🕓
Hahaha. We thought for sure you'd be crushing the food but it makes even more sense that you would keep it light and mobile! Love the effort put into the emojis too!
Wella and Justin are simply amazing..... total respect for them, their military service and continued service to warriors and veterens....Thanks guys for doing this and everything else you do...this crowd will definitely be successful on their hike....looking forward to following along....
Hello Wella & Justin! So great to see you back on the trail with WE! If you need anything along the way in Western NC & environs / VA/ WVA areas (or anywhere) let me know! Safe travels and have a terrific adventure! ❤❤ ~ Meg
Thanks so much, Meg! We are only out for a section hike this time around (accompanying the Warrior Hikers for a little over a week), but we will definitely reach out when we hike that section of trail during a future section hike. Thank you so much for that generous offer ❤
Thanks so much! We can't wait to follow along on your next journey. Look us up if you ever end up in Alaska! (Ps: They are building a 500-mile Alaska Long Trail btw. 😊)
Type 2 fun. Been there, done that. 🤗 Liked the sock wringing at the end. “We paid for this!” What a privilege…privilege is knowing it’s a privilege. Loved the spring’s-acomin’ scenes you took before getting to the shelter, around 5.30 minutes 😍simply beautiful! Great work, Hook and Swiss Miss!
Absolutely! Nothing more mentally and physically difficult then expending all of the effort to move through snow with hardly any progress to show for it
Definitely see the merits in section hiking! Good job you guys! And fingers crossed on that international hike later this year! Also loved seeing our pic at the end. ☺️💙
You guys are awesome....your videos are outstanding, followed your full thru hike and this section...planning on doing this exact section next summer....please keep the episodes coming, and THANK YOU BOTH for your service to our country...my son is in Army basic training headed to college and ROTC...yall are an inspiration in many ways..hike on
Thank you for our kind words - We are very thankful to have you with us! And that is OUTSTANDING for your son! Best wishes to him through Basic & his Army journey!
Damnit! I'm way behind on these videos! Something about hearing your intro music gets a massive wave of nostalgia kicking up inside! Probably because 2017 was an exceptional year for vloggers! You two were so fun to watch that year! Can't wait to catch up on these!🤘🕓
Greatly appreciate your kind words! We were discussing how 2017 was such a fun year for vloggers with Chica & Sunsets! We got some 5AM starts on this trip and were reminiscing about watching your videos in February before we stepped off in March. Great times!
