There's always Tabletop simulator. There is an amazing TTS mod for the game. It is used for a lot of organized play events. It also allows pale to play "split games" where you break the game up over several smaller sessions
I went to the store and couldn't believe the price over a hundred bucks for the board game that only has feds , Klingons and Romulans. Expansion factions are around 40 bucks each. I'm sorry but that game must have been invented by Ferengis.
Pretty standard for games these days. This one has a large number of components and miniatures as well. That said, you can often find the base game for around $80 which is a steal for what you get. As for the extra factions, you can often find them for well below MSRP as well. I don't think I paid more than $20-25 for any of the add on factions other than the Dominion, but that one came with a full expansion to the game with new play modes and other bits.
Thanks for the breakdown! I've watched Attack Wing with interest from the sidelines for years now, but as you mentioned elsewhere, it's hard to find the best on-ramp for cheap. I'm happy to see the majority of the materials are in this first box. In your estimation, would buying all 3 Alliances boxes be a reasonable way to start the main attack wing game too? Seems like you get all the materials (roughly) and a bundle of ships. The main thing putting me off, bluntly, is the price. Especially because their best content seems to go out of stock, making it hard and expensive to get a handful of ships for multiple factions.
It will definitely get you a nice starting amount of ships, depending on the factions that you are interested in. I should point out that the first Alliance set does NOT come with the maneuver dials for the Jem Hadar Attack Ships, making them kind of useless in attack wing, but the other two sets do come with them. I'm not sure why they did that. There are also some single faction starter sets that you can find here and there for a reasonable price. They are also a good way to get started if you can find the one for the specific faction that you are interested in.
Either you have covered every board game in existence, or we have very similar tastes in games. Somehow I stumble across a review you’ve done by every game I pick up or look into haha. You’ve even responded to me on BGG in the past! My buddy found me the Deadlands version (which I am a huge fan of the setting). I had never heard of this game system but I am pretty stoked to check it out! Thanks for all the content you’ve done over the years!
Maybe you just have excellent tastes in games, lol. I have been doing this off and on for several years, so I do have a lot of games that I have covered over the years. Some take longer to get around to making a video for (like this one) than others. I still have about 300 games on my shelves that I haven't made videos of yet, so there is plenty more to come. Thanks for watching.
Yes, except for the plastic plano box of course. There is a full foam core insert available to purchase now for the game called the "docking station" or something like that. It's pretty nice.
@@g10ronaldinho www.foldedspace.net/store/xia-legends-of-a-drift-system/ That's the folded space one for xia. It's kind of made specifically for this game, but you could use it for other things I suppose. You might be better off just buying some sheets of fiance and making exactly what you need though. Just need a ruler, a exacto knife/box cutter, some basic emlmer's glue and a pencil.
Thanks for your videos. I bought the rerelease on Gamefound a couple years ago. Finally set to be delivered this Fall. Any chance you can add a playthrough video before then?
I don't generally do playthrough videos. I think I only have one on my entire channel which wasn't very popular and I didn't like the way it turned out. There are lots of other people who do though. Lots of bug and small channels have covered the game over the years with several really good "how to play" videos out there.
@@Trueflights any video you particularly like? So far, I’ve found that a lot are solo play, which I will probably not do much of, or the comments are full of error warnings.
@@g10ronaldinho The dice tower had a very good one (it was paid for, so they kind of have to make sure it is done right. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gl9TpUB07rg.htmlsi=xI9Lm-1Yr3rsfM1v Bored online Board offline has another good one, though they did have a mistake right at the beginning during setup (that I questioned in the comments). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BCZu1l9541k.htmlsi=ubCrGZDe_eZ6Rqp1 Those are Both for Embers of a Forsake Star, since you were asking on this video. If you were looking for something from the base game, there are many more since it has been out so much longer.
@@g10ronaldinho Also, the solo play ones are perfectly fine. All of the rules are exactly the same, the solo play just adds a couple new things (like varied AI for the NPC's, Scoring for the NPC's and a goal card to give you a set goal that you are trying to achieve (vs the normal game where it is just a race to be the first to reach a set amount of VP and you cna do it however you want).
They are holding up better than I was expecting. There is some chipping along the edges though, most noticeable on the red Horus tiles. No more than I think cardboard ones would have after months of use though. I think it wouldn't even be an issue if they had left a small boarder around the tiles instead of painting them right to the edge like they did.
Hi. Thanks for the great video. I got a question though. you said in the description : " I have also since replaced the bigger tray that holds all of the cards with smaller individual trays that can be put right on the table during play " While I was looking at the files to print, I couldn't figure out how these individual boxes fit in the place of that bigger tray which they replace. They need about 94 mm in width when placed next to each other but that bigger box which they replace only had a 74 mm width. Would appreciate it if you could shed some light on it. Thanks.
I turned them sideways in the space (so that the cards are oriented the same direction as they would be in the big tray) in two rows of two, then one rotated 90 degrees at the end. They actually fit with a little extra space to spare. So 5 trays in all (not sure which combination or sizes exactly). Something like this; _ _ I _ _ I can post a picture somewhere and link it here when I get a chance.
Spent a long time reviewing the pros and cons of every TI4 organizer before I started and this one was the clear winner. I decided to print all 8 player storage boxes in the 8 different colors of the game and I'm on 5 of 8 right now with everything else printed and organized. Really love it, will be uploading a make on thingiverse this week and will post a link to it.
The player boxes look great in the player colors. I was cheap and black is half the price of other colors, so I tend to use that for large projects like this though. Be sure to check out the couple changes that I made to the insert in the description which makes room for the extras from codex 1 2 and 3 (including a fully printed out Keleres faction).
Back again , just finished playing all 5 domion a i cards vs feds 4 ships 2 constitution , prometheus, sovereign name classic scottie, all pure . Big game a.i lost 4 ships only jemmy battleship nearly untouched? No feds lost but both capital ships bably damage lol ..... the a.i alliance jem cards are very good and get surprisingly good .... later
This video was from Attack Wing, years before they released Alliance and the AI. They did do a good job with the AI stuff for Alliance though. I wish the squadron thing was a little less fiddly, but it works for what it is. We have messed around with using the random ai cards in normal Attack Wing games and they seem to work pretty good for the most part. They work best against stripped down base versions of the ships though. As soon as you start putting points into upgrades, weapon, and crew combos, they become super easy to defeat. Still good for practice games and trying out new fleet ideas though. I hope that they continue to release new Alliance content in the future. Maybe a Borg invasion the Xindi war next?
Frag is one of the 'everytime we meet' games; ours is a group of Quake & Unreal friends. Frag and Wizwar. Mine didn't come with a container for the pieces, and somethings I added are paperclips in place of the ammo tokens, and a pack of 6 colored dry-erase!
I mean, in theory they both existed at the same time, just not as Dax. They were both alive at some points at the same time, just without their Symbiote. No reason that they couldn't have met at some point.
Looks interesting. I think I'll pick this up. It'd be better for me if they had a knife thrower instead of an archer but an archer will work. (I'm a real life knife thrower.)
There is a new set on Kickstarter right now that is based on the RU-vid show "Adventure is Nigh!". One of the characters in that one is obsessed with knives. They are completely compatible with the normal RDI games as well. Best part is that they are making two versions, one with the art style from the show and one that matches the style of art in Red Dragon Inn.
Amazing, thank you for this! Eagerly awaiting mine in the UK and so glad to see you do it! Been rewatching your videos for firefly recently and this tops it off! 😃
likely not. Most of the stuff has been out of print for a while now. They are having a crowd funding thing for a Collectors edition later this year, along with a new, final race expansion. There is a good chance that they will make the hard to find items available again during that campaign
@@martinjukic1986 they were advertising it as the final version of the game complete with a new race. Maybe i read more into it than was intended, but it would be strange for them to introduce a large storage solution to hold everything for the game... only to then release new content for the game that won't fit in it.
@@Trueflights Well I guess we will just have to wait and see. I think if this sale goes well and see people are still very interested in the game I don't think they will say no to more money in the future. :D As far as introducing more races that will not fit in to the box well there are many races they could add in the future and lets face it if they do that there is no box that would be practical that could hold everything :) Oh and thank you for the videos :D
I think so, but to be honest, I do not know for sure. I did not buy Lockdown. I know they had a conversation kit for the characters, but I'm not sure about the various aliens.
The only bad thing is she can't use her heal abilities to herself. Every other one is on full health and have no infections with her but she self die for the same reasons. It makes no sense. It's a bit like the spacesuits in Nemesis Lockdown which take up one hand place as a heavy item. As if the spacesuit only had one sleeve.
I'm sure that is the plan for future expansions. This was just the Dominion War. I bet we will see other conflict sets come out in the future with with various new enemies.
Still have it. I don't even thing the cards have been unsealed. In the About section of my RU-vid page, under channel details there is a business e-mail. Shoot me a message and we can talk.
I love the review I am just getting into RDI getting my first physical copy with RDI 6! One note is Doctor Terci uses They/Them pronouns instead of She/Her
Always great to hear about new people joining the fray. So many interesting characters to get into. I must have missed the pronoun thing, but I assure you that it was unintentional. Most everything that I read about Terci always referred to them by name in the third person, so I never knew.
@@Trueflights that's perfectly fine slug fest didn't make a big deal but it says "unfortunately most of their patients operate on a barter system. . ." For the bad it's just snuck into their like story text on their deck divider
No Star Trek starship combat game in the last 40 years has come close to being as good as Starfleet Battles, which is also a miniatures game. SFB will always be the gold standard. This is true, the publisher's inability to market the game well notwithstanding.
I've play SFB. It is a good game. I don't agree with it being the gold standard, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I'm one of the minority that thing the Attack Wing system is better than its predecessor, X-Wing. I think it is also far from the best though. To be fair, I would probably argue that Battlefleet Gothic is probably one of the better systems out there, but it has it's issues. Dropfleet Commander is probably the best I can think of (if you ignore the ground part and only bother with the space battles). It is actually the reimagining of BFG since it was made by the same person and has a lot of similar rules. It also has the added bonus of having some of the best starship miniatures ever made. Honorable mention to Full Thrust, but it isn't all that well known. It is a fun system though with a lot of factions available and even a way to create your own.
@Trueflights Full Thrust rocked too, and Siment Death. My point really is that modern starship combat games seem more about aesthetics than rules or tactical depth. Warhammer 40K epitomizes this. Getting good at a game that requires more intelligence is so much more rewarding but I honestly think many wargamers today don't think that way.
You can flip the ship vertically on the purple ship card to change the shape of the ship from the looks of it. Thanks for making this video, it's great to see all the new components and pieces. Cheers mate.
Ahhh that's cool. My regular board game crew have been playing the standard 2e version of the game and I was checking out reviews of the expansion box. Different ship facing is a nice feature. Cheers@@Trueflights
@@Trueflights I should have been clearer... The tray for the sleeved faction selection cards. The last tray you pull from the box in the video and had to modify to fit everything evenly.
@@ItzKnotEz2BMe ah, I could look for it. Any standard sized card tray should work. I think the one I used was an extra that I had printed for a "The Captain is Dead" insert. I don't happen to have to exact file handy, but I'm sure I could find it again if I looked hard enough.
@@Trueflights If you have a moment, I'd appreciate it. Just got my 3D printer and this was my first project... Trying to get everything TI4 in one box!
@@ItzKnotEz2BMe sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I used the "TCiD-Alerts.stl" tray from www.thingiverse.com/thing:2352989 As I mentioned, you will need to clip off a slight bit of the height to make things fit, but it is super simple to do that after printing so you can make sure it fits perfect.
They are just basic D10's. I ordered a bunch from online in colors that I found that best matched the player faction colors. Most are pretty close though, so it worked out well.
These original ones were done with a khaki brown. Couldn't tell you the actual name as it was years ago and I no longer have it. I have printed several sets of these for friends though and often we use black for the Terran Empire.
they were created by the fan community for the game over at Board Game Geek. The actual cards and files were added to the Unofficial Complete Rulebook 3.0 and the models were designed by Frank and can be printed out anywhere with a 3d printer (Library, school, personal 3d printer, or a local maker space). Links to the files are in the description.
They can be, but at the same time the maneuver templates actually make it feel like you are flying a ship rather than just moving around a grid. As much as I like the old hex based systems, this works so much better to simulate flight. Aeronautica Imperials was a recent game that tried to use a hex based system to represent flight and it kind of fell flat for most people.
@@Trueflights Yeah, not sure what it’s like to fly a ship. I’m a veteran of several of the tactical maneuver systems. I have the original Wings of War WWI, XWing 1.0 and 2.0 and SW Armada. I still have the FASA Tactical simulator, Talon, Full Thrust, SFB and Fed Commander. I recently picked up Trek Attack Wing. There is quite a bit to appreciate about all of them. What I have found is that the simultaneous impulse movement system and diverse firing arcs of the original SFB is pure elegance. No firing opportunity is missed if one masters maneuver. Firing arcs and range is easy to determine by looking down a hex row or spline and counting. Looking back, I’m finding that I really dislike the card play in some of these games. The more of the newer games I play the more I appreciate the original mechanics.
@@bneil4059 If you played X-Wing, then you know that this is the exact same system from that game. They have made some fine tuning to the upgrade mechanics (mostly when it comes to crew, since you have a much larger ship with more crew options), but overall it is the same game. I personally prefer X-Wing when it comes to most things like this, but I feel that the small upgrades that they made to the system make Attack Wing a much better game overall. I just wish that they would take those ideas and add them into X-Wing. 2.0 was not the answer we were looking for.
I use Sleeve Kings perfect fit sleeves (the ones that are 60 microns thick). They are a tight fit as far as thickness goes. I have removed a couple of the dividers to make more space. I can definitely see people having issues if they are using anything thicker than those. Anything thinner than that might help though.
to be fair, at first I thought you were referring to the promo packs that had a couple new tiles for the game. I was going to say that I've long since mixed those in with the other stuff. I didn't even realize that a new expansion had been released for the game. They did a terrible job of advertising it. I will definitely pick it up at some point and cover it, but I have to see if I can even find it for sale anywhere first.
I just finished a game as the Cardassians. This has got to he the worst faction in the game. Like I couldn't tell if the faction just super sucked or I did, because I had to read over their rules a dozen times to see if I was simply missing something. They are SO punishing with little to no positive balance.
They feel very similar to the Klingons in their aggressiveness, but they do have some major limitations. Some of their Advancements can compensate for this a bit, but there are definitely one of the more difficult races to play as. I've always been a fan of them, so I might give them a bit more of a chance than some people. They definitely do take a lot of skill to play successfully though due to their penalties.
This has to be the best insert ever created for TI4, because is super useful for using directly in the table, and compared to how much most inserts cost online, 2.5 spools of ASA or PETG is not bad at all
I agree. Huge thanks to @widdershins81 who posted here in the comments, and is the original designer of this insert. The only thing that I ended up changing on mine was to break up the box that holds all of the cards into smaller ones that were easier to just use at the table where they were needed. Links are in the description to those files as well.
Klingons ❤ great ship I no you don't mix but evil mirror sulu is must for free target and my choice cloak. ........❤...... to easy and that without a captain or anything, ,,,,,,, win .
