So, I don't know you and this is the first video I've watched of yours, but I feel like I should say something because there's points of yours I agree with and points of yours where I think you're wrong. Just to preface, I've been collecting for many years, I have probably 500 bottles, and I am not an influencer, just a guy with a hobby. That said... Major points up front: Elitism in fragrance is stupid and no one needs to own any fragrance at all, frankly. It's smell good juice, so who cares? Wear what you like or even nothing at all. Normal people have between 0 to 4 bottles. Anything over that and you're a collector. Now, do you have to spend $300 on a fragrance? Of course not. You also don't need to treat yourself to a nice dinner or own a nice mattress or suit. They're comforts because we all exist for a little while and then never again and sometimes we want a treat for existing. A single 100ml bottle will last you a very long time, even as a daily sprayer, and especially if it's something like Ombre Leather where you only need one or two sprays. My advice: If you're interested in fragrance, I have no advice. Have fun and spend responsibly which is the same thing you could say for any hobby. If you're only going to own a couple of bottles, then no, don't get the cheapest thing for the sake of it. Spend within your means, obviously, don't take out a loan for a nice bottle, but the idea that a 10 dollar rack store fragrance is on the same level of quality as a Tom Ford is ludicrous. Since you brought up aromachemicals vs natutals, I can utterly assure you that the ratios are not the same. And you never want too much of one or the other. Too many naturals, the fragrance won't perform, too many aromachemicals and it becomes synthetic in a bad way. High end fragrance has a roughly 70/30 ratio and with Tom Ford in particular they even list the aromachemicals used so its not even conjecture. Cheapies tend to have to use mostly aromachemicals because quite frankly it's the only way to make them cheapies. And again, I'm not dunking on cheapies, I have many that I love, but they're not the same. The most important point though is that you've framed this as fragrance as basically deodorant and that's where it's dangerous. Because yeah, if all you care about is smelling good, that's fine, but that's not the hobby. The fragrance hobby is about scent memory and the artistry of fragrance creation and experimenting and trying to create a new color in your mind by way of your nose. You're making the point that a t-shirt print with SpongeBob as a gangster is the same thing as Van Gogh because they're both pictures on a flat surface. It's fine to get a chuckle out of the SpongeBob picture, but they're not in the same category, and to speak as if they were is to show a fundamental lack of understanding of the thing you're talking about. I love old comic books, not everything I see belongs in the Louver, there's room in my life for both. But I can also understand and appreciate the difference, and I'd never tell someone to not buy art that speaks to them. If you don't view fragrance as art, your video is largely correct. If you do, then this advice is not good.
Interesting I came to read one of Marcel’s replies and just saw this. Is this really something someone can be “right” or “wrong” about though? If someone’s primary goal is trying to save someone money as Marcel often puts it on the channel and even in this videos comment section, then how is that necessarily wrong? You mention art but can you not also appreciate and value cheap art? Comics are cheap but contain some icon pieces of artistic imagery. My son loves spider man and I have seen some beautiful art inside the pages of a comic that I wouldrate above something in a museum. It is subjective. So I just disagree with Marcel being wrong here. I never reply to these but in this case I felt obligated to here 😅😅
Just thought I’d mention it here too. I used AI to clean up the wind noise but in doing so it occasionally makes my voice sound weird in the moments where it’s really windy. All in all I think the tool did a decent job😅
I’m just saying that you can compare those two but the cheaper fragrance is cloning a very mass appealing DNA that is ultra male, so I’m saying is to get a brand like Nike or adidas branded fragrance that is more on the original side, instead of trying to make a point with two fragrances that are popular one being ombré leather and the other being JPG Ultra Male as that is how you are truly judging those two fragrances and seems unfair as I’ve tried fragrances that are original but cheap and they smell like their price point. Cheap.
I know what you're getting at but why does it matter that it's a clone of a more expensive, if anything, that makes it an even better example of value as it smells like something more expensive but at a cheaper price. When I made this video, it was about comparing based on price point and for many that's the most important factor alongside whether or not the fragrance smells good. If you've only got $15 to spend on a fragrance you're not going to worry too much as to whether or not the fragrance is a "clone" of something more expensive, are you? There's a lot of great examples of cheap fragrances that smell great and also have an original DNA, plenty of members of the community here have linked some down below. Nike Ginger Tonic is a good example of that within the Nike line of fragrances. The content I create here on RU-vid is almost exclusively designed to help those that are trying to save money but still want to smell great. As I mentioned above, and as I'm sure most here would agree, whether or not something's a clone of something else isn't the primary consideration when selecting a fragrance. Anyway, thank you for the comment and for providing me with an opportunity to elaborate and share my thoughts.
Fragrances are a hobby of mine. So i definitely spend more then i should. But i like doing it. For anybody just getting into it for the reactions, yes definitely 20 dollars can be enough but you will have to look a little harder. But for 100 bucks you can basically walk into a store and buy everything for that price and you will smell good
This is why i buy a lot of Bujairami. This is also why he is absolutely killing the market. I smelt Nautica Voyage and Cool Water yesterday for the first time. They actually didnt smell bad at all.
Guys, the man is right! I have some cheap ones, I have some well priced ones, I have some more expensive ones....I can go to work one day wearing Maison Margiela's Jazz Club and have chicks following me around. The next day, I can put on Lattafa's Asad and get the same response. Completely different price point but the response is the same. I'm also glad Marcel talked about matching up your smell with your clothing because that's a real thing. Wearing a tracksuit? Maybe don't wear a darker, warmer fragrance. Wearing a suit and tie? Maybe don't wear a fun smelling fragrance. Work it out situationally. Weather is another aspect to be taken into consideration, to a point. Some smells go better with certain weather situations but, to be fair, wear what you wear where the weather is concerned! (Say that 5 times...) The biggest thing I'd ask you to take from the advice given here is positivity.... This is the big one... you can wear the best smelling, most expensive, beast mode, "holy shit!" fragrance ever.... but nobody will want to come near you if you're a miserable fucker. No fragrance will make you approachable. Fragrance is an addition to you and if you're unapproachable..... mate, you're the only one smelling it. Cheap or expensive. Cheaper ones I'd recommend are these, and these are ones I can hand-on-heart say I get good feedback from: Al-Hambra - Glacier Bold, Tobacco Touch Al Haramain - Detour Noir Armaf - CDN Iconic, CDN Intense Man, CDN Sillage Burberry - Touch for men Lattafa - Asad, Asad Zanzibar, Fakhar, Raghba Wood Intense Missoni - Pour Homme, Wave Montblanc - Legend Spirit (the white bottle) North Stag - Expressions IV Quatre (my little'n wanted a 'smell nice' after her bath the other evening and she chose this one. She still smelled of it the next day and it's such a pleasant smell!)
Cheers for the recommendations, mate, and thank you for your addition to the conversation. It just goes to show how many amazing fragrances are out there, most of which people wouldn’t ever consider because it’s a brand they may not recognise! That’s why we’ve gotta sing their praises whenever we can!💪🏼
@@AussieMarcel thank you for bringing the truth of being a positive and approachable person into the mix. So many reviewers, creators etc leave this out and it's made a whole bunch of guys think that if they buy a smelly, it'll attract people to them when it's the personality that is most important. Even I overlooked that because I thought it was a given. Thanks again bud, keep the vids coming!
Hey man. Chemist Warehouse just added a new Nike fragrance on their website called Sun & Wood for men. No reviews online yet and I'm keen to know if it is a clone of anything before I buy it. Cheers.
1:54 exactly! I'm so tired of people saying a "good" collection is one where there's a $200+ fragrance from each high-end house + several more niche fragrances. Someone who buys $10 body mists probably gets more compliments than they do. Thanks for everything you share here btw :) Edit: since probably mostly men watch your videos ill share that 2 of my favourite cheap mens fragrances are Police to be Tattooart and Police to be Camouflage
Couple of my affordable favorites up till today are ARMAF Hunter intense EDT/EDP and ARMAF italiano Nero Uomo EDP. Not to forget AJMAL Kuro EDP which i prefer much-much more over WHISKY Black Op EDT. To smell good, it is not necessary for us to spend arm and leg. We just need to find a good deal based on our own budget.
adidas champions intense EDP i can´t finde only in 50 ml i go for 100 ml and only one store in Denmark has this sold out in 50 ml, love Old Spice original hey only the aftershave in Denmark comes with no atomizer evert EDT has an atomizer but i heard the real OG Shulton is way better only on E-bay sold from US expensive Tabac any of them
@@ScentofSwedenClosetotheocean I would recommend trying it first. It’s an older style fragrance. I’m older( ‘60s) and tried it before I bought it, about to start my 2nd bottle.
Lapidus Pour Homme is nice for the money. I agree, it's an older style scent, but the sweetness of the vanilla/tonka bean may definitely appeal to someone younger, too.
Glad you enjoyed the video, mate. I pay for everything myself💪🏼The only products I've ever received for free to review were from a company called Dossier and they were all pretty good. I've had a lot of companies get in touch with me, asking me to review and showcase their products, but only one was willing to ship to Australia lmao
@@AussieMarcel Thank you for your answer, I ask because I value your opinion, and I do appreciate your transparency, for now you and Les Oderants are my favourite channels. I cant stand the "influencers" trying to smear their opinion on to you. Have a great day! CTTO; Scent of Sweden
@@ScentofSwedenClosetotheocean Thank you, mate. That means a lot! My family is from Norway! Maybe we're distantly related, haha. I dislike influencers too as the vast majority are only interested in making money. I'm a Punk Rock kid at heart and only care bout saving people money which is why I so often talk about cheap fragrances. I'd rather save someone $10 than make $10 myself.
Network always smelt a little too synthetic to me but it isn't bad and for $10 how can you go wrong! Lomani Pour Homme can be found for the same price and is a great alternative to Drakkar Noir. Smells great and is masculine!
Good review. I own both and enjoy them a lot. I do think the hate for one million edt was un needed though. It may be overplayed but its a legendary scent.
Cheers, mate. I just dislike it. If I can speak freely about what I like then it stands to reason I can mention what I dislike too💪🏼It's overplayed here in Australia. I imagine there are a lot of people here that feel that way about Sauvage, or Aventus, or other popular scents too.
It's interesting to hear your thoughts during that 'insane' period. I may be wrong but your reaction could be different now if put in that position again?
Do they perform better? I find they perform significantly better. Do they smell better? That’s too subjective to give a definitive answer. I find Nike to be more youthful but Beckham to be more sophisticated (insofar as a $15 fragrance can be, of course).
I would say be kind to yourself. There was a lot of trauma and I was punishing myself for that. And like what you said just be yourself....the ones who like who we truly are they are the ones worth keeping in your life.
I agree. The other day I wore my Mugler Alien which I can usually smell all day but hubby wore quorum and it outperformed Alien easily. This summer I'm on the hunt for a great fresh, aquatic fragrance and I'm over women's weak perfumes. I'm going to try men's EDT from now on.
I knew I was doing the right thing buying cheapies when I watched a fragrance influencer recommend a $550 summer perfume for beginners, without even mentioning the price.... Chemist Warehouse is amazing. I've found far more interesting scents free for testing on the shelves than i have behind the locked cabinet too.
