can you make a video explaining how you would play rhythm over a single chord or two chord jam? I struggle with just playing block chords over and over and I don't know how to play more musically. For context I am the keyboard player in a jam band so very similar music to this.

I think the original request came in on one of the rando keyboardist discussions that occasionally pop up on r/Phish, I am almost always involved in those 😁 - sadly I don't think there are enough of us to have a strong phish keyboardists sub (though I'd love to be wrong about that)
Hey Andrew could you make a gear video? Looking to upgrade from an entry level Yamaha to something with a bit more versatility and jamming with a very similar set of songs/styles as most of your videos. You seem to have found the right balance of a few different versatile keyboards
thanks so much for that! I could go on forever aboutthe issues I have with most piano instruction... I really wish more teachers would approach it like how guitar is usually taught - with more of a focus on chord theory, scales and improvisation

you the man ... i sit in my basement with my face in a computer screen and my keyboard all the time i just don't know what im doing .. lol some stuff tho Man im 43 where was thjis when I was in high school do you know how long ikt took me to even grasp it was "OK" to just flip flop Minor and Major, or throw in 7ths whenever I wanted .. i bet it took me a year to figure out to get rid of all those thirds anyways thanks man

This is one of those songs that rewards HOURS of practice and discipline, especially if you want to take it at the (as-written) 192bpm. It seems impossible at first BUT STAY WITH IT!!!!
These lessons are phenomenal! Learned Borne and Silver Rising this weekend. Was able to use both those lessons as a springboard for Hungersite on my own. Please keep the Goose content coming! A lesson on their cover of Half Step would be my early Goosemas wish

Thank you so much! I'm in very early days of learning piano, I have a long way to go. But, it's been fun to work on that outro melody (which I agree is among the most beautiful Trey has written) as a way to learn notes. It helps to have the emotional connection to the music (for decades of my life!) as a way to motivate sitting down at the piano. I appreciate you walking through it note-by-note. Getting the left hand and chords going is a goal for me for the next several months. More videos of other "pretty" Trey melodies (Horn, parts of Divided Sky, etc.) in the future would be great. Thanks!
100% - I'm a huge fan of "pretty" Trey. The only thing holding me back from doing Divided Sky is the palindrome section at the beginning, I just haven't taken the time to pick that all the way apart yet. I'm so glad you're playing piano, I always think students learn best when they're working on music they're passionate about, even if it's above their level. Keep at it!
Andrew; thanks very much for these videos. I used to be a huge fan of the band back in the day, but haven't listened to them for years and years now. I've been messing around with keyboards recently and your videos have been very helpful. If you do requests could I please ask for a vid on Roggae or Frankie Says? Story of the Ghost was my fave Phish record by far. and I'd love to learn these tunes.

love this channel man! this was my first goose show, love what you’ve done for videos for phish as well! would love a page lesson for 2001. one of my favorite phish tunes everytime i hear it, and pages part is super sick. the 2001 from 8/26/23 was pretty awesome but any version would do!
That goose show was great, right? I've gotten a few requests for 2001 and will definitely do that soon. I love Page's part on that, wish I hadn't sold my old Rhodes piano, it would have been perfect 😊
@@andrewnorth1983 it was a great show i loved it so much i followed them to spac the next night. and damn! the Rhodes sound is pretty ideal for it but a clav can go a long way on it
