BRAND NEW MPI MBTX F40PH-3C 1033. Recently back in Boston after having major overhaul work done out west in Pennsylvania as part of an extension rebuild that makes the F40s look almost brand-new.
Actually, all of MBTA’s F40 units are undergoing a mid-life overhaul by WABTEC in Erie, PA. 1067 is testing at Erie with a black heritage scheme and 1027, 1030, 1034, 1036, 1055, 1059, 1071 and 1072 are all in various stages of being rebuilt in the shop. MPI won the bid in June 2017 to overhaul 10 F40PH-2C and F40PHM-2C units. In May 2019, the program was expanded and all F40PH-2C/F40PHM-2C locomotives would be rebuilt to F40PH-3C specifications by December 2021. The overhauls are still being performed under MPI but in a different location. 1030, 34 and 36 all should be close to completion, but don’t know what the status is with 1027, 1055 and 59 in the shop. 1071 and 72 will possibly ship back to Boston next May. I want them back in March of 2025, is that too much to ask for MPI.
Loving the P42s in phase 7 paint, super cool to see them moving into the DMV and beyond the midwest! (also fun to hear the next generation of railfans with you there, I think we were all those kids once)
Cool catches of VRE P315, Amtrak P085, Amtrak P019 with the Phase VII duo of an ALC-42 and a P42DC, CSX coal train & Amtrak P097 at L'Enfant Plaza Station!
Lucky find! Just saw the money train in person for the first time ever yesterday! It was in the Alexandria yard, so I’ve still never seen it in motion!
I did! Filmed a whole video there and everything! Apparently Randy Clarke was there, but even though I was there for hours I never saw him! Amazing event though, hoping I also get to go to the one at Branch Ave!
Wow! I’ve never seen the Money Train in person! I mean I have. But I’ve only seen the old Money Train which was Rohr 8002-8003! Before it got retired in 2019!
It’s a shame these were wrapped in silver, the yellow was an icon of the system, although you can still tell the money train apart from the other silver-wrapped trains because the fronts are also silver instead of the usual brown… that and typically the money train is the only 4-car train that runs in the network
I have a fun idea. Why don’t you go to the description, click on the part that says, “check out my main channel.” There you’ll find a video with narration. Then come back and delete this comment.
@@Thom_Extra Looks like Thom is a bit sensitive to what was meant as a constructive criticism. I don't think most viewers go to the description after watching a video. Sorry if I offended you.
Shame I missed that! Love those trains when I get to ride them. Starting next year we should see them here in Amersfoort (my home town) as a fixed fixture on the Schiphol Airport trains 😍
Great railfanning! Since VRE doesn’t have through-running service to Maryland, that VRE train at 6:57 must be coming from the Ivy City yard north of the station.
