I take Metoprolol to help regulate my heart rhythm and heart electrical blocks on both left and right ventricles. My doctor just changed the amount I take because my heart was beating too slow.

hello, thanks for posting your story. Im 80,with 3.9 ascending aneurysm and very active in the gym .Was told to avoid weight lifting which i've done all my life so a big change for me to try and slow growth . You didn't mention ,you being a gym person too if you have started training again and if so what are you doing. I'm trying to do light weight with controlled breathing and cardio at a slow pace. Doctor told me to come back in a year to measure growth so im not at a critical place yet. Hope to hear from you . thanks tom

Wow, this happened to me a year ago. I woke up with pain in my chest and did not think anything of it and that my blood pressure was high. Later that day the pain came back to my chest and then traveled to my back. Drove to the ER and tests and x-rays were ran. It was discovered my aorta was torn and I bleeding internally. I required emergency surgery and it was discovered my valve was trashed and my heart was enlarged. I had a aneurysm that was going to my neck. I now have a mechanical valve and now take warfin for the rest of my life. Any one deals with the psychological effects that you constantly worry something is wrong with you when it’s not?

I am on a beta blocker (labetalol) to control my blood pressure. I will be evaluated for surgery at the end of June. Please pray for me! 🙏 Thank you for the positive outlook on life! ⚘️

Just had open heart surgery less than 2 weeks ago. The hospital I went to was top notch. The 3rd day the nursing staff gave me a sponge bath. In another video I saw, a patient said if they offer u a sponge path, take it. It will make u feel a better so I did & she was right.Day 4-6, the nursing staff would bring me & a chair to the bathroom so I could wash myself-face, arms, armpits, private area. The nurse washed my back & bottom if I had trouble. Then a fresh hospital gown was put on. It did make me feel better. I did bring my own wet wipes but I didnt need to use them. They comes very helpful after you need to go #2 bc you want to clean your butt & the wet cloth just makes things so much easier. Just toss them into the trash not the toilet. If you dont have any, ask the nursing staff to bring you some or ask a relative to pick up wipes or buy them b4 you go in for any surgery. Walmart sells them very cheap. You can just buy 1 pack or you can buy a pack or 3 or 6. They are good to wash yor face, hands, butt, etc. They are also good for car trips. In fact, I keep the Walmart wipes around my house & in my car all the time. You can't keep your hands too clean these days as covid is still out there. Dont worry about clothes . You should be in a fresh hospital gown every day. You will probably have 3 chest tubes in you like I did & when they get pulled out it might be a little messy. I also had a temporary pacemaker with wires to my heart & when that gets removed, it's the same thing. Thats why I say forget about button down clothes for the hospital. You only need fresh clothes to go home in.

Hi Kel, I suffer from PTSD and panic disorder/w agoraphobia, and my heart rate is constantly hovering around 100 bpm. My question is... Is it okay to take this with xanax? I take .5 mg Xanax, 4 times a day, and I'm kinda scared to start this in case there's an interaction. My Dr prescribed 50 mg of metoprolol succ. Thank you so much for this video. It puts my mind at ease about taking it, but that's the only thing I'm worried about now.
@pharmerkel
@pharmerkel 7 месяцев назад
Hello! In general Xanax has no known interactions with beta blockers. However please always discuss these matters with your doctor if you have further concerns. I take Xanax every so often for flight anxiety and am on carvedilol twice daily, no issues for me other than making me a bit drowsy.

Thank you for watching! A receptor is a protein on/in a cell that receives signals to carry out their effect. There are tons of receptors in our bodies with many different functions but beta blockers work on blocking beta receptors which generally cause BP to increase when stimulated

Love your presence to this life-altering event Do you take beta blockers to bring/keep your heart rate to 60?? Asking because after I added natural supplements my heart rate is 57-63. I am an older 58 male with type B 4.6 cm dissection
@pharmerkel
@pharmerkel 10 месяцев назад
Thank you! After my dissection I started getting episodes of tachycardia where my heart rate would go up to 140-150s at rest. I was put on beta blockers mostly for that but also to reduce stress on my aorta. My resting heart rate even before dissection was always low in 50s and hasn’t changed much since on beta blockers

Welcome to Texas! Was your valve affected by your dissection? I have an aortic root aneurism of 4.8 and a dissection or tear is my biggest worry but I’m also bummed of having to have the valve replaced because of the aneurism deforming it.
@pharmerkel
@pharmerkel 11 месяцев назад
Yes! I had an aortic valve replacement only because of my dissection. My surgeon didn’t know if my valve would need to be replaced until I went under since my surgery was emergent. If your surgeon can save your valve that would be great but sometimes it’s not possible unfortunately

Mine is at 4.8 but since there’s no history of how fast it’s growing my doctor is following up at 6 months with an echo. He said once it gets past 5 he’ll recommend a surgeon. On another video I read a comment where the guy said he was getting the surgery done at 4.8 because he was planning a sailing trip. The surgeon responded that he’d never done a surgery on someone with less than 5 and wished him well.
