One question! I'm just getting into synthesis more and understanding harmonics etc -- ive been building up patches like this and I was making a trumpet and noticed when I draw out the harmonics of a trumpet (im using serum), it generated a pretty similar wavetable (a little less smooth, but generally the same harmonic information) as what you ended up with via the wave morph -- did you come about finding this discovery a similar way? what made you come up with the wave morph method vs drawing out the harmonics, I'm mostly curious about how you arrived at that step.
very good and simple! That is most of the things teached in pop&jazz conservatory Helsinki, Finland. I studied music technology and never did this connection between rhythm and harmonic series even mentioned. I bet they did not know. I learn that also only recently from YT video. Time and tempo relationship was taught but that was very important if a delay unit needs to be used with sync to a note lenght. No tap tempo so printed out column with quarternote lenght in milliseconds in tempos from 50 to 200 Bbm. The other theory stuff was teached just like in your video and in my opinion it was told in a simple way that should be assimilated by people urged to to learn this stuff pretty easily. Thanx!
Holy shit this formant, vocal bass is all the rage in Drum and Bass right now. You totally just helped me over a hurtle of how to create this sound with vital. Instant sub!!
American English is really annoying at times... ''Timber'' is not pronounced timber. Oh no no no... TAMBER. But, timber is however pronounced ''timber''. FFS. STOP THIS MADNESS
thank you so much for your video, I'm glad I met you here on youtube. In later versions Vital has perhaps removed the slider for the phase? Because I don't have it, I don't see it under the oscillator graph (V 1.0.7)
hi, I tried everything exact same until 1min 05 seconds, but the macro on wavewarp doesnt get activated/the sine doesnt change its form or move, any idea why it doesnt work ?
Well, i don't think it would be practical for anyone who... not stydied music for a decade :) Good example around three minute in. How anyone would understand anything about Lydian mode? Unless they already know what lydian mode is. Sure, you mentioned it, and even give a technical difinition, but noone would actually understand what did you said there and how to implement it outside of your example. At least no by watching this video alone, and it's kinda whole shtick, according to the title, right? Fretboard is cool tho, Great idea!
Great sound. Just one suggestion, the original Leslie had 2 (rotational) speeds with a lever mounted on the B3 that allowed the musician to switch between them during performances. Adding to the Chorus effect something that would emulate two rotational speeds would make a big difference in creating a closer emulation.
yeah I'm gonna need to re watch this video about 26 times because everything just flew right over my head. I play guitar and I know one scale: *THE* scale
Really interesting analysis, thank you! I like how you point out that the backbone doesn't have to be too straight, just consistent, with the example of the clave. And also how you explain the different kinds of swing, especially in Latin music! I'd like to add some things that are important from my experience/in my opinion: 1. Breathing, i. e. the ratio of deep and bright beats. You'll have a hard time creating groove with only the kick drum or only snare and hi-hats. You need the right balance between those. 2. Space. Not playing otherwise expected beats can for example emphasize then next played beat, or give room for other instruments, and most of all create dynamics. All in all, there are similar things to consider as in harmony, and I also feel that this should be recognized and taught much more: In harmony, you have consonance and dissonance, fulfilling expectations or withholding them, creating tension and relief. The same is essential for a satisfying groove. And you can achieve this in many ways. In harmony, you can modulate to a different key, in rhythm, you can modulate to a different time signature, even have several at once. There is so much to discover, I love it!
I was positive Neely had a video about this but can't find it. Anyway he's been through this and he has some other entertaining treatments of rhythm, like this: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qIfD7ZN5FYI.html
