So glad I came across this I’m going through the process of slowing down and actually practising, focusing on my timing, reading and coordination. I’m a drummer, and trying to build my confidence. This conversation is very encouraging for me. Thank you
Hey I had a question. I am trying to help younger students with head joint exercises. So for the middle you leave the end open and for low and high you leave it closed. Will leaving it open for the high note change things?
interesting...but I do not use bussing with out mouthpiece and I can't do it and I have no problem to play trumpet...I think bussing is a good for worm out ...
Hi, if you just "blow" into the trombone, you won't actually get any tone out of it. You will only hear some quiet wind-like noise. For trombone and other brass instruments (except saxophone), you create the tone by buzzing in the mouthpiece. You can up to some extent also change your tone only by buzzing in a different way, which is an important technique.
I can't believe this has zero comments 😭😭😭 This video literally let me hold an actual note within 10 minutes when i spent 2hrs yesterday baffed on how to breath 😅😅😅
Wow i couldn't hear you drawing a breath. I always pay attention to my breathing between notes or passages. Kind a loud, Not pleasant at all. I need to breath better.
I am a beginner learning to play a 1960s OLDS cornet. OLDS cornet sounds seem more trombone-like sound. Still having difficulty with correct embouchure. I get tired after a little practice and then air sound comes out. Lots of physical on lips, teeth, etc. Does this seem correct? and normal? Thanks, Mr. Angelo
Great question. It's important to slowly build up your chops over time. Our brass instructors typically suggest practicing just 1-2 minutes at first and slowly adding time. Just like weightlifting, it's important to practice regularly to build up the musculature in your mouth. Once you do that, you should have no problem creating a beautiful sound for longer periods of time!
Thank you for your feedback. We are working to develop technology that will help provide our content in other languages, and Spanish is at the top of the list :)

This is very helpful to me. I thank God there are people out there who have a heart to help others. It would probably be beneficial to watch the whole series. God bless you. 🙂
I'm glad you found this video helpful. Thank you 😊 And yes - watching the whole series will provide a more complete picture about beginning trombone technique.
I think this video would be ineffective in teaching the embouchure. It just simply doesn't say enough. All I really got was basically a raspberry with tight corners. No offense intended and certainly not saying this guy is a bad teacher, but this video would not really help a beginner.
We appreciate your input. If you're interested in submitting a video with your opinion about how embouchure should be taught, let me know so I can set you up with an Online Learning Project manager.
Unfortunately, I never got to choose percussion. I wasn’t given a choice because of my autism and my difficulty to focus in middle school. So I had to go with sax, not that I didn’t enjoy it. But I’m naturally better with drums. I really wish I was able to play percussion.

Why? Jerome is a highly accomplished trombone performer and educator, so unless you can elaborate on why his embouchure lesson is terrible, I suggest others do not pay attention to this comment. You can view a short list of Jerome's experience here: lessonsinyourhome.net/teacher/jerome-smith/
@@practicingmusician What has Jerome's CV got to do with his knowledge of embouchure? With the exception of "firm corners," every single other piece of advice in this video will set a beginner back by years; Jerome's demonstration of a functioning embouchure is nothing more than a "raspberry," which is not how humans play a brass instrument. No mention of the massive role the lower lip plays when setting an embouchure, either.
@@explodingsausage6576 Jerome is clearly qualified to teach trombone. If you're interested in submitting a video with your opinion about how embouchure should be taught, I will set you up with an Online Learning Project manager.
@@munchanitoThis video on embouchure is one in a series on making a sound. The next is articulation, then making a sound. They will play one after another, so feel free to watch the rest. If you press "Show more" in the description, you will see the 13 video playlist that this Embouchure lesson is in. If you're still having trouble, let us know.
