Elephant Sanctuary...amazing! Hohenwald as a place to come of age? Absolute shithole. I feel sorry for any kid not gifted athletically growing up there.
Hohenwald - I have at least 5 generations of family members and kin buried in the Swiss Cemetery. From my grandmothers grandmother Amanda Christian-who I was named after, -my grandmother Carmen Christian, my third cousin Bradley Christian who died before his 22 birthday-my heart still aches over him. Many others in my family tree are there at rest. My grandfather Otto Workman at Loveless. My mom and dad and 2nd cousin who I have called "Aunt Janis" since I could talk still live there now and other family members I love dearly and have precious sweet memories that carry me through most days. I have enjoyed swimming in the river, horseback riding, Pastor Drew at the former United Methodist Church where my great grandmother Myrtle Christian was named on a stained glass window. So beautiful. Blessings to anyone that is thinking of moving there to help build a community and grow in Nashville's back yard. I wish I would have moved to Columbia back when the Saturn plant an GM moved from Michigan, but alas I am in Florida for medical health reasons and cannot tolerate the cold. Best to Hohenwald, best to my family and friends that live there now. Beautiful. And eat at Junkyard dog-so yummy. Get your hair cut or styled at Janis' Beauty Boutique. <3

Hohenwald has declined over the years. No car dealerships anymore, no hospital, no all night markets, no bowling alley, no movie theater, etc. We now have a liquor store, Wal mart, and almost everyone commutes 30 miles to work. Hohenwald was booming in the 60's thru the 80's. The jobs left and the once booming economy is mostly retired persons and poor people. But, in it's favor, Hohenwald is a very safe town, not much crime, not very crowded, low cost of living, and decent elected officials. Hohenwald was started by the Swiss settlers in the late 1800's. Rich history and clean environment.
My step grandfather is the descendent of the grinder family that lived in the cabin that Meriwether Lewis died in and he said the story that was passed down through his family was that Meriwether Lewis was pacing and talking to himself and that he tried to come on to the woman living there and that her brother or husband one came home and shot Lewis twice for coming on to the woman, and they put him on a bed and he finally died the next morning, not to mention if he was going to commit suicide then he wouldn't have shot himself in the stomach first like he did after that he was shot in the head
I live in hohenwald and we have a big cattle ranch too in hohenwald because I was born and raised here and I don't plan to leave this beautiful place :)
Manny, you did a great job on this video for Hohenwald and Lewis County. You've come a long ways, and I expect you will go much further... it is a pleasure to have met you.
