I just completed this one using a slightly stretchy vinyl from Sallie Tomato. It’s going in my Lesson Learned circular file. I will try it again with another type of fabric.

I generally love Sallie Tomato’s tutorials. But I am wondering why even bother with this one. If all we’re going to do is refer to other tutorials, why not just list them on the website near the pattern? I was frustrated by the end of the tutorial, and I have never felt that way before. I know you have had other similar reactions, so I just want to say that I hope this won’t happen again. I don’t mean to dump on Sallie Tomato, but if we don’t tell you how we feel, how will you know?
Need help with main lining panels. Putting the lining face down on the bag front piece appears to put it at odds with the gusset lining. Better instruction on how to attach would be helpful. I’m the only one who doesn’t get it apparently, please help!

Having trouble attaching the contrasting gusset fabric across the zipper. The zipper appears to go to the bottom of the piece and I can’t sew through the metal zipper like you would a nylon zipper. Can you elaborate how this is accomplished.
Great question. We recommend a nylon zipper for all of our patterns. Sallie Tomato only sells nylon coil zippers. If you are using a metal zipper you are correct in not to stitch across the teeth. But rather begin and end the seam near or next to the teeth but not to sew over them. Hope this makes sense. If not please reach out to us at info@sallietomato.com.

Appreciate the tutorial however I don’t see pattern pieces for the lining and I can’t find anything on the pattern pieces giving instructions for cutting the lining. It would also be helpful to have a diagram for the layout of the pieces or at least instructions to cut long straps first. By the time I got to cutting the straps there wasn’t a long enough piece for straps.

You are an absolute life saver, I was screaming with frustration the other night as I could NOT get it threaded, it was impossible!! I would say though to cut the zip a bit bigger than what you need in case there is a slight misalignment from this method of threading.
