Lillian… I’ve been in the automobile repair and parts industry since 1994. I’ve never heard of a timing chain needing any type of “service”. Typically it’s timing belts that need to be changed every 60,000 miles. I’m leaving this comment because that concerned me and I’d hate to think someone was trying to take advantage of you for being a responsible car owner. Please, PLEASE verify the need of that service with someone other than the dealership or with the dealership if it’s coming from a privately owned shop. Many manufacturers switched from timing belts to timing chains because of the reliability of a chain over a belt for the long haul. A timing belt service is very expensive and many people weren’t properly servicing their vehicles because of the expense. You can start with Google to see if your car has a belt or chain. I’m sorry for leaving this as my comment, but the goal is to save money, right? 😉
