I'm Taryn, and welcome to CalicoRadio Knits! This channel dedicated to bringing you free patterns, tutorials and fun fiber videos. Thanks for visiting and happy knitting and crocheting!
I definitely had the same struggle with both! I’m left-handed so the right hand is a little wonky, and purling is always not as natural as knitting for me. I don’t know if this would help, but I’d recommend using wooden needles because they’re not as slippery and a thinner yarn, so your hands don’t have to make big movements. Good luck! ☺️
Yum, that bagel and cream cheese looked tantalizing. Love how creative you were with the shirt pocket; great utilization. The sweater turned out to be spectacular, i especially like the white detail work, very classy. My Mother was an expert knitter, making all sorts of beautiful things I still wear and cherish today. I am an embroiderer, have tried knitting but am no good at it, however, I enjoy watching your videos here and am a Mac addict, so I anxiously await those videos as well. Hope you're enjoying Dublin!
Thank you, Elizabeth! That’s so wonderful that you still have things your mother made for you that you can use and cherish today. I love how knits or any kind of handmade piece can become an heirloom that’s kept for a lifetime. I still have dresses my grandmother made me when I was a kid, and I’m so thankful my parents kept them after I grew out of them. I have some ideas for Mac sweaters I want to make this fall, so he’ll definitely be appearing on this channel more as well ☺️
@@calicoradio_knits Thank you! My Mother sewed and knitted clothes for my Barbie and Midge dolls; one tiny little short-sleeved knitted sweater stands out in my mind. She even sewed in snaps at the shoulder opening on one side to make it easier to dress the doll. This was pre-Velcro days!
I actually got it at a secondhand shop several years ago, but the tag says it’s from B.Young! The brand Napapijri makes similar clothing with the front pocket as well🙂
This video just made me want to be you! You are so peaceful :) I definitely had doubts when you frogged the first sweater, but the final one is just beautiful! <3
I thought maybe you were still trying to use up all your wool until I read the description. Two things I noticed...Mac let you use his music and the bus looked pretty clean. Beautiful sweater!
Thanks, Nancy! Yeah, this bus ride was during that month I tried to bust my stash, but it ended up taking a few weeks longer than planned😄 Oh yes, true! Mac and I have similar taste 😉
Thanks, Elizabeth! 🙂 I’ve thought about maybe selling Mac-style sweaters, but I haven’t pursued it because dogs are such different shapes and sizes - it’d probably be hard to do without the dog being able to try it on as I work on it. 🤔 I may do little, knitted Mac ornaments around Christmas time though 😉
This is so lovely! I have the same yarn, just one skein, and I have been trying to figure out what to make with it. I love the way this turned out, but I am not sure how to adjust the pattern for a different gauge. Do you suggest a specific technique or videos that could help me with this step?
Thanks, Sarah! I haven’t used a specific technique or video I could recommend unfortunately - It’s mostly me tinkering around with my middle school algebra skills 😅 But I’d recommend looking into videos from Very Pink Knits, Nimble Needles and Ashley Lillis. I believe they all have videos on this topic and are great at explaining knitting techniques 🙂 I also included some notes on how I graded the pattern in my comments above to @lisagreenb1 in case you’re interested. 🙂
There’s plenty of recommendations I could make to yarny friends coming to Dublin. Definitely check out this is knit and Winnie’s (another yarn shop). There’s also a bunch of knitting groups for the area both in person and online
Wow I stumbled on your channel a few months ago (the running for a yarn video) but I didn’t realize you’re also testing for the cable campus sweater! Excited to see your version of the piece😊
Ah that’s cool! I really loved how yours turned out - The blue/white color combo is so classy. 🙂 I’m stuck a bit on sleeve island, but I’m hoping to have it down by next week!
The yarn shop this is knit in Dublin is lovely. They are super helpful and have a nice selection of yarn especially Irish owned brands. Also vibes and scribes in cork is a must visit if you are ever near cork! I try to order from either of those if they have what I need because an post (the Irish postal service) is pretty cheap and quick but if they don’t have what I need or it isn’t in my budget I like to order from hobbi or love craft but both can take a while to arrive. Best of luck on your move!
Thank you so much for the recommendations! I stumbled upon Spring Wools the other day but have yet to check out yarn shops otherwise. Definitely looking forward to it ☺️
Hello! The micro granny square top doesn’t have a pattern, but Shishi.fbr has a video on Instagram that pretty clearly shows how to make the larger granny square tops🙂 instagram.com/reel/C5YP4zStLhn/?igsh=MTJjenFoanAyeW9wMA==
Hi. I like your style girl. Soon done watching all your work on RU-vid, it is not enough, want more. Best regards from a Swedish jazz musician and knitter.
I love it when Mac looks at the camera with his big eyes, haha. Also, if I lived in Montreal I'd be so happy to see that bin in a thrift store, it's perfect for a scrap project!
I’m so happy to hear that honestly because I was wondering if people would find this kind of rude or useless that I donated so many little scrappy bits 😅
Hi George Ann, I don’t have a pattern for the micro granny square top unfortunately, but the tops that are made with the larger granny squares are inspired by a top from Shishi.fbr on Instagram. She has a video that shows pretty clearly how to make them🙂 instagram.com/reel/C5YP4zStLhn/?igsh=MTJjenFoanAyeW9wMA==
Nice! Yeah, it takes some time/focus to whittle things down - I think having some kind of deadline/reward helps - I was thinking about all the European yarns I would have access to once we moved, so I was v modified to clear things out 😄
Greetings from Boston! Lucy (Dachshund/Yorkie) and I wish you the very best on your new adventures in Dublin!! And we look forward to seeing Mac in his new home. And to your knitting escapades in Ireland! Cheers!!
Mac flew in the cabin under the seat in front of me 🙂 We had to get some paperwork from our vet and some stamps from the Canadian government, but all worked out well!
