*_Fast forward to Sept. 2023..._* *Stacy Davis-Gates is Illinois’ most prominent & rabid opponent of school choice and all of which she labels racist or worse....* *She sends one of her kids to to Chicago’s De La Salle Institute, a private, Catholic high school.* 🤣🤣🤣
I'm an Independent Latino from Chicago, I SUPPORT Union EXPECT Chicago Teacher Union because people vote for these Clowns like Jesse Sharkey (Multi- millionaire Gold Digger)....No Bueno.
Ohhhh lookie! A video from the marxist that has the comments still on! Go fuck yourselves and your interpretive dance offs. Cill yourselves..useless brainwashing shit heads..cancel me! Hurry silence me!😂😘
The more people help others in their jobs, the less they get paid and are respected by society. Great Job on the union to wake people up to reality of working life!
Rahm Emmanuel is a Wall Street crook his M.O just like the GOP is to illegally underfund, create a failing system than scream that privatization-- charters are the answer. Charters lack oversight and constantly overcharge districts with leasing fees and other hidden fees
yea but charter schools dont accept kids with disabilities n he believes they should b homed school n not out in public. rahm Emmanuel doesnt care about the kids cuz his kids r in private schools. he will always b about money but some wanted him in saying that he was good n no all he does is cause pain n suffering.
+MYacono - Illegally underfund? HA! Chicago has the highest taxes in the country. Just how much do you want to crush the middle class with never-ending tax hikes?
cdw070 in NJ there was a court decision setting up special "Abbott" districts that get additional funding from the state. Christie ignored the law and the formula and cut over 242 million in 5 years just from my town. Many schools look like the segregated schools of pre-Brown v Board of Ed. Yet Christie has created a record amount of corporate welfare, given more money in fees to his Wall street cronies then the previous 6 administrations combined, let Verizon steal 15 billion over 20 years for promised upgrades they never delivered on and then let them off the hook and allowed Pearson to divert hundreds of millions of school budget into their pockets instead of before and after school programs for the disastrous PARCC test. All the while he has allowed Charter schools to proliferate which has milked the taxpayers overcharging fr "management and leasing fees" . It is not a question of taxes its about not diverting funds to its proper places and criminally misusing funds to divert to political cronies like PEARSON and KIPP and I recommend you google "Pink hulahoop scandal"
I dont know why u just cant take what they give u. so u would rather deprive the kids of there education cuz u fight over money. how dumb is that. im a school bus driver for a company n that means i lose my job until u come to a decision. when i was school we didnt have to worry about this shit until u came into office. so do urself a favor GROW UP FOR ONE, DO UR JOB FOR TWO N JUST ACCEPT WHAT THEY GIVE U. Have a good day.
Buffalo teachers in NY stand in solidarity with the CTU! We're facing similar acts of injustice towards our students in our poor communities. We must stand up and fight corporate agendas seeking to destroy public education not only in Chicago and Buffalo but across our country. A UNION UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!
CTU making the middle class poor because they just care about getting bigger paycheck instead being the true public worker and doing it for their country, like the troops that serve in our military.
+taledarkside, did you even bother to actually listen to the reasons why they're rejecting the offer? Do you honestly think a teacher Union fighting for proper funding for their decimated schools and students will get rich off of a new contract? Making the "middle class poor?" Any person with an inch of common sense sees that this is not the case. Do you know how many school districts across this country, particularly in urban communities, break federal and state laws everyday by not providing required services for students with disabilities and English language learners? The large corporations aka the 1% billionaires want to destroy public education and destroy unions in this country. Teachers fight for their students and their schools because they actually care about society. Do they fight for other things too such as pay raises? Of course they do because they have a lot of responsibility in their jobs and don't get the recognition, albeit financially and professionally, they deserve. When did teachers turn into scapegoats for societal failures? I sincerely hope you look into the real trouble makers who are "making the middle class poor;" you're sniffing up the wrong tree if you think it's public school teachers.
+taledarkside Prove it? Can you prove that a teacher's union in a district that serves predominantly minority and poverty stricken students is "making the middle class poor?" Let me get this straight: you have proof that teachers who teach in minority communities and who make less money than their suburban upper class counterparts are somehow eradicating the middle class? Would love to see any article or data that can prove this irrational idea. Do you realize public schools in the United States have been underfunded for years? Do you think that when a teacher's union rejects a contract offer that it's solely because of how much the teachers are getting paid? Who do you think sticks up for students by fighting for smaller class sizes, proper funding and services for students with disabilities, English language learners, and both enrichment and assistance programs among other things? I can provide data upon data and educational article upon educational article that shows the decline in funding for public schools, especially ones who serve minority and lower class communities. Here are a few articles to clear up your ignorance. Feel free to read them and ask questions if you have them. I urge you to reach out and find out the true reasons why we are being told that public schools are failing. Try google searching "corporate reform agenda in public education." www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/more-40-low-income-schools-dont-get-fair-share-state-and-local-funds-department-education-research-finds truth-out.org/archive/component/k2/item/84074:special-education-funding-or-lack-thereof-hurting-school-districts www.cbpp.org/research/most-states-funding-schools-less-than-before-the-recession www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2012/11/25/how-grossly-underfunded-are-public-schools/ www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/09/public-school-funding-and-the-role-of-race/408085/
Do CTU members realize how dire their pension situation is? Do they realize that the city and union leaders are going to leave pensioners out in the cold when they go to retire and there's no money left to pay pensions? Read the latest credit downgrade by Moodys: www.moodys.com/research/Moodys-downgrades-Chicago-Board-of-Education-ILs-GO-to-B2--PR_903094214 This is no longer a question of negotiation. This a question of solvency and the simple math it takes to realize that the day of reckoning is rapidly approaching.
Until teachers of Chicago see themselves more as teachers of CPS instead of union members of CTU and fire this woman, they will never be respected by the outside world. They do not care about students they hide behind.
Thank you CTU for all you do!!! As a teacher at CPS, I am so proud of our union and all the work you do to empower and raise consciousness. This was a great idea to have a mass video message and I recommend to continue doing that. Also, CTU podcast might be another avenue to reach out to members, parents, and community.
For a teacher, that woman in the beginning sure spoke unintelligibly. I couldn't tell if it was /blacklivesmatter, /policebrutality, or /guncontrol. I still can't without reading the description.
i want to that school during the opt out isat but the students that didn't take the test just sat in a classroom and talked. they didn't teach these students. how are you suppose help a Child if you don't know what they are struggling. State testing is important
Administration (school leaders and politicians) should support school staff, they are the ones who deal with the students and parents directly, not from Chicago but from my youthful experiences, teachers cut down on violence because things happening outside of school comes to the bldg and vise versa and not only taught those students, but in effect were motivational speakers and counselors of the parents
LaSalle Street' tax drive out more jobs & business so rich teachers union won't have to pay their way, Just like Detroit never learn from mistakes or credit rating Public schools 53% literacy prove unqualified teachers
Teachers need tenure, because they need to be able to be honest at the Parent -Teacher Conferences. They need to be free to tell parents that their child has a short-attention span, is lazy, can't sit still, talks non-stop, and a bully. They need to be free to give students the correct grade, regardless of being pressured by the school's football coach! The teacher should be free to give the school's star quarterback a failing grade, even if that makes him ineligible to play at the State Championship!
