She is one of the best American photographers. I remember the impact her pictures had on me when I first saw them over 40 years ago. I always thought that the boy with the toy grenade suffered from cerebral palsy or a similar illness but apparently he didn't.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! 😊 I completely agree-Diane Arbus truly is one of the best American photographers. Her work leaves such a lasting impression, and it’s amazing how images like the boy with the toy grenade can make us think so deeply. It's interesting you mentioned cerebral palsy; I also thought there was a backstory like that, but learning the real context adds a whole new layer to the photo. Hope you have a great day! 🌟 Stay tuned for more content, and feel free to share the channel with anyone you think might enjoy it. 🙌

She emphasized with her subject matter so much that it enveloped her. This is a fine line with artists that many succumb to, much to our loss, but it is really their choice, not ours.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! 😊 I completely agree-Diane Arbus truly had a deep connection with her subjects, and it’s fascinating how that connection shaped her work. It's definitely a fine line for artists, and like you said, it ultimately becomes their choice. I appreciate you sharing your insights, and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Stay tuned for more content coming soon, and feel free to share with anyone you think might find it interesting. Have an amazing day! 😄👋
Saw REVELATIONS at The Met NYC 2005. When one looks at The Boy With The Grenade if zooming into the detail of his button down shirt, one will find military insignia which adds further depth and intrigue.
Thank you so much for sharing that! 😊 I didn’t know about the military insignia detail on the boy’s shirt in that photo-what an interesting observation! It definitely adds another layer to Diane Arbus' work and the way she captured her subjects. I hope you’re having a great day! Stay tuned for more content, and feel free to share with anyone who might enjoy or find this useful! 🙌✨

I was able to attend an exhibition of her work in Los Angeles some years ago. Definitely recall seeing the comparison between her photo of the twins and the Kubrick re-creation for THE SHINING.
All his videos are the result of his effort, knowledge and determination to seriously compile a worthy, deeply reflective and humanly committed work. I would like to thank him for his commitment to generating new perspectives on Art and Photography.

Most of his subjects are smiling and/or look happy. He's smiling in the photos of him. Is he the ultimate feel-good photographer? He was a great photographer. When will you do a video on Joel-Peter Witkin?
Hey, thanks for your comment and the suggestion! 🖤 It’s true that Joel-Peter Witkin has a very unique and provocative style, but personally, I don’t connect much with that type of photography. His work can be quite intense for some viewers, and due to RU-vid's policies, I have to be mindful of the content I upload to ensure it meets the platform's guidelines. 🙏 I love exploring photographers with different visions, and while I may not cover Witkin’s work, I’ll be sharing more videos on other amazing artists that I think you’ll enjoy. Thanks for your interest and for being part of the channel’s community!

Thank you so much for sharing! 😊 I completely agree-Robert Doisneau's philosophy about photography is just as inspiring as his beautiful images. His way of seeing the world really touches the heart. Outstanding! One of my all time favorite photographers. I just bought one of his large photo books two weeks ago and can’t stop looking at. Excellent video and research.

During my 20 and 30's, I grew up subscribing to Popular Photography, American Photographer, and one other who's name eludes at the moment. But, Jay Maisel's name was often found in this issues. He was legendary back then as well as today. I'm still fascinated with his subject matter which continues to intrigue me today as much as yesterday. In this video I saw photos which I have never seen before. Not to mention facts about his life which I had not read which goes to show how Joel Ulises is studies and researches his subjects before committing his work to video for us all to see. For this I'm so, grateful. Thank you, Joel Ulises for all your time. God Bless you. Roger

It is said to become an "expert" requires the investment of at least 10,000 hours. Sebastião Salgado has spent a lifetime - his oeuvre an organic synthesis of grace, vision, craft and art. His photography is never "of," but always "about" the subject. This was really well done, Sir.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! 🙏 Sebastião Salgado's dedication and passion for his craft are truly inspiring, and it's amazing to see how his work resonates with people. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and picked up on those deeper elements in his photography. 📸 Wishing you a great day! Stay tuned for more content, and feel free to share it with anyone who might find it useful. 😊

There was a Man Ray gallery show in S.F. about oh 13 years ago or so that I caught..not just photos but objects. I had to go. He was the first photographer I learned about when I was around 12. Which is 1962.
My dad was at the Focus Gallery in San Francisco. He came down the stairs and there was an elderly woman on the sidewalk. She called out to him "Young man! Can you give me a ride?" It was Imogen. He drove her home.
I’m sure she made a comment on the photographer and the work being shown. As in “young man, stop wasting your time…” while it was her work being shown…
I love Ms.Cunningham's work. Her work had a huge influence on me me when I was in my young teens in the early seventies. She was an astounding photographer and remains an important figure to the medium of photography. Thanks Joel!
"I don't love the world. I don't like a lot of people in it, just a few." Yeah. Breathing in the world of today is a little like being drawn to the magic of classical music while being raised in a house full of TV wrestling fans.
