It's not the truth that matters, we all know the man (I've forgot his name) would never get to see his home nor his crewmates again, just be with the spider-ish creature for all eternity, under the face of a woman he once knew.
I will never break the silence = you will always be a monster. The paradox of our circumstances. One meets their destiny on the road they take to avoid it. Heartbreaking as this song is, it's an inevitable reality. You are what you are. Give all, take all. Live as you are, embrace the chaos.
Has anyone thought that this might be our reality? That we are nothing more than a resource for energy harvesting in a giant matrix floating in the emptiness and there is another entity of higher intelligence that creates a fake world for each one of us according to our desires, fears, needs ?
This episode was so hauntingly beautiful and depressing, that alien who's lived for who knows how long, lonely and starving for any form of love, simulating these experiences for the lost souls so it can interact lovingly with them while (in a twisted matrix sort of way) protecting them from the pain of reality. And to then reveal the truth, and be rejected for it, heartbreaking 💔 This Episode. The Very Pulse of The Machine. Jibaro. Pop Squad. Absolute masterpieces ❤️ Mason's Rats was Comedy Gold too!😂☠️
I'm 67 and love Science fiction. I'm absolutely blown away by the psychological complexity, narrative perfection and beauty of this 'short'. And the music and lyrics! There are indeed modern classics! Worthy of awe. Thank you!
@michaelholland5774 Wow! It seems like you have long journey into the sci-fi universe. Can you recommend your MOST favourite sci-fi books? I am currently reading Greg Igan 'Distress' - it is so complex to me but soooo interesting. It also blows my mind how such authors could predict tech advances which appear to be reality nowadays. So I would really appreciate recommendations! Thank you!
Hahaha that's sums it up pretty well. The nitty-gritty of it all would probably dilute the substance that makes this evoke so many emotions that we each experience based on what we assume to be happening. Horror for some, sadness for others but mysterious to all.
This is really creepy but my favorite episode in LD&R even after Volume 3 came out already. The story still haunting me though it's been years since I watched this episode. Felt extremely sad for Tom :(
Could it be possible that if the creature was able to read minds,it knew where the food rations were on the ship, it used the food on board of the ships to feed the lost people and itself until the food ran out? It kept them in a dream to let them die peacefully.
I just understood the symbolic meaning of having a statue of the Virgin Mary cradling baby Jesus in its arms floating around, when the red lights are flashing: something that the camera seems to give a huge amount of screentime given how short the episode is. If there was ever any doubt in my mind to whether Greta's intentions were benevolent or malevolent, there is no more. The story all but gives you the answer, so you cannot escape facing the cosmic-level tragedy of it's message by telling yourself she is just a predatorial abomination, and then use that to look the other way. This story, about despair and hopelessness, compassion, loneliness and the desire of connection, is amongst the most powerful pieces of art I've ever had the chance to experience.
The sad thing is that after she make him sleep again, when Greta come and see him, you can see her face like she is about to cry. Thats because she wanted to make their dead in a good way because there was nothing she can do for them but she saw how he afraid of her. So she felt heartbroken.
2:36 it can be seen that the tears will come out of those eyes very soon, and they are from pain, the feeling is so strong that it even manifests itself in the avatar that she uses in the simulation for Tom, uff what sadness it gives, from that gaze of pain it can be deduced that she lives that feeling in the same way as we do, so it can be said that she has an emotional intelligence that rivals ours, which makes "Greta" even more impressive and interesting than she seems. Note:put it in speed 0.25.
