I removed my air filter which looked to be the original fram type air filter. There definately was some kind of dried adhesive holding the metal plate securely to the air filter. I think this part is critical. Without this when you're putting the plastic shroud over the air filter and metal plate, the air filter may move out of place. Would love to know what that adhesive is but none of these how to videos mention it.

If you want louder sound you should change the header/ bendpipe to a free flow one called c bendpipe.

That looks like a chromed piece of plumbing pipe.. Sounds nice though.. Did you change the header pipe too.. I understand the OEM header pipe is double skinned and really restrictive..

I agree, but it's loads better than the original pipe! I didn't change the header pipe, but I did fit an O2 eliminator later. It runs really well.

I own a 2018 Classic 500 and about to remove the silencer but I wanted to know if the open exhaust affects in any way the performance? have you noticed any issue with the O2 sensor when starting the motorcycle? I was told that the open exhaust could let air freely go to the O2 sensor making the motorcycle to run too lean and the engine could run too hot @Adam Speakman - by the way the bike sounds great!
@adamspeakman7364
@adamspeakman7364 2 года назад
I have to admit I didn't notice any change in performance after fitting the free flow pipe. I have also removed the o2 sensor, changed the spark plug to iridium and put in a K&N air filter. So my Enfield runs really nicely and to me, sounds awesome! I hated the original silencer, it sounded awful, was massive and weighed a ton! Btw, the pipe I put on costs about £35, so it's worth doing, even if you change your mind after!
@Vojta92
@Vojta92 2 года назад
It does make.the bike run lean, check the spark plug sometimes. O2 sensor is just a narrowband type so it functions only in constant conditions (idling for example). So when usually riding and changing throttle position the injection is controled only by maps. When you change anything enabling more air to get into intake (that includes changing exhaust) there is no sensor to find out there is extra amount of air in the cylinder. The bike will run but it will sometimes bang into exhaust and run hot. I recommend to get booster plug which compesate this issue a bit, but because these bikes run on a leaner side notoriously due to emmision standarts dont expect anything superb.

Might sound like a daft question but how tall are you please?
@adamspeakman7364
@adamspeakman7364 2 года назад
Hi, I'm 6 foot tall. I understand your question. When I see myself on the bike, it does look a bit small. However, it's really comfortable and feels right when I'm sat on it. Don't forget it's a vintage design, and bikes were smaller back then. So for me, it's era correct, and at the end of the day, it's a real joy to ride

@@adamspeakman7364 Thanks for reply...I've been looking at these bikes for a while now, but at 6ft 5 the worry is the comfort of them, I've accepted that in the 35 years I've been riding I'm going to look too big, but if the comfort is there I don't care. Love the bike and the noise ;)

Hey, I'm 6ft tall. When I see a photo or video of me on the bike, I agree, it looks small. But honestly, when I'm riding it, it feels a perfect size, very comfortable! It may be because with this bike, you sit on top of the bike, whereas with some other bikes, you feel like you sit in the bike. I love riding it anyway, just wish we had longer summers in the uk!

lol.....how can you be sure the filter is still inline with the steel plate???....did you notice your filter was dirtier on the inside then the out side ?.....that's because your filter is not and air tight seal to the round plate and your engine it sucking unfiltered air..... your intake must be full of crud by now...... correct procedure is to use a small amount of an adhesive where the filter meets the round plate to lock it in place 1st.... then once set install the filter and air box cover. i have to pry mine apart and scrape the foam off the steel plate before replacing a new filter and that's the way it comes from the factory...granted some are stuck better then others from new but its something that should of been picked at when the dealers are doing the pre delivery service.... /

My way of thinking.. If the bike is breathing better and exhausting better then the engine wont be working so hard, so by changing the header pipe, muffler and air filter then engine should work less and increase the fuel economy... But then on the other hand.. How much are all the parts vs the amount of increase in fuel economy.. Im getting 33km/ltr on the OEM pipe/muffler and air filter.. I too have the RE C500 Desert Storm.. BTW.. I love my rattly bike...
