I think, the thing that people don't understand, people who say he's the easiest boss, I'm talking about the people whose idea of fighting Deerclops is to spawn him in with commands, is that the circumstances around his entrance account for more than half the challenge of fighting him. It's day 30. You've been sitting at the computer for literally four hours straight. It's the middle of Winter, and everybody's been turtling at the base. Even with the resident Wendy harvesting and processing spiders full time, it's just barely enough to keep the three other party members fed. Each of them has died to stupid stuff multiple times by this point, and revival sickness is coming on strong. You've just survived a massive hound attack that's drained the last of your supplies, and left everyone bruised and confused. Now it's the middle of the night, and out of absolute nowhere, this idiot shows up and absolutely wrecks the sole meagre bits of infrastructure hitherto keeping you alive. If you wanna fight him, it's your choice whether to stay within the dwindling circle of the campfire where he can reach you, or run aimlessly into the night, where you'll probably fall victim to freezing or Charlie. I'd honestly rather fight Bee Queen.
I mean yeah but deerclops was made by the devs to be the threshold guardian - I’d say if you struggle to prepare or think on your feet, everything beyond winter is a tough spot for players unwilling to learn from mistakes. Bee Queen is abusable, via catapults, 0 AOE attacks and only swarming minions that can be dealt with via panflute or even fire. Good ol’ Deerclops smashes contraptions, has some of the top insanity auras of the game and additionally makes you cold & during christmas has a laser attack. I’d say it’s the perfect guardian of the game akin to Wall of Flesh in terraria. You have to combat the cold and trade clothing for armour, combat the low sanity as well as fight far from distractions or buildings. Did I mention Deerclops can freeze all NPCs? Unlike Bearger being defeated by tree guards whilst you’re afk, Deerclops can and will outlast opponents you bring to fight them! I just think trial and error is the best weapon you can bring and sure rollbacks can help, but having the foresight to recognise the exhale warning (which I believe mimics hound waves with 3 warnings) and to quickly deal with everything at once proves you’re a hardened survivor ready for the rest of the nightmares Klei has in store! Plus Bee Queens honey trail sucks so bad 😢 2 sticky 4 me
Left 4 Dead 2 is a horror game, but the source of this horror comes not from surroundings - it actually comes from survivors/players... (because of their possibilities)
Vulpes is disgusted because the people didn’t try to fight when they had the numbers. The Courier is disgusted because Vulpes lost to them despite having the numbers. They are not the same.
